I told you when you guys first started that you have the most infectious personality of all the videos I watch. I normally don't watch much of the upfit videos out there, but and that lucky guy of yours make them fun. Older, disabled so I live vicariously here in my home office in South Carolina. I wish I was in a better financial situation to help you guys in that way, but fixed income and groceries now about double doesn't leave much fun money. Love and Prayers to ya'll, I'll continue to like and comment to do my best help in that way.

Congrats on reaching this stage. As a thought, when the boat is ready to haul-across-the-water, take a trip to the Alameda boat yard that kicked you out. Ask to dock for an afternoon. Take a trip into town to allow them to see what you've done. Remember how inflexible they were in making you move. The quality of this new boat will rub it in.

Personally myself if would sift the sand onto the deck. You have more control on how it looks. If you mix the sand in with the paint. You don’t really know if it’s going to come out evenly when you apply it to the deck. 👍👍👍

My definitely cannot wait to see you guys out on the water again. At least this time you can point the boat in the direction you want to go and not worry about the wind. I have a cost more for gas but it is a lot easier to operate then your sailboat.

One idea when you realized you were running out of soft sand, might have been to mix the two different materials together for the transition area to hopefully make it less noticeable that two different products were used.

A reason for not using beach sand or dredged sand is to avoid any salt content which would cause spalling over time particularly at sea, which is avoided by using desert sand.

I've just done the deck/cabin top on my steel 34' Van De Stadt, everything has an epoxy primer and epoxy fairing compound on it, I used a water based automotive stone chip primer with sifted plaster sand, same technique as you did, one coat, add sand while wer and then three coats over that, I made a custom light grey mixing standard medium grey and white and it came out absolutely fantastic, it only cost me the princely sum of 80$ for the whole job, I used 15 litres in total. I painted the entire superstructure, toe rails and deck for less than two gallons of your rubber sand😎😎, epoxy primer, epoxy top coat and non skid for around 350$ total for a 34' monohull, the sh1t you do to save $ after buying a brand new hydrovane, new sails, new solar panels and victron charge controller/batteries, new pushpit, arch and Bimini frame, life raft, running rigging, cushions and upholstery, refrigeration, irridium satellite communications etc.etc.etc.etc.etc.etc,
Buy a boat they said, it'll be fun they said 😂😂😂😂😂

When laying down this kind of nonskid, it’s smart to do a light sanding after first coat of paint on top of the nonskid particles. Just to take of the most pointy parts, before you put down the next layers of paint. This will make it less aggressive on your feet, ropes and other equipment. And a lot easier to clean.

Congrats on getting the entire outside of the boat completely finished and painted. I was wondering what you are going to do about the engines? I believe that one isn't working if I remember correctly. I think it would be in your best interest to rebuild them from the heads up. Unless you have to pull the pistons and crankshaft. Make sure that you have brass freeze out plugs and do a new head gasket and timing chain. Plus a tune up and fresh oil and fluids.

pros it was easy to apply , simi cheap, multiple colors to choose from, cool to walk on and durable

By the time the non-skid needs to be repainted any paint will erode enough to recoat with a proper wash. A technique we use is roll on paint and with the non-skid particles dry in a spray gun dust an even coat on the wet paint. Topcoat soon as you can with your type of paint.

Wow so great to watch your videos as I learn so much about sailing as well as boat maintenance. When you talked about just using beach sand for the decks & straining out the contaminants, I think you would want to rinse it good with fresh water to get out most of the salt as that is a corrosive material. Just saying love your channel. Aloha!!

I think the real sand is a decent alternative. Years ago I removed deck paint by chipping / scraping. As the paint & sand mixture is a different strength and elasticity to the base material, it should be possible to scrape / chip off.

I would discourage the mixing the sand with the paint method. We did the inside deck of my brothers runabout that way and it was a major pain. It clumped up and left gobs on the edge of the rollers which would then drop of into the painted deck. It came out streaky. My dad did the deck of his boat when we were kids with crushed walnut shells by the sprinkle on method and it was easy and looked great and lasted for years.

Hey guys I love the show just be careful you have to use sand without minerals in it impurities if it's got iron in it it'll rust through your paint job and you'll never get the color of the rust out of the paint it'll be embedded forever.

T-shirt for each boat owned with places traveled on back. That would be cool

The rubber sand has no contaminants, other sands do, some sand has a mineral component like iron which may cause rust stains if exposed to salt!

I always used b each sand. Drilled holes in a bucket ,put 2 or 3 layers of screen and filled the bucket . Then shook it to let the sand filter thru. Worked for me...then I heard I should have washed it to get the salt out. Still didn't have a problem would I rebuild another one, yes but bigger
