You're getting there! So nice! Can't wait to see some numbers! Keep up the good work, i'm enjoying every single video you put out 🤟🏼
Thank you! Wont be long.
That sounds even better brotha, it's gonna be nasty Lil Cruze when tuned. I can't wait myself. I swear everytime I come in from work I look to see if you have another video uploaded 🤣. Love it
LOL! Probably will put out more this week. At least by Sat or Sun. Just depends on how quickly I can get the work done and edit. :) I appreciate it!
@@cmattdabrat is this a ball bearing turbo or bushing
@@spankthemonkey3437 It's a journal bearing turbo.
Loving the frequency of videos, and importantly, all the progress.
Thanks!
Superb progress after all of the problems, cant wait to see this machine get a dyno tune. Bring it on!
Thanks! Definitely been quite the journey.
One of the best things of this build is the turbo swapping ability based on budget without having to do anything different with the exhaust manifold or intercooler piping 🥰
Beautiful job Matt. I had no clue you went through hell after you did all the machining and mods last year, having to repair the motor. Good to see your persistence paid off :)!
Sounds purrty :3!!!
Thanks! Let's just say I've been finding all the weak spots lol.
Man I'm itching to turbo my next project after watching this! Also I believe the more efficient the engine is the less timing it needs!
You're right about that! I'm running somewhat high CR for boost 10.5:1 so could be it needs less, but I swear it spun the wheels before with stock timing, which was another 5º of advance. A dyno would tell me what it likes. At this point just doing everything by the seat of my pants and data.
Matt. You are one determined individual, I'll give you that. Failure is not an option. This engine has ran you round and round but your driven👍
I appreciate that! These things take patience. There's been a handful of times I had to ask myself why I'm doing this again, but just gotta keep the end results in mind. :)
Very excited for the exhaust upgrade, this thing is insane
Thanks! I'm looking forward to seeing how it changes the tone.
Love what you doing here ... cant wait for the dyno
Thanks! Me too!
Hi Matthew I happy to see you getting forward step by step it sund so nice
Thank you!
I'm amazed on what you have been doing. How I wish have I the skills like you do so I can work on my chevy cruze.. Love your work man. I'm a fan from the Philippines
Thank you!
If you want to get rid of rasp look into Vibrant bottle style straight through resonators, 12” should do it. That’s all I have on my car (3.3T and straight back with downpipes and there’s almost no rasp at all)
This was a surprise video! Man that's awesome work brother.
Thank you!
Good job matt finally we can hear that ecotek roar dude!!!! Nice job
Thanks!
Now i have a lot of mechanical empathy with my cruze. As always great video mate.
Thanks!
Add the LS coils. I added them to my 1.6 sonic and it works. The first LS wiring diagram I used had the "signal ground" and "ignition signal" swapped so my car did not start on the first start up.
Definitely want to get back into that. Just taking it a project at a time.
I'm currently in Killeen Texas, about 2-3 hours drive away from houston. Got my 1.6L Aveo5 NA tuned to the max factory abilities and CAI but Turbo is where I'm going with the project next. Daily driver turbo. You should get a chevy 4 banger meet going someday =D
P>S> I own a 3D printing business, so if you need that custom air filter housing let me know, I'll see what I can do.
That's awesome! Definitely could use some help. There's a great turbo setup that would work and be reliable. Email me. mattc4481 @ gmail.com
Lets GOO!! its coming along day by day, I also I needed help with what may cause my Chevy Cruze to shut off by itself, but it starts right back up, auto btw
Thanks! What mods have you done?
Thats a very Peaky Power Curve tho,
Sadly Wont be much use in normal Traffic/City Driving as rarely will get that high in RPM unless driving hard or on track
But sounds Great and 2great results for the costs
That surge sounds nice.
Love it! :)
Just having a look at the quick hptuners screen you had up, you gotta mess with your tm or sensor config because your throttle isn’t opening fully like mine was until I messed with it
From my understanding, most tb don't read 100% on most vehicles even though you're commanding it. I'll have to verify physically and address it with the tuner once we hit the dyno.
