    Just requested to join the group. I'm 6ft 3in and started at 550 lbs. I'm now 412 this morning with intermittent fasting. It's not lost on me that you started at 6ft2in 414 if I remember correctly. Kinda cool I found your channel and seems that you started right where I am now. I feel re-energized and ready. Today is my first day of what I hope is my new ADF protocol after a long time doing OMAD. I did 42 hours and getting ready to do ADF tomorrow. Thank you for putting this info out. I'm also pairing this with a pretty much all carnivore lifestyle, although I unrepentantly will have an occasional carb and don't really care to hide it. 😂 So long as I eat clean 95 percent of the time, I'm cool with that.

      Thank you for sharing. You should be VERY proud of your progress. I have no doubt that your health has already proved in many ways.
      I have transitioned to Ketovore over time, but one of my next 2 videos will be about a Carnivore experiment that I have been doing. I am being super strict/clean because I want to give it the chance to deal with some inflammation that still plagues me. If not, I will go back to Ketovore. I have felt really good on it and it is way more sustainable for me
      I look forward to hearing how ADF goes for you :)

      Thank you for the kind words. I understand and think that avoiding social media is a great idea overall. I cut it out completely for over a year. I only use Facebook, and only use it for groups. I am too easily sucked into the feed if I allow it.
      For me it is podcasts. I love and devour podcasts. I walk a little over an hour a day, and I commute for work. I also listen to them on double speed, so I log a lot of podcast hours in a week :)

    I found your videos 3 weeks ago and have watched every one. I'm 5'6" and was 214 lbs. I had just eliminated added sugars from my diet and the idea of fasting seemed impossible. How wrong I was! I just finished my first complete week of ADF and I lost 5+ lbs, took 1" off my neck and waist, and 1.5" off my hips. My blood pressure is improving, my sleep is improving. I have no hunger issues on fast days, probably because I am off sugar and eat lots of fiber and only complex carbs. I have about 80lbs to lose and this is the way I will do it. Thank you, thank you, thank you!.

      Hearing this just made my day. Congrats on your great start! I love hearing about weight loss, but health improvements (blood pressure, sleep, etc) and the fact that you feel in complete control matter even more. You CAN do this!

    I appreciate your getting back to people so much--not something you need to do, but just great. Now 8 months in with IF--alternate day fasting and some longer fasts thrown in--I am down almost 90 lbs. I was never able to do this just cutting calories. Thanks so much for your support!

    Your channel, attitude, and compassion inspires me. Thank you for making content. Had left a comment a couple? weeks back, still holding strong. Almost 20lb down now since I've started weighing myself again. Largely using a modified diet based off your recommendations, and it's been holding great so far.
    300-500 calories on my "fast" days, 800-1000 on my feed days during that meal. Have gone to about 15 grams of carbs for that one meal. Finding it's easier to stay in keto with only one meal, not having to break up the small amount of carb intake and can "indulge" ever so slightly.
    Did almost a week of full 47 hours fasts, with 0 calorie intake(just water) between meals... and felt pretty bad. I want to try again now that my body feels more fat adapted and been in ketosis for a while. Though am just happy that this /modified/ keto fasting diet is working and feels sustainable a month or so in.
    Cheese, almonds, and beef sticks have become the life blood of snacks if/when I absolutely need to fill a craving and water alone isn't cutting it. Feeling great and pushing forward. Sent a request to join the facebook group!

      There are a lot of purists out there, but I work with so many people that are doing great with the modified ADF approach.
      It sound like you are hitting your stride. I love to hear it. Just keep tweaking things, and trying different plans, until you find what works best for you. That is all that matters in the end :)
      I can't wait to hear your next progress report

    Oh man I have Facebook but never think to use it. This seems like a good reason to start :) I love how you word the reasons why you do this. I think this can be felt by everyone who has the privilege to see your videos. The fact that you always remind us that everything can be modified because you’d rather us be successful than quit, the way you take so much time to research everything you bring to the discussion….too many things to list. I am on my third week of ADF- something I did not even realize was a thing until I found you. I’m not only at a new low for weight but I feel more powerful than ever! Video idea if you think it’d be useful-you mentioned how you got off of medications with your new lifestyle…when I started this wellness journey in December 22 I was 50lbs heavier and I am still on two bp meds. Did your doc approach you with removing meds or did you approach them? Just trying to figure out how to know when it’s right to come off of something… thank you again!!

    • @GrowGrayMatter

      Wow. Thank you so much for the kind words. You truly made my day. I work really hard, but it is worth every second because I know that it is making a difference to you and people like you :).
      I am super pumped to hear that you are doing well with ADF. It is a powerful therapy as much as it is a diet. It changed every cell in my body for sure.
      As far as your BP meds, here is how it went for me. I track my blood pressure, so I did see that it was trending down. But in the end I needed to lower my dose when I started getting lightheaded when I stood up. I was actually worried that it was a side effect of fasting, but fasting was helping drop my blood pressure too quickly. This was when my doc took me off one of my meds and lowered the dose of the other. Several months later I had the same issue again. That is when my doc took me off it completely.
      I hope that this helps. Thanks again for the kind words. It means the world to me.

    first off i’d like to thank you. i found out about adf through your channel about a month ago and since then i’ve lost 13 pounds. but i’m pretty worried about my metabolism slowing down through adaptive thermogenesis. i know my metabolism will slow naturally due to my body weight decreasing. but i’m worried about losing the ability to lose more weight by dieting too long. i’m planning on taking a break in about 5 days for a week. what are your thoughts?

