The 80's. The era that you needed to be TALENTED to make it. UNLIKE today.
Back when they wrote songs about their life experiences.
This song was released in 1991
The song was written by Bach about his friend Steven Adler, the drummer in Guns N Roses who had such a bad heroin addiction that he was fired from the band, and while they went on to be one of the biggest bands in the world his life spiraled downwards, to the point that five years after this song he had a drug related stroke that has left him with partial facial paralysis ever since.
Bach wrote the words but the band wrote their own arrangements for each of their instruments.
@@randykelley6826 I know that. But I am specifically talking about the lyrics. Bach doesn't write music or play any instrument.
Popcorn Adler was in GNR during the height of their popularity so idk what "went on to become" as if Guns N Roses made more than one album worth ever mentioning after Appetite For Destruction. Nobody was listening to that shit by the time they had to hire Buckethead so an actual musician would be involved with the process again at some point lol
@@neilpatrickhairless Yes they were successful with Appetite, but the Illusions cemented them as one of the biggest bands in the world, and Adler appeared on one song.
The stroke he had was due to cocaine use.
Sebastian Bach was the total package you wanted in a lead singer.
Gilmore Girls is the best show ever fite me
He was also a massive pain in the ass to deal with. So that makes him truly the complete lead singer package. 😁
Agreed, but for the tragic inability to control his temper. It kills me every time I think of it. He was SO good...should have been a legend.
Unless he’s on broadway.
@@alanschneider419 He is though
Another amazing song by Skid Row, from the same album is “ In A Darkened Room”
Actually the entire Slave To The Grind album is amazing
Absolument et i remember you également sauf que c'est pas le même album mais c'est une chanson magnifique
Saddest song ever written.
I second this.
I haven’t heard that song/album in years. I’m gonna listen to it now. Thanks for suggesting it.
I agree so much I named my first born Sebastian and if I could take one album to an island, it would be slave to the grind, I can’t skip any songs on that album 💿 it’s truly amazing 🤩
Now you know why 80's-90's hair metal is a benchmark.
Skid Row were always too good to really be lumped in with that scene. Same with W.A.S.P.
@@RolandDeschain1They really did stand out from the crowed with their music, but the time frame is what I'm referring to. Did see Skid Row live in 92 Pantera opened for them @ Mesa amphitheater. If you listen to Skid Row B-side's our selves EP Delivering the goods live with Rob Halford, I was at that show.
@@DRAONWEEDNice. My first ever concert was Pantera in '94 on the 'Far Beyond Driven' tour.
That's my heavy metal bragging rights. 😁
@@RolandDeschain1Awesome bragging rights indeed, Me Seen em 3 times 91-92-94. Out of the 40+ concerts I had attended. Pantera was one of the few bands I've seen live I can truly say sounded WAY better live. Most bands were great live, Pantera was on a whole other level.
This album was Not Exactly Hair Metal
Sebastian's voice on that album is almost supernatural.
There's three masterpiece ballads on that record along with this, the other two being 'In A Darkened Room' and 'Quicksand Jesus'. Both show Bas at the absolute top of his game.
It's always funny to see someone's first experience with a vocalist like Bach.
Sebastian Bach was a beast. Raw power mixed with a buttery smoothness that is truly amazing. The man was a Rock God...!!!!
He still is , listen to his new releases.😁
Quick sand Jesus must be next Skidrow video, boys got range, dude was on Broadway for awhile as well.
Totaliy agree
I saw him when he did Phantom of the Opera (EDIT: Jekyll and Hyde, my mistake). Paul Stanley was there in the audience. What a great performance.
Jekyll and hydet
Shot Baz is still making girls wet in 2024 she’s sold on him she’s getting wet just hearing him
@@michaelkrivak5218 You're right! 24 years is a long time ago, got them mixed up!
One of the greatest vocalists of the last 30-40 years. "Horse" is slang for heroin. "The horse stampedes and rages in the name of desperation" refers to the addiction calling to the addict when they try to go clean and them giving into the addiction when times get tough.
Sebastian blew his voice out recording this song, and to me it's the most emotionally charged vocal performance in heavy metal history. It's a true masterpiece.
Link?
