Omg could Sierra PLEASE do a what I realistically eat in a day like once a month? Yall's situation changes so often, I'd love to know how you stay in shape!
Pizza ovens can be a trial by error until you get it down. Corn meal on the paddle and once the dough is on the paddle get your toppings on and get it in the oven off the paddle fairly quick. We are so jealous of your journey and so happy for you two!
Sierra makes THE best talks of the different DIY-projects. Internet world champ!
I was a bit worried for you kid's taking on this big project. But, you've proven me wrong. You have absolutely transformed this beast of a trawler into a beautiful home, makes my heart smile for you both. ⛵🌏🤿🐠📸🩳👙🌴⛱🩴🎣🥽🐚🐟💧🦈☀️🇦🇺
When you use an impact adhesive, where you have to glue both surfaces, and leave until it goes tacky to dry. If for some reason you make contact when you don’t want too. Pull back the Formica as far back as you can without breaking it. Then use a carpenter’s saw and keep slicing the glued section while pulling. It should then come off.
I use to make kitchens back in the old days. I’ve been there, done that 😂
Formica is a really useful surface for some areas. It's grown a little out of fashion, I'm sure it will come back in at some point, but it shouldn't be discounted. We had a stove / oven that needed to be replaced on our sailboat. We don't ever use an oven, so we decided just to put in a cook top stove which isn't really that easy to find on a budget. I ended up building a box to mount the stove to and covering it in Formica and repurposing the gimbal from the old stove. Looks great and we gained storage from where the oven was.
When you cut squares in stratified panels like Formica for openings or electrical outlets or else, don't forget to round the 90 degree angles because it can crack in those corners with time.
The scène at the end hmm 🤙🙏that’s wat live is. All about 💪🙏
So impressive!! Your teamwork, dedication, hard work, innovative ideas, excellent aesthetic taste. Plus I'm also a big fan of hot dogs !! Thanks for sharing all the steps in your progress of fixing up that classic old trauler.
I remember the day you first looked at the boat, $100.00. it's been fun watching you two work through your journey, looking good.
Check for Black mold under the window !!!!
Yes, and wear respiratory protection.
@6:50 ... You're fortunate. The rear bulkhead of the salon on my boat had a joint seam just above the door coming from the rear deck. After four decades of exposure, it became obvious that there was deterioration going on behind the Formica panels. That small "really bad area" under that window of yours is similar to about 60% of my boat's rear bulkhead. I ended up demoing the whole bulkhead, but saved the old door for re-use.
I'll be replacing that rear bulkhead with Coosa board since it'll never rot or deteriorate.
Great job documenting your rebuild. My wife and I want to live on a boat. I’m sure we will be doing a ton of work once we buy a boat. Thank you for all your tips.
if you are putting framica on table or on your boat use a rolling pin to make sure all the glue gets a good push down.
Use dowling rods as spacers for positioning before sticking the laminate
That popsicle-stick template method is really neat!!!
You can unstick formica with a heat gun or hot hair dryer. Then you reglue both sides and start over. Chuck
I take the grill has a weather cover, that pizza oven alone, makes that set up worth every cent.
Great job guys! Looks so nice. Now time to go have some fun!!
It’s really coming together guys! So happy to see you enjoying dinner and a drink on your deck with a beautiful sunset ❤️
Outstanding...video today...both of you are doing such a beautiful restoration on your project..She is going to be a real Jen of workmanship...enjoy your journey...
What a clever way to make templates. Notice that you're wearing sweat shirts. because you're on the coast of CA. September and October are typically great months along the coast. But expect the weather to change towards colder and windier in the bottom half of October. The winter storms start in the 2nd half of November.
You did a great job remodeling that boat. You two are just too cute together.❤
Let's get this auction started, I will be the first to bid. You both did a wonderful job on the trawler... Very proud of the both of you.👍
Edit 2:44 wait till you get as old as me, skin tears like paper... Hope it's getting better kiddo.
One more edit: I have been happily married for 40 years last August, the two of you working together reminds me of our youth as young adults, the magic is there with the both of you. I see it very clearly, just remember.... Being married is a give and take, but it's much better when you give, more than you take. God bless you both.
Hands off! It's my boat! I called dibs the 1ST episode! Also, I agree with you. Me and mine have been married 20 something years. This reminds me of the work we did together to turn a near condemned foreclosure into a home as a young couple. So much sweat, blood and tears, but the memories are so worth it.
Not to get too sentimental but I can’t help but think about y’all’s wedding vows every now and then when I watch your videos. That was a beautiful wedding and wonderful vows, especially yours Sierra. Give Jetty a hug and pet Billy. LOL 😂. Love y’all. ❤
Sierra is so entertaining she needs an agent for a Tv gig. You guys should look at some of the teak veneer on the market for some of the walls. I have used a lot of it for restoring a 1979 48 Tolly.