    • @GrowGrayMatter
      @GrowGrayMatter  Před 11 měsíci +2

      Thank you for sharing. Congrats on your progress :)
      One of the reasons that I like ADF is that I feel like you get to give your body a lot of mini-breaks from dieting as long as you are eating enough on your eating days.
      Here is a video with some of my thoughts on that topic:
      czcams.com/video/t8WGN9v34C4/video.html
      Also, my recent 7 part series on losing fat without losing lean mass will be a big help as well. Make sure you follow all of those "rules" if you went to prevent a drop in your metabolic rate (as much as possible). I had a lot of weight to lose, but I was able to increase my metabolic rate by 181 calories per day while losing 165 pounds of fat. It is possible as long as you pull all the right levers :).
      I actually like the idea of taking diet breaks whenever you start to feel run down, or are showing signs that you have been dieting too aggressively. Maintaining weight loss is a skill. There is nothing wrong with practicing it along the way. Here is a video where I talk about my first diet break:
      czcams.com/video/mQHl_Uo16Sg/video.html
      I hope this helps. Keep up the great work!

    Excellent, like 70 my friend!
    I think the facebook group is a huge new idea where people can help each other.
    Yes we miss your videos I hope you can record more often
    Thanks for always trying to answer
    This week results:
    Weight 86.9 - 86.2 700 grms
    Weist 83 - 82 cm
    Hip 90 - 89 cm
    Neck 38 - 38 same
    Love handles 96 - 95
    Leg 59 - 59 cm same
    Glutes 103 - 102 cm
    Back/ chest 105 - 105 same
    Chest 53 - 54 cm up 1 cm
    Well those are my results, I had had 2 weeks in a row losing 1 kilogram but this week i only lost 700 grms Im not happy about it. I think the reason is that i went twice to the movies so I ate more popcorn this week. So my questoon is should i quit popcorn when i go to the movies if i want to lose more weight? Literally it is the only junk food that I eat.
    Second my chest went up 1 cm, do you think it means i am gaining muscle on my chest ?
    Now i am committed to do 1 hour of stationary bike every day but i have some extra energy some days and i dont do 1 hour i do 1 hours and a half do you think it is Ok?
    Thanks friend!

    • @GrowGrayMatter
      @GrowGrayMatter  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Congrats on your amazing progress recently. 700 grams is still really good. Weight loss is not typically a straight line no matter how much we wish it was. I did a 36 hours fast last week and I somehow gained 0.2 pounds (91 grams).
      Everything is a trade-off. You will lose more weight if you stop eating the popcorn, but I don't want to see you get so strict that you can't stick to the plan for the long-term. I know that your movie/popcorn time adds joy to your life. You will have to decide if you really want to give that up or not.
      It sounds like you are adding some muscle. This is great news. It is boosting your metabolic rate and will make it much more likely that your weight loss will be permanent. Keep it up!
      As far as adding cardio, I don't see a problem with doing more as long as you feel good and it isn't draining you.
      Keep up the great work!

    two questions: do you have any stretch marks from losing all that weight? 2: what areas of your body did you notice the fat disappearing from first?

    • @GrowGrayMatter
      @GrowGrayMatter  Před 11 měsíci +2

      Good questions. I do have some stretch marks and some loose skin. It is unavoidable for the huge majority of people who lose 165 pounds in a year. It doesn't hold me back at all. I wear it as a badge of honor more than anything. I would much rather have stretch marks than weigh 400 pounds :).
      I lost weight very quickly (49 pounds in the first 10 weeks) so I was losing weight from everywhere all of the time. I would say I visibly noticed it in my face and waist first, though.
      I hope this helps :)

    Do you think if I am doing OMAD, 1 banana is a waste of nutrition balance. Can you eliminate 100% sugar safely, or not

    • @GrowGrayMatter
      @GrowGrayMatter  Před 11 měsíci +2

      It totally depends on what type of diet you want to eat, and how you feel when you eat it. Plenty of healthy people enjoy bananas. So it is certainly possible.
      But I do much better when I stay pretty low carb, so they are a no-go for me. Low-carb/keto is not for everyone, but the majority of people I work with generally find that fasting and low-carb go really well together.
      Can you eliminate 100% of sugar safely? The answer is yes. There are no essential carbohydrates in the diet because your body can make them through the process of gluconeogenesis. I go long periods of time where I eat less than 10 carbs a day and I feel great.
      I will make lots of videos about low-carb and keto diets next year. It will be my main topic once I am done with my current project on increasing physical activity. Stay tuned!
      Let me know if you have any other questions.
