This was the first (console) video game I ever played, and it's now considered by many to be the best game of all time. As someone who literally grew up with this game, it's crazy to imagine what it would have been like to experience this game through the eyes of someone who had only ever played the 2D games like A Link to the Past. Seeing a commercial like this gives a glimpse of the anticipation people must have had for a 3D adventure like this
Same here, I had play some SNES on friend's and relative's houses, also had a game boy with few games. But this, THIS, was my very first game (alongside goldenye). Kind of a top tier to begin with!!!
I was already addicted to video games with NES, SNES and GameBoy, and Sega Genesis, but when the 3D era began, this game in particular changed my life. Not only it became my favorite game of all time, surpassing even ALttP, but it even influenced my career, lol. This TV commercial is completely ingrained in my memory.
Its crazy to think that when this video was uploaded, Ocarina of Time was only about 7- 8 years old and twilight princess hadnt released yet..now its been 22 years since OOT.
Me, too! 7 in 1998, got OoT, MarioKart64 and an N64 for Xmas. This was my first game console and first videogames (I'd played some stuff on PS1 at a friend's house but that's it). My older brother tied me to a door with a jump rope and made me watch him play until our parents got home. It was torture. For context he's 19 years older than me lmao what a d*ck. That day was still one of the best ever. This videogame impacted how I'd grow to perceive the world: help people, be brave, do the right thing, always get back up. Just replayed it less than a month ago and was still incredibly moved. OoT is a timeless masterpiece that forever altered the world of gaming. Sorry to ramble! You just made me remember that day so much with your comment
Dude, just because you liked this game when you were a kid or whatever, doesn't mean it's as good as it was in 1998. This game has aged horribly, and unless you've been living under a rock for a decade, then you're just too ignorant to accept there are much better games out there.
+Sawneek Bagelboner i remember seeing this commercial when I was in 7th grade. I was so fucking excited for this shit I was ready to commit homicide to get my hands on a 64 and Ocarina of Time. It may be partially because I'm older now but with all the new consoles coming out and the games with the pixels and the teraflops I cant say I am really excited to get my hands on them. The problem is the video game market is so saturated. Its hard to get impressed these days.
I came home from school one day when I was like 5 and saw my dad watching this 'movie' on the TV, and it took me a while before I found out he was actually playing a game. My mom made the same mistake. ^^;
I remember pre-ordering this back in 1998. I got the gold cartridge and it cost me $70 ! Easily one of my favorite games. This franchise is a very memorable part of my childhood; I was instantly hooked with the release of the original Legend of Zelda on the NES. Thank you Shigeru Miyamoto; you sir are a genius.
I was about 17 when this game came out. I played this and Goldeneye almost non-stop. I recently got this again for the Wii VC. Consistently rated one of the best video games of all time on any system. And with good reason. I'll never forget how it felt when I first played this. Absolute magic.
I never thought I'd see this again. I remember Nintendo mailing my family a VHS tape of several trailers before the Launch of the N64 including Star Fox, OOT, and Mario 64. This was the trailer on there I think, that's awesome.
This basically was my childhood. I remember the first time looking at the games box when I got it around the time it came out, I was young and my dad played it and I watched him till he finished it and then I played and the both of us finished it together. I cry in the ending every time haha great memories. I love The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time and all the others because they all gave me the same great feeling, experience, and memories! :)
I wish I wasn't 5 when this came out. It would have probably been one of the most epic moments in my entire life to have seen this comercial for the first time.
Played this as a kid regularly at a friends house but never got much further than clearing saving the Deku Tree because I was so young. Got it on the 3DS and just finished the Fire Temple today, haven't had this much fun with a game in years. This may very well be the best game ever.
KIllahRay1. Woth all the fucking switches, leveling water and shit it is hard as fuck. If anything could be harder than the Water Temple I'd have to be the shadow. The easiest is the grass or fire. temple. What is the hardest temple to you?