When you were having your "Fun time" wtih the Formica it brought back terrible memories of me doing countertops many years ago... That Contact glue does NOT play LOL. Fantastic job as always you 2 and I think i was almost as excite for that magma grill setup as you were! I have had one on my boat for many years and it still works great! Freshest fish is always cooked on it!
She's looking so much better, you're working wonders over there...you should watch Sailing Good Bad and Ugly, they just veneered their whole boat, and did an excellent job, after making all the mistakes you made, Matt is now a pro..
You haven't lived 'til you've BBQ'd on a boat. Way to go guy and gal. The boat looks amazing.
You guys are severely hyper motivated. I love watching you guys from Pennsylvania. I grew up on the water and now I'm landlocked. Keep the videos coming and don't sell that boat. Have many adventures good luck 🙏👍🤞
In Pennsylvania you're never more than two hours from some excellent open water--Lake Erie, Delaware Bay, Chesapeake Bay. But you are right, these guys are great motivators when you can't make it to those corners of the Commonwealth!
You have such a wonderful life and work hard for every second of it. Very inspiring.
From Tula, to Neverland, to Adrenaline, and now Mountain Myst, you guys sure do work hard. She is looking great!!!
Looking good kiddos! I love that bbq & grill😊 I also love watching you youngsters working with your hands. I’m very impressed with all the hands on hard work you have been putting into that boat and your pass camper☺️
It’s looking really nice, a far cry from day 1, congratulations!
Love the rope finish across the top of the laminate.
Y'all seem very chill. Different. Probably your best video but certainly not best content. Y'all must be feeling good. I have watched for quite a while and really loved this one.
The ultimate cruiser! Adventure awaits. Where to next? Can't wait to find out.
Formica tip use thin flat sticks to keep Formica off glue then as you adhere Formica take stick 1 out and so on every 2’ or so sticks are 1” wide x 1/4” thick x height of Formica area.
You guys are doing an awesome job. Love the new grill. A friend showed us how to make quicky pizza with using Naan bread as the crust. Just put your sauce and toppings and bam, you have pizza !
Works with a tortilla too! Perfect for a thin & crispy crust that's a bit lower in carbs. I toast it first just long enough to make sure it stays crisp once the toppings are all added.
What a life! You certainly worked for it.
Looking beautiful the sweat equity is paying off!!
Billy, you got yourself a winner there! She is a worker. We miss you guys here in Florida.
That is one happy dog!
Man what a nice grill gift box,,, thanks guys 👏👏👏👏👏👏
Hey guys great job! I just noticed the table on the boat. Interesting it’s identical to the one in our boat. We love it. I almost trashed it as I used it as a work bench as I was doing my restoration work. Glad I saved it. Our boat is a 1982 Atlantic Coastal Cruiser. Keep up the good work!
Fantastic! Stay Safe & Fair Winds!!
I first “met” you two in the Caribbean, then watched you sail down the west coast of Florida, then followed you in your RV, now in California….what an adventure….
Splendid....just splendid!! Love the look, inside and out. You are doing a heck of a job, congrats both!
Billy and Sierra, your boat is looking more and more beautiful! Do you ever take a break and fly back to Florida? Think of you both often. It looks like a beautiful day out there! Always enjoy watching your updates! Nice to see you both and Jetty!
Hi, you guys are doing a fabulous job on the boat, and the Formica looks really great, also the rope trim sets it all of, great looking grill to cook with, you'll be set to go in no time, please follow with the same color scheme throughout the boat it really looks bright and airy, wishing you all the best, Al
Looks awesome 😎
Oxymoron dogs. Organic, pasture-raised & Grass-fed. Perfect menu for launching the grill. Lobsters will come later after more renovation works I guess. You guys are turning this old boat into a fine ship. Incredible job. Bon appétit Sierra, Billy & Jetty!
Fun video thank you! reminds me of the many years I lived on a boat. Always something to do.
Amazing work, great video, I received my boat work t shirt, great quality!
Back In' the day our finish carpenters used old metal Venetian blinds to keep the formica from sticking together to the wood of countertop that they were gluing it to..... Is very little contact because the blinds only touch on the curve portion and on the two little sides that form in the back. I know there's not many that are made out of metal these days most of all of them are plastic and I would assume that it would work just as well as there is very little contact with the blind pieces which only touched in 3 small places. Also for templates they just slice up some thin old paneling into one inch strips and use a hot glue gun to glue the template together either on the countertop or the wall or whatever they are covering..... This case they usually putting down granite or quarts which is very expensive and has to be cut perfectly to fit the spot... But it would be a lot faster then popsicle sticks to make your template. Nice job you two have done with this boat...
