Bonham is a BEAST on thistrack and jimmy laid down 8 guita tracks including an incredibly haunting solo
The song is relentless.
Jimmys playing and the layers of guitars he used are genius and to think Jimmy produced, recorded and mixed this entire album in 19 days!
It's exciting watching a youngin'' listen to a Led Zeppelin song for the first time (this song in particular, I know you've listened to others) This is probably one of my favorites by them, but then it's not easy to choose one favorite song by them...too many to choose from. By the way, the hair cut looks good kiddo 👍
Tea For One.......I've only ever seen one reaction to that song and it's brilliant
It's tracks like this that make led zeppelin not just a good band but an amazing epic band
Always loved the haunting intro & outro to this song. In between it just gallops along. A Zeppelin classic.
They were, are and WILL ALWAYS BE the ultimate rock band.
My favorite Zeppelin song. It just keeps going!
One of their best and least known. Masterful performance by all of them, proving they are one of the greatest bands of all time. Few can come close to this level.
Least known? Only to casual Zeppelin fans. Any true Zeppelin fan will have this in the Top Ten.
Check out the live version from Knebworth 1979. Bonham is Awesome
I know some people say Zeppelin wasn’t good on this night. But that is an Epic performance. Bonzo is ridiculous 🥁
@@yenlard6683 I believe your thinking of a different time they were at Knebworth for just a few songs and the sound stage was not that great.....This definitely does not apply to Led Zeppelin in concert 1979 split over two weekends. I was there for the 1st of the two, and they did 4 hours on stage ! Incredible ! - This track is available on dvd live Knebworth '79. It is stunning !
yes!!
@@yenlard6683 In this concert, after two years without playing together cause Robert,s young son died, Robert looks sad, Jimmy was in trouble whit the heroine, Bonzo with the alcohol, but their interpretations are amazing, absolutions amazing. Bonzo die the following year.
One of Zeppelin’s best songs, for another one, check out Nobody’s Fault but Mine from the same album.
Absolutely.... and be ready to compare/contrast Zeppelin's "Nobody's Fault But Mine" from the "Presence" LP with the later Plant/Page version.... czcams.com/video/Ki9qjHbTrrs/video.html
Yes...great choice!
No No No No Nooooo body's fault 😎
I totally agree with you that this song is one of the best song of Zep, and I think it is the best one later the 5th album. From Japan✌️
The only less than stellar song on that album, is NONE!
Great song by the ROCK GODS!!!!🔥🔥And that drumming RIP John Bonham. Never will anything like this come along. MASTER CLASS
Zeppelin played a six night stand at the LA Forum in ‘77. The third night of this run was a special night. Look up 6-23-77 LA Forum Zeppelin live on a search and you’ll find it. Achilles Last Stand from this night is truly incredible. Bonham’s drumming in that version will have you out of breath, even though you haven’t moved one bit. He was/is the best rock drummer of ever.
Has to go down as one of the group's greatest tracks.
What a song. What a band...and what a drummer! If you haven't yet, you will love "In My Time Of Dying", "Nobody's Fault But Mine" and "When The Levee Breaks".
The one and only Led Zeppelin. My GOATS! 😎👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This is definitely the greatest rock drum track ever laid down! It seems almost like they just let Bonzo go for 15 minutes and then built the overdubs around it, Lol!! absolute killer.
Most bootleg recordings from back in the day showed that Bonzo didn’t miss a beat, playing this one live.
In My Time Of Dying ?
I adore Achilles Last Stand. The drums just DRIVE it - perfection.
I'm here for the drum fill at 7:17 and all of the flourishes like it. You don't have to be told what band is playing to know that's John Bonham. So distinctive.
My favorite zep song. Thanks for the reaction.
one of their best!
Led Zeppelin has a ton of great songs. Have fun.
I love this album 🤩. . Listen to Tea for one.
I second that, definitely one of my many favorites
For your life
@@mansteinman Another great song
Song went over most listeners heads first time around. After listening again, and again the magic eventually works it’s way past our preconceptions. Magic. Grandkids will be listening to Zeppelin as is, or covered by other artists. Nice being ahead of curve.
Achilles Last Stand should be nicknamed the appoggiatura song - it's a matrix of appoggiaturas, musically. Page & JPJ structured this whole thing ingeniously with two note descending figures, mostly upper neighbor to main tone --- starting with the oscillating guitar intro. It's a masterly piece of riff economy.
Definitely my favorite zeppelin song!!
The 70's were the absolute pinnacle of Rock
Listen to this again in 40 years time and you'll STILL be dazzled! EPIC was a well-chosen description!
Reminds me of my Senior year at high school when I worked as substitute custodian for the high school. I would set up a record player in a locked room, run the cord to the speaker in the hallway and have this album playing as I cleaned my section of the school. Awesome.