This is the first game I ever beat and it was back in 1999 (same year it took the game of the year award) I was 9 years old !! And I'm very proud to say that this is my #1 favorite game of all time and I'm sure no game would ever take that spot.
Even as a baby, this commercial stick to my mind, making it one of my earliest memories. Until I was in elementary school and my brother shown me the Conan movies, for the longest time, I associated the Riders of Doom music as Zelda music.
I remember watching this promo video in a toys ´r´us store when I was a teenager, this was the first game I got for the n64, such good memories of it, thanks, the music and the video are epic.
Even with breath of the Wild being the game of the year of 2020, Ocarina of Time still remain Superior in the Zelda franchise. What a iconic video game about one of the most iconic Heroes of Link that happens to be the most tragic.
Arguably the greatest game of all time. Revolutionary adventure game that was incredibly complex, emotional, entertaining, and unavoidably enticing. Truly ahead of its time.
When he was exploring a cave and came across a famous statue that had a legend behind it. The legend was about a man who made his way through the cave to a subterranean lake that was the home to a dragon. This dragon, seeing that the man was a worthy man, presented him with three of his scales. One from his arm representing Power, another from his forehead representing Wisdom, and another from his chest representing Courage. The three scales combined look like the Triforce. It's funny that this commercial has over a million views, and yet youtube came out like ten years (or more) after this game... STILL A FUCKING GREAT GAME
I could not agree more. Even now I enjoy it with all my heart. And Zelda 3D is made me remember why I loved it so much. I even finishged the horror of the watertemple, whose redesign (lookwise only, mind you) made it somewhat easier for me to go through it, even as the first temple for me to finish.
I pity who didn't witnessed Christmas 98, that was the best time to be an hardcore gamer..after a year of groundbreaking releases (Metal Gear Solid, Xenogears, Parasite eve, Unreal, Resident Evil 2 etc etc) we had a Christmas with three of the most influencial games in history: Zelda OOT, Baldur's Gate and Half Life..and in the same time the Dreamcast was released in Japan and sold by import videogames stores.
i remember in 98 i think it was in australia when they played the zelda commercial they used to play it side by side with the banjo kazooie ad and i thought banjo kazooie was zelda XD
I'm not the biggest video game person, but when I saw this ad years ago I did everything I could to buy a Nintendo 64 and this game, which I played the everlasting shit out of. One of my favorite video games. Then I learned the music was from 'Conan the Barbarian', so I had to see it, and have seen it a million times. One of my favorite movies. Clearly, this commercial had an impact.
Thank you Twilight 13, this game has totally captivated me. Yes, I have played all the games, except Twlight Princess. I keep coming back to TOOT. My two older brothers got it around when it came out and I first started playing it when I was two but I am 14 as well. This will be forever my favorite game.
"Wilst thou soar? Or wilst thou suck."
Pfft. Please.
I don't suck until Master Quest.
I beat Maser Quest quite easily... except the spirit temple.
I beat master Quest in a Week
The Gaming Stone
Me too. Spirit temple was the "hardest" temple in MQ imo
Yeah
@@nimugonz9226 The Water temple is actually easier in master quest.
109 people are still stuck in the Water Temple
fluffynoses i passed the water temple and it wasn't that hard it's just puzzles a lazy boss and skulltulas
This is creepy- I’m the 109th person to upvote this...
Wow, after 6 years, only 11 more people are stuck in the water temple.
🤣😅🤣😅
They deserve to be left behind. Defeat morpha or return the master sword lol.
Rated "W" for 'Water Temple."
I love the Water Temple. No joke. It's one of my favorite dungeons.
Haha
Yeah, like W-here is the fucking last key 😄
@@andrewburch3694 You're insane haha
😆
This is the game that changed gaming.
The song in this commercial is "Riddle of steel", by Basil Poledouris. From the film "Conan the Barbarian".
Such an awesome song.
no way they actually wrote down “or will you suck“
It was the 90s. This is what video game commercials back then were like
@midget-terminated-sausage I actually saw that version of the ad on TV once. I'm still trying to find a copy of that version of the ad on CZcams.
Kind of remember there was an original version that said somenthing like.. " of will you fight like a girl" some like that!!
@@muzcapapillon I'm pretty sure it was will you save the girl or play like one
To be fair, it was for kids.
20 years after, is a legend in the world of the videogames

