For people doing period correct builds and the bike has a clutchless shimano derailleur, you can use a zip tie around the pivot points in between the fin shaped thing and the hanger and cage. It works amazing for getting rid of chain slap and cost pennies
@@burningatthetrailhead Do you have images of that hack?
@@sp00n I could make a short later on today. I'm in Canada so I just woke up
Magic gloves on the valve cleaning video 😁
I think we need more videos like this they are just so fun!
Neil is a legend! The only reason I come back to GMBN after all these years!
This was probably the most helpful upload from GMBN all year. Thanks Neil!
Great tips from my favorite GMBN presenter. 👏 I've learned a lot just by watching how smooth you are on the DH.
Wow, really useful tricks. My favourite hack these days is using the plastic tool you get with a frame protector film, wrap it around a rag and use that to clean between the cogs of the cassette. Also: An even better tool to clean out tubeless valves is a straight pull spoke.
I do have a tip for removing the last few drops water from the bladder. Chuck it in the freezer and it will turn to ice. And easier to remove
These are all really good, thanks Neil!
Glad you like them!
The aerosol cap hack is a beautiful thing!
putting a penny (or similar sized coin) in the end of each grip prevents the end of the handlebar from punching thru the soft rubber grip end, in the event of a tip over
Wash and empty out the bladder then stick it in the freezer.
Or in the summer and you've been using water just stick the remaining in the freezer ( flat ) and you've got a nice cold ice block ready to add more water to.
The best 'hack' of the video is using the illy coffee can to hold spare parts ! (nice coffee too by the way 😋) 👍
Been doing the denture tablets for the bladders for years. Works well, just the next drink tastes a bit weird not matter how much you rinse it out. Love the chain cleaning tool. Word of the video 'Raz'.
Thanks for sharing!
My favorite chain cleaning hack is to cut a slice into a kitchen sponge. Soak it in a bit of cleaner, put the chain in the slit and crank it around. Works like a charm. :)
My favourite tubeless hack is to use inner tubes instead. Changing a tyre is no problem ;)
Yes. You still have to carry tubes and pumps so just stay on tubes.
Those are the most offensive yellow walls and I love them
This is the one hack video that is very helpful.
I use a shift wire to clean out the bladder hose. Stick in the pointy end, wrap a minimal cloth around the wire and pull the wire through. Basically it’s like cleaning a gun barrel.
Ditch Presta tubeless valves for Schrader valves. Much stronger and with bigger volume. They pump up and seal new tubeless tyres faster as they let much more air in. All you need is an 8mm drill bit and drill the rim to fit the bigger valve.
Unless you have carbon rims...
@@phorest I don't have them so can't be sure, but I strongly suspect that they'd be ok with that.
Pipe cleaner for the valves, they're basically long wires with a brush on them. You can also disassemble most of the valve cores, which can clog up themselves as well.
How do you disassemble the core?
Thanks Neil, some supa neat stuff there.
Glad you found this one useful, Gary! 👊
Lemon juice with a bit of water cleans hydration bladders really well. When not in use roll them up and store in the freezer. I have one that has been with me since I started racing my four wheeler as a kid so about 24 years now.
For cleaning out valve stems, household amonia works quite well. Soak overnight.
Thank u ....shared in our group:)
With the hydration bladder...store in the freezer between uses keeps it from going funky and growing mould and reduces the need to use denture/sterilising tabs so often
oops already mentioned further down
Mountain Bike Mustache's the cool new trend from GMBN 😂
on the trail I have used a 2mil allen key to bore out a clogged stem - worked good!
Great video 😃 All the hacks are awesome 😎😎 it's always nice to learn something new ❤
Probably a good idea to start the disc rotor bolts by hand 1st to prevent cross threading them and ruining your hub by trying to save a few seconds of time. Proper tools and smaller quarter inch drive socket set with a 1/4 inch socket on the end will fit the torx bits and allen key bits used elsewhere on your bike too and using the T bar and long extension to crack them and spin them loose using the shaft makes this job pretty quick anyway. I did like the recycled toothbrush hack though keep up the good work on these vids.
Cheers boys 🍻
Use the Allen key trick in automotive applications all the time. Chevy is notorious for 17mm drain plugs on their transmissions. We use the same trick. You'd be amazed how much torque you can apply. While I agree that I wouldn't do it on soft aluminum parts like pivot bolts, it's not bodge, this is a commonly used hack and it works with allenhead sockets you can even torque to spec. I cut off a 7 mm Allen key and use a 10 mm 3/8" drive Allen socket to torque to specs. It works just fine. I have never tried it on soft metal though so avoiding the soft metal parts is probably a good idea. Would probably work just fine but it's probably for the best to avoid that situation if at all possible.
