Will Non-Muslims Automatically Go To Hell? | Dr. Shabir Ally

  • Dr. Shabir Ally responds to a viewer who is struggling with the idea of a Merciful and Just God condemning people to eternal Hell, particularly those who are non-Muslim. The viewer feels that Islam is the truth but is hesitant to fully accept it due to this troubling concept. Dr. Shabir acknowledges that this concern is common and has been traditionally addressed in Islamic sermons and writings with the notion that non-Muslims are automatically destined for Hell. However, he challenges this view by pointing out that the Quran repeatedly emphasizes God's mercy and provides a more inclusive outlook on salvation. Dr. Shabir explains that people are often shaped by their environments-whether they are born into Muslim, Christian, Hindu, or atheist families-and it wouldn't align with God's mercy to condemn individuals solely based on their circumstances of birth. He highlights Quranic verses, such as Surah 2:62, which suggest that those who believe in God and do good deeds, regardless of their religious identity, may not face eternal punishment. He also addresses the second part of the viewer's question regarding the permanence of Hell. Citing Islamic scholar Ibn Qayyim Al-Jawziyyah, Dr. Shabir discusses the idea that Hell may not be eternal for everyone, with some Quranic verses implying that Hell's duration could be temporary.

welcome back to the path my friend. i apostated from catholicism half a lifetime ago. and Allah swt showed me the way as well, but only once i asked sincerely. one day when i was on the edge of depression, i just got on my knees and said "please show me the straight path". i didnt even know who i was praying to. i didn't believe that jesus was god, and i didn't really believe that if there was a god, that such a being would care at all about me. but i just wanted a straight path in life, and decided to give praying a try. then Alhamdulillah Allah guided me to Islam.

The Arabic word ٱلْإِسْلَام (Islam) meant "Submission or Surrender to god" at the time that the Quran was revealed. So what this verse is saying is that anybody who refuses to submit to god will be one of the losers, like Iblis (Satan) who refused to bow in submission when humanity was created. But anybody among multiple groups, cultures and religions who submits to god, believes and does good deeds will have a reward. This interpretation is backed up by verse 2:62 ~ "Surely, those who believed in God ( الله), and those who are Jews, and Christians, and Sabians, -whosoever believes in Allah and in the Last Day, and does good deeds - all such people will have their reward with their Lord, and there will be no reason for them to fear, nor shall they grieve."

I was like, how? In buddhism, there is no God, but she insisted thats not true until i showed her some monks on CZcams saying, Buddhism is a Godless religion.
She was shocked, taken back and confused.
I would say she fell into that category in that surah that the sheikh mentioned, and those that believe in God and do good.
She unknowingly believed in God and did good what she thought or was taught to what good is until i introduce Islam and she has a solid moral criteria that links to God, just as her heart naturally whispered for so long.

I am a Christian, past present and future. Many Christians believe that you must be of the Christian faith to be "saved". However, I differ from them in that regard. I often watch your videos and find much in common with your teaching. In a way it resembles what I try to tell "my people" so to speak. In the 10th chapter of Luke in the Bible Jesus tells the story of the Good Samaritan. But what prompted Him telling that story was, a lawyer stood up, well here it is word for word starting at verse 25 and then I will continue:
25 And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
26 He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou?
27 And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.
28 And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live.
Notice verse 28. He gives no condition having to do with any rituals or special beliefs that Christians often quote thinking they alone will see heaven. He, meaning Jesus, simply says "this do and thou shalt live". And if we think on it further, the scripture that so many try to make it where no one but Christians will be saved says "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved". But what is believing on Jesus? For me it's believing in his teachings and his philosophy and that is to do good, love God, and love your fellow man as in the scripture above. All that to say this. I think a lot of people in both faiths will be surprised to see those of both faiths that have tried to live good lives and had a reverence for God, and loved their fellow man, in heaven. I am and always will be a Christian, but I believe I will meet you in heaven one day, whatever heaven is. And since the God of Abraham is also the God Of Ishmael and Isaac, to my knowledge Abraham only worshiped one God. I do not know much of how or what you perceive God to be, but since it is the same entity that we as Christians worship, Then are we not worshiping the same God tho we may use a different name to reference "Him"? All that to say this, we need to come together more in the different faiths and stop thinking it's us or them. It is we. We are all brothers and sisters and we best learn to get along and stop being so judgmental of each other. Again, I enjoy listening to you because I find that we agree on much more than we disagree on. Tho we come at it from a different path because of how we were raised, we seem to arrive quite often at the same destination.

