I was a commercial fisherman in the Atlantic from above Newfoundland and as far south to the Amazon..seen 30-40 ft seas and 100 +mph winds.I’ve told people the ocean can get as calm as a mill pond and they look at me like I’m crazy.glad you had such wonderful conditions!!

Grew up on the Outer Banks with commercial fishermen and boat builders in my family. I've seen the Atlantic from mild to wild. Like you said many a day I've seen as flat as flat can be, other days I've seen I was glad I was safely on the beach watching instead of out on it. People that look at you like your crazy just haven't spent enough time near the ocean.

The lee shore notoriously known as the Graveyard of the Pacific basically runs from Cape Mendocino to Cape Flattery on the tip of Washington. It then continues north up to the Gulf of Alaska. The weather you had for this voyage at this time of year was amazing.

A quick check of "windy" shows me a couple of weeks of continuous heavy storms from San Francisco all the way to Puget sound, which is normal for this time of year. If you can make it to Eureka and they have a slip(better check ahead, they usually have a waiting list) you might just stay there till April when the storms moderate. May would be even better. You couldn't pay me enough to make that passage at this time of year and I have done it both ways.