Nice turbo!!!
Thanks!
Looks like a good unit. Definitely copper washers. Brass is harder than steel.
But it's not.. tensile and ductile testing says otherwise...
@62saki91 crush washer are made out of copper
@061 GARAGE I was referring to the brass harder than steel part of your comment.. yes crush washers are copper, but brass is softer than steel. It is more ductile ( malleable) and has lower tensile strength than steel.
Ur endings are epic lol 😆
lol thanks!
I didn’t know you were in Houston man, hope to see the build at one of these events one day.
Looking forward to it.
Hello please tell me how much horses this engine haves after the turbo .This engine is 140 hp
I might need your help when comes the time to tune for mine when I add my supercharger!
Shouldn't be too difficult.
Hello! In what part of Houston are you located? Will you tune my Focus ST? Let me know please
Good proyect 👍👍👍👍
Thanks
sounds like brian eclipse from fast and furious 1 😂 nice build bud
lol thanks!
Next episode, turbski rippin hrd on dyno 😂. For my personal preference a lil bit to loud but the bangers are awesome from 2 to 3rd. 😍😍🔥🔥
The FlowMaster FX should help. I don't mind the level, but would like to get some rasp out. Hell yes! Well, have a few more things to do, but hopefully I can squeeze time in this week to get her to the dyno. Just depends on work.
Awesome!!
Thanks!
Is there any benefits from 10w30 🤔 I’ve been running 5w30
I cannot wait to turbo my Cruze
Dew et!
Can you do a video on how you did the oil return/feed lines and into the block?
Certainly!
Fr ☝️, just now watching all ready stoked!!!
Need some launch control action 😁
Forgot to add that, but have a WOTbox I need to install as well. Just need to find the wiring diagram for my model so we can get some 2 step and build boost off the line and launch hard.
@@cmattdabrat she bout to party 🥳 haha
Sou do Brasil mas aqui nao encontrei um kit turbo pra meu cruze 1.8 , gostaria muito de adaptar um
Duuuuuude yesssssss!!!!!
:)
Can't wait anymore to see the results🤣
LOL!!! I feel the same way.
@@cmattdabrat gotta get the diesel tuned now, don't wanna get left behind🤣🤣🤣
Haha sounds awesome. Woulda been cool to see if you hit max boost sooner with the new turbo.
AR's are still the same. I'll have to check the logs and see what difference there is. If anything, it's built out of better materials and should last longer. Have yet to see it start flash rusting.
@@cmattdabrat Yeah depends on material and all, but typically a billet wheel can either be slightly lighter, or have a thinner nose and other areas to increase efficiency, or both. Doubt it would be huge, but still interesting.
@@802Garage Went back and checked the logs.
Billet
3979 rpm - 1 psi
7353 rpm - 15 psi
Standard
3238 - 1 psi
7704 - 14 psi
The standard version started building boost sooner, but the billet wheel turbo reached peak waste gate boost sooner. Which makes sense seeing as billet cnc wheels tend to be heavier and take longer to build boost, but it's more efficient.
@@cmattdabrat Huh interesting. I mean obviously with tuning changes, weather, what RPM exactly you started the pull, there could be variability. Still cool data! I have a couple turbos I'm rebuilding with upgraded turbine wheels and billet compressor wheels. Hoping they perform a lot better than stock.
I have a 1987 mercedes with the 3.0L diesel and original Garrett turbo.
I would like to add more boost and get a little more power. How do I find out what turbo to look for. I I was told you can adjust the wastegate rod to increase boost pressure. Is this correct.