    • @bukor0su368
      @bukor0su368 Před 25 dny +2

Your argument fundamentally misrepresents Christian doctrine. The claim that "doing good" is enough for salvation ignores Jesus's clear teaching in John 14:6, where He states, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." Christianity is not about mere ethical behavior; it revolves around faith in Jesus Christ's divine nature and redemptive work.
Moreover, suggesting that Christians and Muslims worship the same God is misleading. Christianity believes in a Triune God, while Islam rejects the Trinity and emphasizes God's absolute oneness (Tawhid). These are not minor differences but essential theological divergences.
Your argument also promotes moral relativism, undermining the core of religious faith. True Christian faith insists on belief in Christ, not just good deeds. Claiming that all paths lead to the same destination is not inclusive but deceptive, denying the transformative truth of Christianity.
In essence, your perspective dilutes crucial doctrinal truths and misrepresents both religions. Genuine interfaith dialogue requires acknowledging and respecting deep theological differences rather than glossing over them.

@@bukor0su368 There is a reason there are more than 1000 denominations in the Christian faith. We all read the same book but interpret it differently. I respect your interpretation, but I see it differently. When Jesus said I am the way the truth and the light, no one comes to the Father but by me, to me he is not saying thru Him as a physical being, but via His teachings of love. But, that's just my way of seeing it. You see it differently and I respect your right to see it that way. I'm sure a lot more people see it your way than mine. But I did not come by my way of seeing it lightly. My father was a preacher and that led me on a path of many years pondering and studying why we are so divided in the world. Politics and Religion. Divide and conquer. At some point we best learn to be kind to each other, or we will always be at odds with each other and war will never end. We are all just human beings here on earth trying to provide for and care for our loved ones. We all have far more in common than what divides us and yet, we let the political and religious leaders manipulate us via our faith in many instances and our political leanings. It's all about votes, money and power. As long as we the working class allows it, they will always keep us at odds with each other while they make off with the money. And it's us that will fight their wars, not them. Again, we do the fighting, they make the money. It's a sad game. I'm tired of it. So yes, I talk peace and kindness tho I realize I am outnumbered. But maybe, just maybe, one day we can stop this us or them mentality that they so cleverly manipulate us with. Hopefully this can help you see where I'm coming from. But again, I respect your way of looking at it. I just see it differently.

The concept of Hell was originated from ancient pagan religions of Babylonian, Romans and Greeks .Nowhere in God’s word Bible, God speaks about torture of wicked people in HELLFIRE. Bible says God is kind, merciful and loving. It is impossible for a Merciful and Loving God to torture someone in hell. Moreover, torturing someone is EVIL, and God is HOLY, Bible says it is impossible for God to exert EVILS. Then what will happen to wicked people? In my understanding of the Book of God, anyone who believes in God is a Muslim, regardless of their specific faith, the people who followed Muhammad were called believers After the time of the prophets, people began identifying themselves with different names: the Israelis called themselves Jews, and those who followed Christ became Christians. God warned us not to divide ourselves in this way, but we did so anyway. During the Abbasid Caliphate, the term "Muslim" became exclusive to those who followed Muhammad, while others were labeled as "kafir." Interestingly, the original meaning of "kafir" had nothing to do specifically with disbelief, but it was twisted during that time to serve the purposes of the Abbasid rulers. As a result, anyone who did not follow Muhammad was labeled a kafir, and only we were considered Muslims-the only ones destined for paradise. they kinda forgot what god says .
111 And they say, 'None will enter Paradise except one who is a Jew or a Christian.' That is merely their wishful thinking. Say, 'Produce your proof, if you should be truthful.'112 Yes, whoever submits his face in Islam to Allah while being a doer of good will have his reward with his Lord. And no fear will there be concerning them, nor will they grieve."
(Surah Al-Baqarah, verses 111-112). so we are saying only us will go to paradise and the rest is not . forgive me but most of translation of the book is just not accurate .for people who are really diverse in Arabic language would understand .

If they accept his teachings, they will be counted as righteous and will be awarded eternal life on earth but if they choose to reject God, they will be counted wicked.