Daniel, recently I have been working with another angel to suggest to reactors to always have a link to the original video and also have a link to the official YT channel for the artist. The best way to support the artist, is to verbally encourage your viewers to subscribe to the artist's YT channel along with yours. After all, without the artists, we would not have anything to react to. Of course we concentrate on reactions to Angelina since she is one of the most undervalued artists on CZcams.
You can't help but notice John Bonham. He's a beast on those drums. BTW....love the hair
Night Flight from Physical Graffiti is another mostly undiscovered Classic by Zep. Really some interesting stuff in it.
Yes Daniel, this is an “epic “ Zeppelin song but also under appreciated. Another epic and under appreciated song by Zeppelin is “In The Evening “ from the” In Through The Outdoor “ album. Great reaction and dissection Daniel. Peace and love from Toronto ✌️❤️🇨🇦
Underappreciated Zeppelin tune? How about "I'm Gonna Crawl" for another?
Always peace and love from us in Toronto!
We listened to this song as a team on the way to baseball games. Our manager said, if this doesn't get you up, you are already dead!
My favorite Zeppelin song....👍
Love the Led Zep songs that have that clear Plant voice! Like Jon Anderson, his voice makes the band unique.
Definitely one of Zeppelin's best!!!! "The Rain Song" is another masterpiece by Led Zeppelin. You should react to it.
Check out the studio version of *In My Time Of Dying* by Led Zeppelin.
Also, please react to *Jeff Buckley - BBC Late Show.*
Excellent song from the album Presence. Love it. ♥️🎼🎵🎶🇨🇦🇨🇦
Best song by Zep , thanks to the drumming and guitarwork🙂
Jimmy Page was a great producer, maybe even more than he was a guitar player. His mixes and layering of tracks is legendary.
Bonzo is just a beast on this.
Great reaction Tocayo.
✌️😎
hands down, my favorite Zep song.
There are 6 different guitars layered at one time on this track.
One of their best tracks EVER!
My favourite Zeppelin song. Peace.
Definitely my personal favorite led zep song, thanks for checking it out! Imo you should listen to the live version at Knebworth 1979
Isn’t this song so original?! What a riff!! Cool bro, thx for rockin us out to greatness!!!
Favorite on this album! It takes you there.
I loved this song while running, perfect pace maker
Seems like a Yes influence on that ascending bit.
I hear it too... Some of Page's guitar on it is reminiscent of Steve Howe.
Great video. This is definitely one of their greatest songs.
Great stuff... Robert Plant was in a wheelchair during the recording because of a car accident he was in.
For Your Life next!
A truly great song that just seems to get better every time you listen to it...there is also a great live version from their 1979 Knebworth show floating around on youtube
I always wanted to see a movie with this as background music for a wild high speed boat chase.
I stood up and cheered when I heard the Immigrant Song in Thor Ragnarok!
Fact: Led Zeppelin's music 🎶 is timeless.
Robert Plant was in a wheelchair during the recording of this album.
Loved it!!!! Thank you
Awesome instalment Daniel! Your reaction I believe was quite similar to my first listen, back in the late 70s. Nice to see good music still translates. Those drums, though, right?! Nobody’s Fault but Mine from this same album is a killer rocker, too. I love every single song on this album - a little different flavour than their other albums, yet still indisputably Led Zep. Tea for One is a beautiful blues tune on Presence, as well. Peace from Toronto
Trampled Underfoot, both studio and live at Earl's Court, 1975.
Jimmy Page at the time owned horses. And he would go to horse races. So he wanted to replicate the thunderous sounds of galloping horses.
What?? Jimmy never owned horses lol. You’ve got your history wrong.
@@OutOnTheTiles Yes he did. It was a tax write off. All the rock stars were doing odd things. He also owned an occult fantasy bookstore. It's also why they left England to record Presence. It's also why The Rolling Stones moved to France to record Exile On Main Street. They were tax exiles.
It's also why at one time Jimmy's political affiliation was Tory. I don't know if that's still true today though.
was bonzo actually getting better towards the end? usually you see allot of people peak in their early twenties but man bonzo was still pushing the limit right up until the end and its a damn shame we didnt see what he could have done if he had lived
I think they all were at this point.
This song live blows your mind! Check it out.
Hey Daniel ! Getting the Led Out !!
Zeppelin remasters are basically just a bit of hiss removal, no major chages
Oh yeah!! Live at Knebworth1979 was fabulous too!!
Definitely a great advantage to us now is the internet. When I was first listening to this song, I had no idea what Mr. Robert was singing, lol. I was an 11-12 year old kid who hadn't yet read Homer. The lyrics weren't included in the album sleeve, so all we could do was listen closely with headphones if we wanted to know the lyrics. I wasn't as interested in the lyrics as I was the guitars and drums, as I play those instruments, and at that time had just started. Great video!
this song shows how bonham was a master drummer
For some reason, I perceive this song as an "instrumental," in spite of there being a non-trivial amount of lyrical content. It's a great song.
