Dracaena Masoniana, synonym Sansevieria Masoniana, is a species of Dracaena native to Africa and originally collected in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It was initially known in cultivation under the cultivar name 'Mason Congo'. Commonly grown as a houseplant for its striking foliage, it can survive in bright filtered light or shade and with infrequent watering. Often grown as a single large, stiff leaf in pots, the plant's other common names include "whale fin" or "shark's fin".
    Family : Dracaenaceae
    Family (APGIII) : ASPARAGACEAE
    Protologue : J. Cact. Succ. Soc. Amer. 72(1): 31 (2000)
Information on the genus : Sansevieria
How do you grow Sansevieria Masoniana?
Ideally, the sansevieria should be planted in a cactus mix as opposed to a soil which contains too much organic matter. The succulent should only be fertilised once a month or so during the summer. Too much fertiliser can cause the leaves of the plant to fall over.
How do you care for a whale fin plant?
Although it can tolerate quite a bit of neglect and extended dry periods between watering, try not to wait terribly long after the soil has dried out before watering again. Your Whale Fin likes soil to grow in soil that dries out fairly quickly in between watering.
    How do you propagate Sansevieria?
How to propagate Sansevieria leaf cuttings in soil. Cut off a healthy Snake plant leaf near its base, let the cut surface dry and heal for 1-2 days. Plant the cuttings in potting soil. Water well and let drain.