@@OJA1965He actually wrote about it in his book! He said he pushed his voice too far on Wasted Time. He talked about his vocal troubles on the Slave to the Grind album in general. It’s a fantastic book!
@@antonlarter9699 Thanks. I don't remember even though I read the book. Actually, Sebastian read it to me. 😆 I highly recommend the audio book. In fact, it's almost mandatory. 🤣
@@OJA1965 I HAVE TO hear the audio book!!!
@@antonlarter9699 Absolutely! Rob Halford's was excellent too, but he doesn't have that Sebastian Bach perpetual 18 year old thing going. He even laughs at his own jokes and shit. A must hear.
Today's music will NEVER reach this level of raw emotion. Mumble, soundcloud rap? No chance. It'll all be forgotten in 2 years. Skid Row will be remember for decades.
@rayactions the closet you’re going to to this type of rock is from a band called TheWarning!!!!
Great comment
And the only argument people have to that is "boomer"
One of the most under rated songs of the era
I always love hearing folks react to his vocals early on in the song and are blown away by them. I just sit here thinking..."Just wait! The end is coming!!"
despite his troubling personality, I guess we can all agree that his voice is truly insane. One in a million I would say
He does have a troubling personality. Too bad.
He may have been arrogant, but there was a reason for that
Best son
It’s clear she’s super young that’s why the &0s rule honey 🤘🤘🤘
One of the biggest crimes ever commited was that Sebastian Bach and Skid Row didn't carry on.
You can thank Nirvana for that
You can thank Sebastian's temper and narcissistic tendencies for that. Don't get me wrong, I have thought he's one of the best for the last 30+ years!
@@lesliet6515 we all were young and stupid back in our 20's. I know i was. Lol. If he comes back GREAT, if not, That's cool to. He's putting out great music as well. His new album is killer!!
Fantastic reaction. This is my favorite Skid Row song. You can feel the pain in every scream. A powerful message everyone should hear.
There is a song called "Quicksand Jesus" and some notes he hits later in the song that will send chills up your back dude was a sick badass singer in his day!!In a Darkened Room is another powerful song!!Love when he does the raspy parts!!!
I always open a big smile everytime I see someone listening to skid row for the first time. Wish I could feel like that again, meeting Sebastian's vocals ft the 1st time
18 and Life , Youth Gone Wild, Monkey Business, Slave to the Grind etc. It's a deep banging rabbit hole and that voice, killer.
Sébastien has the most insane vocal range you will ever hear.
He was phenomenal at their peak. But introduce yourself to Geoff Tate in his Queensrÿche prime.
Sebastian Bach is one of the best vocalists to ever exist. Hands down.
Also, what @caphowdy666 wrote about where the song came from is correct. 100%.
Sabastian Bach is one of the big three vocal talents of the hair metal genre. The other two are Miljenko Matijevic of Steelheart and Geoff Tate of Queensryche. To see how talented they are, check them out live.
You never heard Tony Harnell from TNT?
I Remember You - Mind boggling high notes vocal and an amazing ballad.
One of the best metal voices ever, real and raw. Freaking sick
Great reaction!! You gotta do a reaction on Skid Rows song "I remember you " and "Youth gone Wild"....Sabatian Bach is like no other👍
You can feel his pain he has for his friend when he sings this.
Sebastian has a new album coming out - 2 tracks are out and he is touring. He's my absolute favorite vocalist. His voice is truly unparalleled... ❤🔥🤘
I've heard What Do I Got to Lose... Dude's pipes are still ironclad...
This is easily the best vocal performance on any Skid Row song! Just off the chain, insane breath control, power and emotion. Great reaction!
which is saying a lot, because bach gave a LOT of stellar performances.
He's asking is everything you've done in life, and all the friendships you've forged with people (like Sebastian), and everything you've achieved in life so far just been wasted time, because you're letting drugs (heroin, "...and the HORSE stampeeds and rages in the name of desperation") take everything away from you like none of that stuff ever meant anything. This song reminds me of my best friend every time I hear it. He died of an overdose and I could see it coming for a long time but I couldn't stop it from happening eventually. I knew it was bad, but just before he passed, I finally found out just how bad he'd gotten. This song played in my head the whole time at his funeral. When I hear it, I still get a lump in my throat after all these years.