23:46 Billy...You are NOT alone.
Sandra wanted to go to Cleveland on vacation.
But I’m the Husband, so we went to Cleveland.
Bob & "Pirata"
Really enjoy the “fix it up” and the longer videos. Live in Michigan. Our Bertram went into winter storage today. 😢 But gale warning tonight. 😅
I just found you guys and have watched a dozen episodes already. I’m looking to start trawling next year and its so informative watching you work on the boat. Keep going, you’re doing great. 😊
Ooo, so cool.👍
No matter how good you are at what you do you still show that you are still learning as you go and that is what makes it such a joy to watch you guys and keeps it real. Give yourselves a high five, well done.
Congratulations on the tremendous progress. I hope to untie and head south from New Hampshire to Florida next week.
The lovely learning curve with formica and laminates. Once you get it figured out it sure makes a huge difference on your project. That grill is awesome.
I’m not envious I promise, but wow what a makeover.👍😎👍
Rope trim was genius
TULA'S ENDLESS LOVE OF BOATWORK PROJECTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!😁🤣😷😜🤪😝 LOOKING GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Team Tula knocking it outta the park yet again! Nice job guys! keep rolling along and stay safe! 👍👍
It's just beautiful guys.
So glad you prefaced a couple of videos back that doing this process is a commitment. Saw people loose their boats to yards in the 80s. Really admire your tenacity. Thank you for sharing your journey!
I always look forward to watching your videos.
Wow your Galley looks great! 🥰😍
Rope trim..great idea and looks great!
I know these are catchup videos but it is nice to watch the process.
Job well done!
It is good to see a couple so committed and working so hard for the same end. The two of you are very fortunate to have that. For the grill because of fire concerns on a boat it is better on the rail.
Looks nice!
You are really getting it done and it looks Very Nice. I haven’t seen you guys since you got put in the water and you figured out what has wrong 😂 you got It ! Patience will prevail 😅
That grill was so nice you almost feel bad cooking on it
Should of talked to Matt with Sailing GBU, Larry Laminoto is an expert! #sailinggbu
The boat is looking really nice! For laminate use 3M FastBond 30 its water based and works great. Metal venetian blind slats work great as spacers to keep the sheet separated from the substrate until you get it positioned. Then just pull out the the slats one at a time as you roll the laminate into the substrate.
Ready to head up the coast!
You both have been doing an amazing job!! Everything is beautiful and the new grill is gorgeous!! Enjoy! I'm waiting for the orca too❤️🐳
Love the rope trim! Great idea Sierra!
Looking great nice job for me I would have not done it but you guys have done a amazing job and happy to see you finished up with so much and looks so good. we love ya.
When using contact adhesive you need to put slats in so it doesn't touch until you get it fitted. I like very small Venetian blinds that have been discarded you just have to clean them you put them in place you put your laminate in place and you pull them out starting in the center and have a j roller and roll it out.
Love the rope trim.
We've been remodeling a 1973 Bertram Motor Yacht (for five years) and man, have y'all given us a lot of ideas. The Formica looks great and you have sold us on doing that to cover our discolored wood. Enjoying this series of videos a lot!
You are an amazing team!! Wishing you the best of luck in your adventures and can’t wait to see them
Well DONE you’s guys… saving an “old girl” from desertion… ready for some new adventures… maybe in my old stomping ground… the Great Northwest… bring a jacket or two… 😉
Well Done! You've turned an old, dark Salon into a really bright, inviting space. FOUR THUMBS UP!
Looking like a Yacht again 😍
That's an awesome grill!
I thought I remember seeing several episodes where the decks have been painted and they looked nice and white.
Love it we’ll done
You guys are really doing a great job. I'm surprised at just how much you've accomplished in 8 months. Hope to see you out on the Bay soon.
I can’t speak for anyone but myself but I like all the new white look it’s much cleaner looking and not so old looking good job can’t wait to see it all finished 👍👍👍👍.And now hold up you can’t have hotdogs without onions 🥺
Gotta love Sierra…awesome narrator….and worker.
Great idea using the fender line for trim. 👍
Love the grill…..and Jetty eating invisible hot dog at the end. Lol
Boat looks beautiful !
Matt and Kristen on sailing GBU USED DOWL RODS VERTICALLY ABOUT EIGHT OF THEM THEN PULL OUT AS U STICK DOWN THE PANEL. JT HOOKED N ROLLING OFFSHORE 🇺🇸🇺🇸🐠🐟🎣🛥
LOOKING great
That grill set up is awesome. Please show us how well they work. U guys r a hardworking, patient cute couple🇨🇦
Looks great 👍🏻