Just bleed some of the pressure going to the waste gate. You could get a cheap boost controller that is just allows the boost pressure going to the waste gate to bleed off. If the gate opens at say 8 psi, you can bleed that off so the waste gate isn't seeing 8 psi until it actually has 10, 12... 16 if you want to. amzn.to/42skgig
Could add a link for the oil return extented pipe.
ebay.us/Qavz8T
Be careful with nylon push-lock on the bottom of the wastegate. Had a line melt on me sending boost to the moon.
Yikes.I think I have some metal ones in my spare parts box.
could you share the link for your oil feed line?
I did a custom oil feed. I used just a 3/8" NPT 4 way block, 3/8 NPT to 4an , 4an to 1/4" stainless hard line (if I recall correctly), then to a 1/4" hardline to 4an adapter, to a banjo oil feed. I'll look it up, but got most the parts from Motion Raceworks.
I'm definitely glad to see you're getting your smiles per gallon out of that car I can actually say I'm not too much of a fan of those little Chevy cobalts but that little b¡tch is badass 👍👍😎😎
Thank you! I'm definitely enjoying it.
Where do u get the billet oil drain line?
Do you have any updates on the turbo? I'm looking at getting the same one for my 1jz
I've run it up to 25 psi and has been making some power. Lots of fun.
hey bro sorry for another question what size is the exhaust side 4 bolt? 2.5" or 3"? looking for a downpipe or make one for my r33 gtst
nvm at 7:50 you say its 3" thanks!
No worries! You got it! 3".
These PTC fittings. What size? 1/4 ODx 1/8 NPT?
Not sure what PTC fittings are. Which fittings are you referring to.
Did you make the downpipe yourself or is there any for sale with the same hot side bolt pattern ???
I made it czcams.com/video/moMrla977GM/video.html
This build is epic dude! What rpm do you see full boost? I would have thought the 3582 turbo was a little large for the 1.8 but looks like it hauls ass!! 🙌🏻
Thanks! Really have to rev it out. Full boost around 6.5k and pulls hard well into 8.2k.
@@cmattdabrat good to know thanks Matt!
I was going to go the gt3582 on my 1.8L Miata but I chickened out and went with a gt3076 😂😂
That's crazy lol I have the hatchback 2012 I thought redline was like 6-8k but does the turbo increase the redline or just easier to blow engine?
@@BADAZZGAMER420 It's just a big turbo and doesn't start to spool until it's pushing enough exhaust gas lol. I might take it one step down so it's kick in between 4-7k instead of 5-8k. 8k seems to be the limit of what this engine likes.
I was gonna ask about the RPM where boost starts building. I have a 2.4L four banger with a compression ratio of 8.8:1 that i want to put a gt3582r on. Ppl say I'll be waiting for boost at like 4k rpms. My redline is 7200
Hi Matt, this turbo any good for a 3.2 vr6 ?
Will work great.
get a turbo haircut hippie😋 love this channel.
lol, already did ;) thanks!
At what rpm does this turbo comes to life/spools
On this 1.8, around 4500-5k and holds well to 7.5-8k rpm.
As always Matt great video and always improving yourself. Nice to see you getting there. Need to put some (teflon) plumbers tape on the threads to seal the water/oil/air from bypass the threads on the turbo so you don't have leaks. Great job . Hope you sort that exhaust out just to take that rasp out of her , she's a screamer lol 😆.
Thanks for the tips! lol, we'll get those things sorted soon. Just grinding on her daily, or when I have time.
Do you have any of your maps anywhere? Been trying to tune mine and would love a csv or something to compare to. Finding E78 maps online is hell. Went for a Kess clone and I'm working on mapping out mine in WinOLS... extra data is useful haha
I don't, what is your setup? With all the mods I doubt the map would do you any good, but I have the stock map as well as it's current setup.