Yes i met Sab and the band in 1990 at Festival Hall in Brisbane, Australia, i went back with the band and partyed at the Park Royal hotel in Brisbane Australia, it yes soo cool for a 17 year old kid, Sab said love your Guns N Roses tattoo you just got in our party , sexy girls and so much more , i relive this over and over ! Love Skid Row and to that lady who stole my signed Skid Row t shirt from north Brisbane Australia, i remember you ! Lol
One of the top 5 voices of the 80´s/90´s. Absolutely amazing vocals. Sebastian Bach was a vocal beast :)
One of the top 1
For me it was Sebastian, Geoff Tate, Ray Alder, Rob Halford and Mike Howe. 😁
I saw Pantera open for Skid Row, went for Skid Row and was my first intro to Pantera. Vulgar Display hadn't dropped yet, nationally, and they weren't well known.
for more unbelievable Sebastian Bach vocals check out "I remember You" , "Youth Gone Wild" and "18 and Life"
Every song on their debut album is a banger. Slave to the Grind is very good too. I saw them in a nightclub first tour. Second tour they were headlining an auditorium with about 2500-3500 more capacity. They were hot back then.
I grew up on this stuff and went to the shows. It's so awesome to see younger people discovering this.
Back in days everyone had there own unique voices also check out Kix , Tesla , Britney Fox , Cinderella and journey for vocals
While today most singers use autotune & their blind fans said what a talented singer😂.
Uh no thanks..all posers
Baz was only 22 when he sang this. I saw them in 1990. Yeah,I’m 50. 😂
if you havent heard steelheart you gotta add them to the list! add Steelheart - she´s gone . also ill never let you go. the singer Miljenko Matijevic has one of the most insane vocals but his carreer got derailed in an accident during a live performance in 92. he got hit in the head so he suffered broken nose, cheekbone, jaw, twisted spine, and severe memory loss.
Bach has serious pipes. Skid Row was one of those groups that I thought would be huge. 2 more songs that show cases his vocals are 18 and Life and I Remember You
This is oneof the greatest vocal performances ever recorded!
Sebastian is giving his inner self in this performance.
I discovered this song a couple weeks ago. I'm glad my reaction was the same as yours. The control in Sebastian's voice is incredible. Not sure how I let this song slip by in my youth as I was an avid Skid Row fan. I Loved the way your facial expressions matched your feelings as the song progressed. Keep up the good work.
Babe's, HIS HAIR HAS EVERYTHING TO DO WITH THE MUSIC! Sebastian Bach is one of the archetypes of HAIR METAL lead singers. Not only one of the most beatiful men ever, but an amazingly talented and gifted sungers. Im so glad to see hes being recognized by young people now. His voice us stil my fav, 30+ years later. ❤
I consider myself lucky for growing up with the 80's and early 90's metal music
Gotta do "I Remember You" too, I suppose. It's an EPIC vocal/guitar solo combo for the ages. Bach did some time on Broadway in "Jekyll and Hyde" too, so he's super legit and still going.
Sebastian is my hands down, favorite vocalist ever. I had no idea who he was or anything about Skid Row until I saw them live, opening for Bon Jovi on April 10, 1989. Within 30 seconds of Sebastian's first vocal I knew I was heading to the record store to get their album the next day. And as for his hair and the rest of his looks, my sister was also at that concert. She went shopping the next day too, but for the poster instead of the album. And while this song probably shows off his vocals better than any of his songs, to get a better feel for the music Sebastian actually preferred check out their song "Slave to the Grind." I don't remember what show it was on but about 15 years or so ago, it was voted the third best heavy metal song of all time.
I grew up on 80's hair metal. That's all there was for me for the longest time. Sebastian Bach WAS the voice of the 80's. Sure, there were a few bands that were bigger than Skid Row, but none had a bigger voice. You picked a great song as an intro to their music. Next, I suggest something more of a banger. Maybe try either Youth Gone Wild or Makin a Mess from their debut album or Slave to the Grind and Monkey Business from their second album.
Skid Row was one of my favorites growing up. I'm glad you enjoyed the introduction to them and hope to see you reacting to more. Thank you, Ray!!!!
You're so fun to watch with this reaction, Skidrow and Sebastián are freakin awesome!!!