Thank you, really very useful tips! I had never heard about the dead cat for gopro.... V cool
Nice tips. Hadn't thought of the aerosol can cap for scraping out sealant from a tire.
I like to use an old spoke in valve stems, the threads on the spoke helps to scrape off the sealant and the usually flat end helps similarly. I have even ground the tip flat more than what it is from the factory to get more of a scraper effect in the stem tube. But haven't thought to use a solvent, so will definitely try that too.
Old spokes are so useful - make a pick, a little hook, and a little scraper out of them.
Thanks Neil for those tips bro, 👍🏾🙏
No problem 👍
All good suggestions... gopro make a rubber protection case that also cuts wind noise really well as a bonus on top of the protection and u can see both screens/led
Well done👌
very good video. Keep up
Use a presta value where you can remove the core and has hole straight through and use a syringe and tube to suck out the tubeless sealant when changing the tire. Also great way to check how much fluid is left in the tire before I add more. And I do not need to dismount the tire to add more as well.
Neil’s bike hacks! 👍
I love the tooth brush hack amazing way to clean the chain love the videos I'm still using old fashion tyre and Inn tube. I'm liking the hack about the tubeless one sweet video..
The brushes don't last very long though, probably also depends on their stiffness. If you use soft ones, they will be bent after a few uses. And buying stiff ones wouldn't be free anymore.
@@sp00n at least it's then just getting oil all over place more control on cleaning so happy days pal.
Good vid Neil. Sone new hacks in there.
Thanks, Bruce! Neil has some great hacks!
hydration packs, remove all air + only use water - doesn't go mouldy!
Nice 👍🏽
Parktool syringe works great (if you can find one in stock...), then I finish with the aerosol lid.
Good hacks!!!
Seth, you've changed! 😉
To prevent your bladder from getting too gross, store it (empty) in the freezer. Mold can't grow in frozen conditions.
Rc drone battery straps work well for tools ..
I use my small hex key to clean out the tubeless valve stems.
You got those black gloves on and off quick Neil 😆 good hacks though
magic gloves appear at 2:01 :)
It's called the chuck or collet, I believe.
How do you change gloves so fast
Rice cooker measuring cup works as well … in lieu of a cap
one of my dreams is to have my own bicycle garage
Was using a jigsaw on my new dh bike the other day to cut the seat post down, it sucked and a hack saw was way easier
2mm Allen key to clean valves.
Put your hydration pack in the freezer.
Put the sealant in a tube. Boom, no mess. Lol
Hey Neil.
Some great "hacks" there. I think you might make Muc-Off go out of business 😂😂
Covers for GoPro do the trick, but I wouldn't recommend them in hot weather, cuz cameras tend to overhead and freeze.
My favourite hack is tubes
change the tyre outside or in the garage!!! :-)
I rinse the water bladder out then place in the freezer, no drying required, no mould, icky black bits or smell, ready to use for next time.
those tires are soo much easier to get of the rim than my 27,5 x 2,8 tires
Thats why U use Hacks to get Them Off easy👍
Hydro packs... if you ride often, no need to clean or dry... just dump, and store in freezer. Then monthly, I'll clean and dry.. even then, it goes back in the freezer for storage. Zero growth and zero funk!
Do the first one with really used tire. Wont go as easy m8...
15th comment yeah dude
Congrats, Joe! 😅👊
Stop advertising Amazon🤬
Hack for bladder is to keep it in the freezer when not in use👍🏼
Hacks and bodges be like
Better tip for water res is keep it filled and in the Fridge , replace the water once a week
For
just pour the sealant out of the new tire into a cup.........
This is a little bit different, but kinda the same!
Wish I could develop a hack for removing those annoying as F naff "whoosh" malcolm in the middle noises between scenes that ruin the vids(....and on GCN)..... why not have a poll and ask the viewers whether they should be ditched?
Hey guys is this message below legit??? I think it is fraud

Wtf????? You stole my tricks
This are not hacks, it is more IQ test...
You totally poached the "bike hacks" idea. Lame.
Its a common thing wtf is wrong with u tho
For the "disc bolt removal hack" i suggest using Center Lock :)) Makes your life 0.1% happier, especially if you're your family's personal mechanic. (it's fact, not a joke!)
Niels got the best tips
Absolutely! Glad you found them useful! 👊
