  • I receive many requests for CJ7 work/repair videos. Unfortunately I didn’t record much of the work I did in the past - and fortunately I don’t have any pending work/repairs.
That being said, here is a video that I did last winter on how to remove and restore the function of a CJ7 heater/blower box. It is not as detailed as I would have liked it to be (the reason I didn’t post it earlier) but it does show you where all of the removal nuts are to be found and some of the difficulties in removing it. If you are needing to replace a heater core you would follow these same guidelines.
In a nutshell - you need to remove the four screws holding the top of box, the four nuts on the firewall, disconnect the two coolant lines from the heater core, disconnect the power feed wire at the blower, and under the dash remove the control cable to the box and remove the defrost duct from the top of the box.
The blower box is not difficult to remove BUT requires a bit of patience and finesse - and an extra set of hands can go a long way in helping with the reinstall. Not necessary but helpful.

Do you need to take your dash off to get to this?

I noticed the cable bracket is moving, is that supposed to move?

Patric Bear nope. The main bracket is simply riveted to the box and was “giving” because the cable was frozen up. Working properly it will move slightly but all of the real movement should be done by the attached hinged bracket the operates the heater door.

To reinstall, did you put the air box in first or the heater box?