Led Zeppelin didn't tour with a second guitarist during their 1977 North America tour. Actually, I don't think they ever toured with a second rhythm guitarist, only Jimmy Page on lead.
I thought some songs suffered BIG TIME especially during some of my favorite guitar sections that just weren't played.
However, this song, "Achilles Last Stand" was definitely the "standout" of their entire set at Madison Square Garden in June of 1977.
I was in attendance, I think, the 2nd night of their 6 night, sold out appearances in New York City.
The 4 of them were powerful, majestic, mind blowing, human Gods on stage. Simply unforgettable.
But yet, another touring band completely "blew them out of the water", 21 nights later.
South Phillys Spectrum, Pink Floyd during their, "In the Flesh" tour, promoting the "Animals" album.
What I judge and compare ALL concerts too. None have matched it that I've attended.
This album is always overlooked. Its an awesome album however.... One of my faves. Great reaction....👍🤘
Jimmy Page has said this is one of his works he's most proud of, to paraphrase his comments. Btw the "Object" on the Presence album cover was featured on Pawn Stars recently.
One of the best songs ever written. It's unreal musicianship.. Great upload
this is Page's best solo
Bonham knows what he is doing on drums. Phil Collins said John had the 'feel' very few could find.
The live version of this from Knebworth 1979 is amazing!
The haircut caught my eye first thing...looks good
THE DRUMS OH GAWD THE DRUMS
The band was going through difficult times then. Thus the album and especially this song are very important to Jimmy Page, who has often referred to them as a mind over matter - kind of achievement, describing exhausting mixing and last minute's recording sessions. Page asked The Rolling Stones for bit of extra time to finish off the guitar parts, as they had booked the studio after Zeppelin.
Love the haircut Daniel. Great choice! This album wasn’t well received by fans when released. But, luckily it finally took hold.
Nice to see you, Daniel
Zep and plant especially loved thelord of the rings books, theres several references in their music. Ramble on is basically the hobbits journey
This is their masterpiece in my opinion. Many other songs get way more attention but this album was a sleeper. Not nearly as big as other albums. Check out 'Tea for One' & 'Nobody's Fault But Mine' off this album too!
So I went up into an Alien spaceship and all I got was a haircut 👽
Yeah dude, you have to checkout Nobody;s Fault But Mine from this Album!
It sounds like Heart was inspired by this. It's like Baracuda. Those drums by John Bonham are fast and furious! Jimmy's guitar work! Only a rock legend!!! Then you got the bass working in with it! Robert's vocals are frosting on the cake! Zeppelin are the GOATS!! Great reaction Daniel! Hair's nice too !😊🎸🎶🎧
Either Ann or Nancy has told the story of the time they were on the same bill as Nazareth, and Manny Charlton suddenly burst in and accused them of stealing the riff from This Flight Tonight for Barracuda. After he ranted on for a while, either Ann or Nancy finally interrupted him and said, "Manny, we didn't steal your riff for Barracuda. We stole from Achilles' Last Stand". That shut him up.
@@russallert Thanks!
Fantastic 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
This entire album is John Bonham’s masterpiece.
I remember buying this album when it first came out, I couldn't wait to share it with my friends. Thanks for letting me share it along with you. This is my favorite track of the album.
Thank you!! Presence is my favorite Zep album and this is their best song. So much good sounds.
Lookin good!
I think you are ready to Graduate to Jazz Fusion... Try "Sea of Tranquility" by Bill Cobham. Total-Eclipse Album. Billy is a Drummer that has been on many albums and has over 10 great ones of his own. The man is one of the best Drummers you will ever hear. He was born with Sticks in his hands, and plays several songs with 4-sticks. The song requested is about the Location on the Moon... The Sea of Tranquility.
"Epic"? Well, if you're going to name a song "Achilles' last stand" it had damned well better be epic, and Zep never disappointed.
The Drumming and the Bass play is AMAZING! This track is so " Bouncy"!
I'd like to take this opportunity to, once again, remind you to, at some point, dive into the Canadian band Max Webster. This Zep tune lives in the same neighborhood as many things they did. When I hear this song, I'm somewhat reminded of "The Party" by Max Webster.
Wow and I thought I was the great defender of Canadian music on theses sites......you dug deep on this one..good old Max Webster.....Good job !
If you want to hear more Tolkien themed lyrics check out " Ramble on "
John Bonham kicks ass on this song thunderous, fast, drums doesn't get any better
same reaction i had 30 yrs ago
Great album! It also has Nobody's fault but mine, For your life and Tea for One, needless to say this album Presence rocks
Led Zepp is a great band to pay attention to the drummer.