@@cmattdabrat Looking to do E85 with some 43# injectors (have some cheapo "2000cc" ones too that I found super cheap on Amazon too for funsies) and was planning to hook up a AMR-750 on her along with my DIY "hardware store" water/methanol injection mod I got going haha. If you ever have stock tables anywhere, since I only ever find stuff for the 1.4 on forms. Pretty much just been trying to find more maps/map shapes I can try to recognize in my ECU dump. Though I saw you on a Cruze forum talking about the project; might just make a post and pm you about it
You should get them to send you a 3576 or 3076 and test spool. Yours seems to be spooling pretty slow, you'll have higher avg power if you can be at 20 psi by 4200 in 2nd or 3rd. I find my 60-80 is faster by a long shot with my stock turbo, but 80 - 100 lightyears faster, because the gt3582r simply takes too long to fully spool.
I have a 2.0 vs your 1.8. Did you test spool up, overlay logs? There should be a 200 - 300 rpm difference between the billet wheel ball bearing vs cast and journal bearing. Going to 76r should be another 700 rpms faster spool. So you'll see a larger difference there.
I have a 3076. I'm going to test both to see what works best. Both HP Numbers and 1/4 mile times. You're right about the average power. From what I've seen, in the 1.6 variant (same block and head, small dis.) They tend to like high RPMS before you get anything out of them like a Honda.
Good point. I'll perhaps upload that as another video. I have logs from both, but really no way to overlay them.
I appreciate the solid feedback.
@@cmattdabrat hit it with a 35 or 40 horse shot of nitrous to spool it and let off soon as it spools😁 cleetus mcfarland sprayed it strait on the turbo fins in his Cummins diesel swapped galaxy car🤣.
Does anyone can give me reference where i can find performance kit for rebuild the engine f18d40 chev cruze? Kind of ring piston gasket and the other?
The stock gaskets are fine. The head gasket is a MLS gasket, and will hold up. I got my rods from here as well as my turbo.

All nice man but is like the 5 time u didnt change that air intake ;D Wasnt better to tune it whit the better airflow from the begin ?
Right! Well, I'm not too concerned about it because I can tune it for whatever changes I make.

Is this turbo a .82 turbine housing?
It's the .82.
She sounds spicy!!!!! What gap do you have on the plugs?
Thanks! .20 currently but will more than likely need to decrease that some. Getting a little break up in the higher RPMs.
@@cmattdabrat Believe it or not that’s why I asked. I was getting the same problem on my car and I had to make the gap smaller. What type of plugs are you running?
You know I was just thinking after I made my comment that the gap is getting pretty small. I think for your car they make a coil upgrade. Maybe instead of decreasing the gap leave it where it is and you can increase the spark. I’m also just thinking out loud so if my thought process is wrong feel free to let me know.
I wish you had a 1.4L so I could go on this journey with you, the fitting and specs of the 1.8 and 1.4 are different 😕
Luckily the 1.4 has a lot more support. Aside from a smaller displacement, mine is setup very similar to the ZZP Sonic. Pistons, rods, aftermarket head studs, manifold, fuel pump, 1050x ID injectors...etc. Luckily you wont have to do as much fabrication as kit are readily available.
@@cmattdabrat that’s trueee, but also to be fair idk how to tune, like how you had to tune your car after the turbo swap, in order to get the fuel ratio back to how it’s supposed to be
This would be perfect if it could spool to 15psi before 4k rpm...
Just install an anti lag

Tiff
Not sure what tiff means? Like the file format?
Bit laggy ?
Within it's operating range on this little 1.8, the lag is okay. Doesn't really start making boost until 5k RPM and starts to run out of steam around 7500 rpm.
@@cmattdabrat I run a GT3076 on my 1.8 motor and its full boost by 4000.
@@MrJermbob Nice! I had thought about giving my GT30 a try and seeing how I like it. ATM, doing a max effort kind of thing. And when I ordered fittings for the coolant lines, I got the wrong size, so I stuck with the GT35 for the time being. Who knows, the GT30 I have may be a better fit, but I wont know until I try both.
czcams.com/video/dyY0ibNudsw/video.html
@@cmattdabrat GT30 should be a direct swap now you have done the GT35 mission. It will give you a much broader power band you will find.
