Bill S. Same here I know many KIDS who drive these thing and they never overheat. People RIP on the b58 platform and it is fairly robust especially for a bmw. Time will tell if there a king of reliability but these criticisms sound like he’s generalizing BMWs. I know 2 people pushing over 570 and they haven’t had one issue, one has 86k miles on it rn

I’m trying to sum up what I just spent 10 minutes listening to and what I got out of it is the B58 is too new (fact check was out on 2016 models so well before 2019). Because it’s so new I’ve never put my hands on one but BMW has a history of this that and the other thing so you could be in for a rough ride but we just don’t know yet. Awesome...
BMW has a history of problems going back for decades (timing belts popping on the M20, profile gaskets on M42, weak cooling parts on M52 and M54, emissions parts failures on the M57, leaky everything on the N62.). I’m limiting the list to cars with engines that I’ve owned and got my hands dirty on. Most of these issues started popping up fairly early on and were well documented on the forums or the Mike Miller’s of the world while you could still buy a new one. The B58 is now on its fifth year of production and from what I’m seeing online there is nothing that identifies a common trend for a major issue on this engine to date. Nothing. On the G30 forum the biggest recent complaint was that the 2021 configurator wasn’t live in July and the male Karen’s of the world couldn’t build a car they were eager to lease. Compare that to early years of the N54 and US M57.
I was hoping this ten minute video would have a objective repair data, but it’s really click bait.

Coolant loss is common on all vehicle makes and models, I work as a honda tech for 9yrs now and 80% of the cars we do have low to empty coolant in reservoir that had to be top off. For 3 yrs now my B58(M240i) been damn reliable being on stage 2 410whp racing a hell lot every other weekend with zero issue. Look this is overblown. The radiator cap o-rings is a problem overtime but so is improper flush-fill of coolant at the assembly plant and service centers causing air gaps in the line which overtime makes it look like its drinking coolant. Sometimes the coolant tank under pressure developes leaks as well. The VANOS valves are redesigned and largely run by two magnetic actuators near the rear of the engine and is reachable. Oil filter disintegration usually happens because the mechanic is in a rush and yanks the filter out since its on an awkward angle.. its user-error and the fact people run too high on oil change intervals (BMW fault on interval recommendations). The only thing that is a potential problem is the gaskets and the expensive valve cover. THAT I am afraid of but that is a problem for any BMW not just the B58. Surprise: the B58 is a commendable reliable engine from BMW. It really is a gem.

      Many of them
The ones that had issues was related to not enough fuel.
      Early testers
      Hpfp stage 2 is required
Safe zone on stock block is 600 hp with proper fueling and not relaying on meth as fuel.
Piston rings is the weak point of the engine

Coolant leaks are just the cap, or somebody messed up and punctured the lines. Don’t think this guys knows much about B58 at all. I drive a B58 and I mod it and maintain it myself. None of the problems he mentioned are really an issue. The valve cover thing you can easily just replace the PCV diaphragm for about 100 bucks, easy fix. The oil filter thing is not common at all. The B58 engine was thoroughly tested by Toyota engineers, and if you watch Savagegeese’s channel, they interviewed Toyota, and they said this engine passed Toyota’s rigorous testing reliably. All of these “major problems” are plain bloated out of proportion, cuz it’s a BMW.
