This is a great quick video on foot valves, thanks! I've run into people who suggest that a backflow preventer (out of the water) also be used with a foot valve. But you're suggesting that a foot valve is taking care of the backflow already. Is there a reason you'd ALSO use a check valve (perhaps closer to the pump)?

Thanks! Yes, you could add a check valve near the pump, that won’t cause a problem.
Having a backflow preventer doesn’t have a purpose when pumping from a pond, lake, etc. as the purpose of a backflow is to prevent contamination of a potable water source, such as a municipal water source, or a well.

I don’t have any experience in that area but I would imagine there is something similar.

I have been losing water pressure and had the pump/pressure tank and switch checked. Had the valve checked and replaced but it was all good. Now there is no water at all being pumped. Do I not have to prime the line if the valve has been replaced? My line is over 300'.

Could be a few things. Yes, check prime. Is it possible there is a break in the line, and the pump can’t keep up?

Does it matter if my foot valve is more horizontal than vertical in the lake?

If it is a spring type, like in the video, it can be at any angle. If it’s a flap type, it should vertical, because it’s needs gravity to close.

What devices can be added to a foot valve assembly in a pond to keep debris off the screen and away from the pick up? I have heard of a device that spins using pressurized water diverted from the up stream pump water (similar to how a spin-clean filter system is operated), but cannot find any information.

I don’t know specifically, but it is a good idea to keep the foot valve off the bottom. I have seen intakes that resemble a PVC drain pipe with holes drilled in it. I have also seen floating intakes.
I’ll try to remember what the PVC drain pipe intake is called, if I recall, it’s on a ski/skid you slide into the water.

So I have put a 275 gal Potable Water tank in Basement for Artesian water , I have everything needed to get it set up for added Faucet on Kitchen sink , and Im like OK where to put Check Valve ? Before or After Transfer Pump , So i thought id put it near pump inlet , so when pump shuts off it will stay primed , tho im thinking what about the water in line before CV , it goes back up (4’) curves to center of top tank and drops into tank 3.5’
So im like Wont that water before CV seep back into tank Leaving air in line , Is how i came to Your Video here ,
Not sure if i really need to just move CV all the way down line into tank where its underwater 24/7 ….. tia for any feedback

@@Andy_Humphrey ok so in my learning process , i have Wrong style Pump. What i need is a pump thats controlled by a Pressure switch … then No need of Check Valves of Foot values that work on sump pumps