In some hadith like Bukhari and Sahih Muslim, the founder of Islam himself says no Muslim can enter Paradise no matter what good deeds he does:
“Abu Huraira (May Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (PBHU) said: “None of you will be saved by his deeds.” A man said: “Even you, Messenger of Allah?” He said: “Not even me, except when Allah encompasses me with His mercy.” ( The Abridgment for The Authentic Copy of Sahih Al-Bukhary and Muslim by Imam Zin al-Deen al-Zubaidy, Translated by Rizq Wahid Sediq Muhammad. Hadith No. 1861. El-Masoura, Egypt, Dar Al-Manarah. 2010).
That is self explanatory. So, don't continue to deceive yourself by expecting to have an eternally erect manhood for 72 virgins. I don't want such a paradise. These were fake promises given to Arab men to cause them to fight jihads and be ready to die in war.

People hear about it and don’t bother to do proper research on it. Some do but simply just reject it for various reasons like fear of family abandonment, what their parents would think , fear of trying something “ new “. Some hear about Islam and just make it their personal mention to try and refute it , they keep trying and trying because they don’t want to accept that the religion they are born into has been tampered with (Christianity ) or simply just false (no offense indu ) …. Some people on other end , hear about Islam but from the wrong people ( the so called apostate and ex Muslims ) and they end up having the wrong view of Islam …..
Regardless Allah is just , I am a Muslim , I am not guaranteed heaven , it’s only by Allah’s mercy …….. if I go to hell , I definitely deserved it .

I made so many other mistakes in life, maybe God would forgive everyone else and make the "bad example" out of me. I would be happy in hell - finally knowing that there is a God and everyone else is taken care of. And one day even God would get sick of my whining and let me be with him and all the others.

1:00 is not just a tradition, the Messenger (PBUH) is the one who told us this, even in the Qur’an.
    Sahih Muslim 153
It is narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) observed:
By Him in Whose hand is the life of Muhammad, he who among the community of Jews or Christians hears about me, but does not affirm his belief in that with which I have been sent and dies in this state (of disbelief), he shall be but one of the denizens of Hell-Fire.
3:14 Verse (2:62) The People of the Book speak before the mission of the Messenger (PBUH) Allah will not describe anyone as having faith while this person does not believe in his Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)!
This is the evidence from the Qur’an:
They have certainly disbelieved who said, “Allah is the Messiah, the son of Mary” while the Messiah has said, “O Children of Israel, worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord.” Indeed, he who associates others with Allah - Allah has forbidden him Paradise, and his refuge is the Fire. And there are no helpers for the wrongdoers.

Though I would really like to adopt this interpretation for peace of mind, you're cherry-picking verses to fit a personal perspective as opposed to altering your perspective to fit the Quranic message. 33:64-65 quite literally debunks the entire claim; quantity of the occurrence of 'abada' has no bearing on the interpretation. All it takes is one clear verse, as the one I referenced.
Huge respect for the debates and knowledge you have shared with us over the years, and there is no doubt that each soul's destination is under God's purview alone, to which we are given generalities and not specifics. God may have mercy on whomever he wills, and may punish whomever he wills, be it a Muslim or non-Muslim. But you cannot perform very weak and dishonest exegesis to support your claims. Where you can, stick to what is clear and do not dilute the message. May Allah guide us all.

HELLFIR E: According to Qur’an , The HELLFIRE will exist FOREVER ( 2:91). Now , question is ,do really the concept of Hell originated from God? The concept of Hell was originated from ancient pagan religions of Babylonian, Romans and Greeks .Nowhere in God’s word Bible, God speaks about torture of wicked people in HELLFIRE. Bible says God is kind, merciful and loving. It is impossible for a Merciful and Loving God to torture someone in hell. Moreover, torturing someone is EVIL, and God is HOLY, Bible says it is impossible for God to exert EVILS. Then what will happen to wicked people? God is bearing patience till the arrival of JUDGEMENT DAY, till then he has given every wicked a chance to set matter straight with God and pursue righteousness. If a wicked keeps on the path of Evil, he will be terminated forever,as the justice of God demands this.
Judgement of God: According to Bible, God will execute judgement on three categories of people
      1. Righteous people : people who lived according to God’s principles will be awarded with eternal life in paradise on earth.
      2. Unrighteous people: people who were never got the chance to learn about God due to circumstances, will be given a chance to learn about God. If they accept his teachings, they will be counted as righteous and will be awarded eternal life on earth but if they choose to reject God, they will be counted wicked.
      3. Wicked: Those who knew about God but choose to follow their own inclinations will be counted as wicked. As we have seen in HELLFIRE section, these people will be terminated forever i.e, they will be non existent.

    He replied:
What is definite is that it is eternal, and no other view is known among the salaf. Hence, the scholars made this one of their tenets of faith, so that we believe that Hell is eternal and will last forever.