Sebastian was one of the best . he also ventured into the Broadway format, preforming in the musical Jekyll and Hyde. Id suggest 18 and Life, Youth Gone Wild, and I Remember You should you decide to keep digging...cheers!🤘
One of the best Rock Vocalist❤❤
He just released a new song and it sounds great!
I got into Skid Row after seeing the Youth Gone Wild video on MTV. All these years later Wasted Time is on the playlist of my mind. It's IMO their best song. It's from the heart and the honesty of it helps it to transcend the time period it came out of. It's just an insanely beautiful song any way you look at it.
We were soooo spoiled with vocals like these, back then
Thanks for yanking me back to high school, didn't waste too much time
a lot of great vocal in 80as-90as era. Super band hair metal that make you fantastic specially during thier concert. Awesome memories at that time❤❤❤
The first four songs on “Slave to the grind” is as strong an opening to an album as any I can think of, and this song is a great way to end.
Sebastian Bach had a hell of a set of pipes, as well as some of the best hair in 80's hair metal lol. Skid Row has some real bangers in their catalogue "18 and life", "I Remember You", "Youth Gone Wild" and "Quicksand Jesus" are some of their best known songs. If you haven't yet you need to check out Warrant, "Uncle Tom's Cabin" would be a good starter.
One of the best vocalists of ANY genre. Period. Insane vocals 100%!
I just LOVE seeing people react to the 80's vocalists,..
It Never gets OLD : )
Gotta check them out on one of their much heavier songs. "Youth Gone Wild," "Slave to the Grind," or "Monkey Business" would all be great choices.
Honestly, YGW is not even that heavy. I think wasted time is much heavier, both instrumentally and thematically.
@@dclegends8689right. Everything in Slave to the Grind makes ygw seem like bubble gum music
In a nutshell........ This is the shit we had back in the 80s
it's the sort of music that when you hear it , it can literally make you cry and you don't know why .
i'ts sad that we'll never have a time like that again
Actually Wasted Time as well as the album Slave to the Grind came out in 1991....not in the 80s.
“Make amends” I believe is what you were searching for. This album came out right after I finished High School. Their self titled debut was part of my High School soundtrack. Agree with others saying check out “In a darkened room” and, “Quicksand Jesus”. Always dug the heaviness of this record. I have a very wide spectrum of musical tastes. Have a special place in my heart for 80’s hair metal so, I just subscribed.
I was around to see Skidrow perform live a few times during their peak in the late 80’s early 90’s.
I then saw them years later with different singers, and it was so glaring how incredible Bach’s voice was compared to the others.
A supreme metal voice, a great stage presence, and yes incredible hair!
I really wish he could have worked it out with the other guys in the band, as none of the parties were as good or successful without each other.
I saw Skid Row back in 92"
Fuckin Legends !
One of my favorite Skid Row songs.
Bach in his prime was insanely good. Those first 3 Skid Row albums just kept topping themselves. Then the egos blew it! Bach keeps saying they owe it to the fans to get back together but the band wants nothing to do with him. Lzzy Hale is temporarily taking over lead vocals now. They have gone through several singers since Bach and have never captured the magic they had together with him.
Nicely put. I couldn't agree more. They were never a favorite lf mine but I always had the upmost respect for his incredible vocal abilities.
Every Skid Row reaction video I watch I always have to throw props to my man Scotti Hill on lead guitar.
His solos can tear your face off and your heart out at the same time. He's such a massively underrated guitarist and these Skid Row mega-ballads wouldn't be as good without his contributions.
Oh I love this I just subscribed I know how you feel we all know how you feel😂😂 please oh please react to more skid row these guys were phenomenal and yeah those belts are something special. Yeah I'm pretty sure you'll love deep diving into some skid row you won't be let down
I loved his vocals from back in the day.
love your reaction, i saw skid row at donington monsters 1992 bach was awesome
Your reaction was priceless! A couple of other songs from that era I can recommend are “House of Pain” by Faster Pussycat and “Don’t Close Your Eyes” by Kix. You’ve got so much cool music to explore from this time!
Great video!
Its about Steven Adler of Guns N Roses they were best friends , and Steven lost the plot on drugs , Skid Row the band didnt want to release this song but Sab put his foot down and wanted it done ! And what a real song !