I saw this commercial in the movie theater before it first came out. It was f**kin amazing.
I remember seeing this on TV, mind blown greatest game ever

12 years after its release and no game has been able to surpass its glory. Long live the best game of all time.
Try 25
I remember seeing this commercial and thinking "Whoah look how awesome graphics have become"
Epic commercial for an epic game!
Its crazy to think that when this video was uploaded, Ocarina of Time was only about 7- 8 years old and twilight princess hadnt released yet..now its been 22 years since OOT.
I still get chills when I see this commercial. Zelda: Ocarina of Time is still one of the best video games of all time. True masterpiece!!!
Got the game in 1998 when I was 7 (best Christmas ever), here I am now almost 20 and I still love the game and play it occasionally.

DAMMIT, I FEEL OLD NOW!
Still to date, one of the most fantastic games of all time.
I will forever love this game. A great source of action, adventure, rpg, and nostalgia. :)
I came home from school one day when I was like 5 and saw my dad watching this 'movie' on the TV, and it took me a while before I found out he was actually playing a game. My mom made the same mistake. ^^;
When I first played this it was for me, the gaming equivalent of when I first saw Star Wars in 1977. Still the best game ever imo.

By far the best video game of all time, so much nostalgia!
Didn't they also use this music for the Twilight Princess E3 trailer?
Neko Michi yup
And Wind Waker
no game will ever touch this masterpiece. anybody who has ever played it will understand
Best game ever
@long dixxcxx What do you mean
Best video game commercial ever!
I was about 17 when this game came out. I played this and Goldeneye almost non-stop. I recently got this again for the Wii VC.
Consistently rated one of the best video games of all time on any system. And with good reason.
I'll never forget how it felt when I first played this.

this commercial is mind blowing I can't imagine how mind blowing it would be at that time
Happy 20th Anniversary OOT!
My first video game i've played.
was this comment just for the likes ? or are you serious ?
SWEET FUCKING HELL I swear NO other vid, 240p or otherwise, gets me pumped like this one. And when the sword hits the stone? Chills. Fucking awesome.
It's been said that OoT was essentially a walking patent office on new gameplay concepts and mechanisms.
...and in the end
willst thou get the girl...
...or play like one? :D:D
Bta young zelda had giant ears!😀😃😄😁😆😂🤣

Happy 25th Anniversary, Ocarina Of Time.
Conan!
They clearly meant "succ"
Ah ocarina of time, good memories. i've beaten it countless times. still play it time to time.
Played this as a kid regularly at a friends house but never got much further than clearing saving the Deku Tree because I was so young.
Got it on the 3DS and just finished the Fire Temple today, haven't had this much fun with a game in years.
This may very well be the best game ever.
Water temple is the easiest in the game
KIllahRay1. In OoT? Are you joking! It's probably the most annoying and hardest temple in the game.
-_- not even
KIllahRay1. Woth all the fucking switches, leveling water and shit it is hard as fuck. If anything could be harder than the Water Temple I'd have to be the shadow. The easiest is the grass or fire. temple. What is the hardest temple to you?
I honestly thought it was easy had no problems with it lol
KIllahRay1. So what is the hardest temple to you?
why the old english
Why not?
Tobey Starburst
i don't know...great deku tree uses it.
OtakuGamer789 because (yeah just like JENOVA said) Ocarina of Time takes place in medieval times

Thats not only a game, thats something that should be put on a top 100 pieces of art list.
Good god this video is 10 years old already...
10? almost 20

I am so adopting that into my everyday vocabulary.
I remember seeing this around christmas when I was like in 3rd grade, better than any game commercials I've seen. almost movie epic level.
This video released a couple days before I was born
Happy 25th, you fantastic series!
Somewhere there is a HD version of this commercial.
One of the best video game commercials of all time turned out to be one of the best video games of all time
Lol "Whillst thou soar? Or whillst thou suck?" Best game advert ever!
Damn. I remember downloading this commercial on limewire.
Bestest game ever!
"Willst thou soar, or willst thou suck?"

I'm glad this game was created, without it my childhood would've been dark indeed
Setting this commercial to "Riders of Doom" was probably one of the best decisions that Nintendo ever made.
Am I the only one that almost cries when I think back when I used to play this as a kid? :'(
This commercial got etched in my memory.
Oh how I wish I could go back in time and play this game for the first time again.
Love how they recreated the trailer for the 3DS version!
Today they released a shot-for-shot remake of this commercial to download for free from the 3DS's eShop.
As a kid, this was the most epic shit I had ever seen. That was a good christmas.
It's funny that this commercial has over a million views, and yet youtube came out like ten years (or more) after this game... STILL A FUCKING GREAT GAME
There will never... ever.... ever... be something like this.
I like the ending "will u soar? Or will u suck?" XD
"Get Nintendo 64 or get out"
now that's persuasive advertising
I could not agree more.
Even now I enjoy it with all my heart.

We will never forget this u_u
This game, and this game alone was truly the best Zelda game ever made.
The first Zelda game I've ever played (I was a Sega boy)... Good memories...
