- the elevator stopped at the 3rd floor and didnt open, then pressing the door open up reveals the elevator a foot or two below the landing, this is Westinghouse quality

There was a lift that did the exact same thing in the old Royal Adelaide Hospital; scared the shit out of me when it dropped just as I was exiting to the floor!

This happens usually because of the door zone switch, and its happen on a lot of westinghouse elevators, this happen on the 1959 elevator at the courthouse and it was fixed in a few days.heard somewhere this is a very expensive fix.

@mjndblain always use the phone in the elevator because it'll call the elevator company. Also, never break the doors, they'll press charges and make you pay for it if anythings damaged!

sounds like the door zone switch is failing, if this happens a lot this could be a problem. the courthouse elevator had a door zone switch fail and then elevator was shutdown for a few days as they repaired the switch.

@giggleblaggle its all I got, this is a macys store and they dont care about anything, the Westinghouse in the courthouse and other buildings downtown, always work right, but not the mall ones

@patricknedz no but it just didnt move and the door didnt open i was there for about 45 mins i did have to use the phone
Maybe it skipped in the floor relay/etc. Although this is analog, sometimes digital relays skip a floor and then stop at the floor for a while before the indicator updates. At that point, u have to press door open to open the door 🚪. It could've also have been that the Alarm button reset whatever tantrum it was having lol. Lucky that the 2 door sets connected although it was so far below level. But it doesn't surprise me that a hydro would do this. Maybe it was low on oil, and that shows largely in the leveling.

This happens on the Brighton Cliff lift a lot. To fix it, go back to the next floor down, and then try going up again.
I am guessing this lift slammed to a stop and is ONLY JUST in the door range for the shaft doors!

This might be something to do with the hydraulic pump or something.
I think it was something with the door zone switch, but could be the hydraulic pump, but about 10 years after this video and the pump still works just fine.

Westinghouse does not only make lifts. They also do signalling systems and Platform Screen Doors.
They do many things, & they always have. But they don’t do elevators anymore sadly, as that division got bought by Schindler in 1989.

its usually not low on oil, it was slightly low on oil once in the past 12 years that I know of. I dont know what caused that to happen. I never got stuck in this again after that.

i WAS STUCK in an retirement home visiting my grandma i was in the elevator for 8 hours luckly i have my phone and mp3 player but worst thing i freaked out in the first hour and i took off the inner door off the tracks and im liek ok fuck this so i call my grandma fromt he elevator luckly had signal and i todl he rto call the fron deska nd say im stuck and once they open the door it was half floored crawled up