Don't know if anyone mentioned this or not, but "The Horse" (that stampedes and rages) is a reference to the slang term for heroin. As many people have found out, you start riding the horse, it soon takes over and leads you down a dark path.
My father died from a heroin overdose at the age of 28. I was barely a year old at the time. My mother (also an addict) gave up custody of me to his mother. I didn't learn of all this until my early 20s, as she kept that hidden. Maybe she figured I'd endured enough childhood trauma, and didn't need to learn that. I've sworn to never take heroin, and here I am.... I'm 57 years old, and have lived more than twice the time my father did. Hell, I'm older now than my mother was when she died. I don't think she even made it to 50, and if she did, it was just barely.
I will also add that I am physically disabled at this point, and I take opioids for pain. My spine is completely shot, my joints are messed up, and I have nerve problems. But my doctor keeps me on lower dosages, and my wife is there to make sure I don't do anything stupid. I have a good support system in place. But it could have gone very different in my younger years, if anything had happened differently.
I LOVE when I see people react to things I already knew :) Sebastian Bach is in the top 5 rock singers of all time in my book. Robert Plant, Geoff Tate, Freddy Mercury, Klaus Meine, Sebastian Bach, Don Dokken.
I really appreciate the youth of today understanding where the real talent was and forever will be. :)
One of the best! Check out Quick Sand Jesus, In A Darkened Room and my favorite Monkey Business!
skid row "i remember you" is the benchmark to review
I watched a young Bach live no auto tune of course. Insane range. Great power. Those notes and strains…when in early thirties I watched again and his vocals had deteriorated. Keep in mind I saw him ten years apart and I loved his vocals. Great guy too. I hated seeing what happened to the vocals.
You know what else is great, you being a Goof... here for it! and more Skid Row too
Dammit , every time. Tha boy can really belt it out. Quicksand Jesus next. Monkey Business is cool as well.
Awesome reaction! Skid Row it's a hell of a band 😊
Thank You for reacting to this song it's one of my favorite Skid Row songs I loved them growing up I read Steven Adlers book and it's amazing that he's not dead after all his drug use Sebastian's vocals were insane in his younger years I don't think he can reach this kind of level today there were only a handful of singers that could reach this range Rob Halford from Judas Priest and Geoff Tate from Queensryche and the singer from Steelheart you have to listen to there song She's Gone it's one of the greatest ballads that was ever put out and he has amazing range in the song
Excellent reaction he is one of the best vocalist in the business.❤️😎🇺🇸
The hand offs from his vocals to guitar solos are insane!!
Once.... long ago. There was an actress(Christina Applegate)going to an event with an actor(Brad Pitt) she left bread at the party and went home with Sabastian. Long live rock and roll. \m/,
You're awesome, love your vibe.
I love watching first reactions to this song and the moment the person watching feels it in their soul❤
I was a teenager dreaming big and all we wanted was a front man that could do Bas. I know live he isnt as good as in studio, but those studio tracks are legendary. Hes got a place on the podium next to Freddy Mercury. This song is so moving. This is why auto-tune just doesnt cut it for us GenX.
Make amends, is what you were looking for. Great reaction as always.
Lol I just made a comment about how you discovered my favorite metal guitar player and here you are you viewing a song by my favorite metal singer! 😳
This is my favorite song of skid row, phenomenal.
This song is about Steven Adler of Guns n Roses, Sebastian's friend, and his battle with heroin addiction. Plus, Sebastian Bach is CANADIAN!!!
Check out Quicksand Jesus for Sebastian at max level.
I thought he was born in the Bahamas and lived there for a few years before moving to Canada.
@@kellymckinney9050yes, but he holds canadian citizenship
Listen to Iron Maiden’s “Waisted years” that song is what you explained about this song.
Check out Quicksand Jesus. Also great vocals by Bach.
It's really funny to see your expressions. Great Sebastian Bach!
You said it at the end of the video”DAM”. Sums it all up.
This brings back great memories, this album was their first "HEADLINE TOUR" and PANTERA opened for them
chills
I love so much, your reaction
My favorite hard rock/metal album of all time!
Saw them open for G&R in Philly. Slave to the Grind tour..He was amazing live also. 18 and Life from the first album he’s a siren also.
