What is A Foot Valve or Check Valve? | SprinklerSupplyStore.com
Does one need to push down the metal sleeve and turn or while it’s in its up position? If up, what is its function of pushing down
looking for a normally open valve / master shut off.
The Irritrol 102P2 can be configured as Normally Open. Aldo check Superior valves.
I follow your tips and the light on the Wr-Clik-r never turns yellow. Consequently it’s not pairing with the new wr-clik-tr transmitter. The old transmitter must’ve blown away in a storm before I bought the house. I’m using a Rainbird ESP-ME system and I have the rain sensor switch in the Active mode. I’ve removed power and reapplied numerous times. There’s no 9v backup battery, but somehow it still remembered its zones and programming.. Since the transmitter is new - is my receiver shot?
What would you do when it’s time to blow out the lines? I would assume place the head back in place and then revert it back come spring? Could you not just turn the adjustment screw on the head all the way in so that it blocks the water flow (same result as option 2) Ie: if you have some heads In the grass while others are in rocks (or something placed after the initial install)
Take the cap off when it’s time to blow it out. If the sprinkler is at the top of the hill, it’ll drain, so you really all need to focus on the sprinklers that are the lowest on the zone.
What’s the purpose of having an adjustable sprinkler head (screw to adjust distance/pressure) vs getting a smaller head? Ie: hunter, hydro rain, etc If one has a 15’ head already and needs a 10’ should one just adjust the 15’ or get a 10’ head?
If the screw that holds the nozzle in place, is tightened down to diffuse the spray pattern, the distribution uniformity is now uneven (for Rotors). Typically for spray heads, you can only diffuse the distance 20% or so. It is best to pick the nozzle for the correct distance; if 10 feet is desired, choose 10 feet. +/- 2 or 3ft is often acceptable, 5ft would be too much.
What devices can be added to a foot valve assembly in a pond to keep debris off the screen and away from the pick up? I have heard of a device that spins using pressurized water diverted from the up stream pump water (similar to how a spin-clean filter system is operated), but cannot find any information.
I don’t know specifically, but it is a good idea to keep the foot valve off the bottom. I have seen intakes that resemble a PVC drain pipe with holes drilled in it. I have also seen floating intakes. I’ll try to remember what the PVC drain pipe intake is called, if I recall, it’s on a ski/skid you slide into the water.
I cant seem to buy bobblers here in Calgary, and hunter USA won't ship internationally, also I'm looking for something like a 2foot spray distance

Thinking of replacing 6 rotors (on 2 zones) with the rotators. This was helpful
You’re welcome. Let us know how it goes!
How far away from the irrigation controller AND the PSR should the PSRB be placed?
The max distance is determined by the wire size. The booster is essentially an extender, and could be mounted next to the Pump Start Relay at the pump, or anyplace before it.
I cant find anything that wont hurt when wearing. I mean I dont have large ears. LOL
I agree. Have you tried the JLab over the ear with Noise Canceling? These have become my go-to. www.jlab.com/products/epic-air-sport-anc-true-wireless-earbuds-gen-2-black
What about in freezing locations? leaving water in the pipe with no way to blow out will crack the pipe
Correct. It is best to remove the cap during the blowout process if possible.
Thanks Nerd.
My pleasure, Frank!!
Rain bird all day!

I understand it’s a hunter controller but I have rainbird valves can I just use my rainbird dc latching solonoids for this hunter controller?
Because I use a leittt 4000 solar controller and it only uses DIG Lema 1600 solonoids and it’s such a hassle to have to use so many different solonoids I would rather stick with rainbird but rainbird does now use battery’s like this hunter controller
@@sandia4775typically, yes, solenoids are controller agnostic. But DIG does have special solenoids with their LEIT controller so I will need to check.
Thank you so much! We can not waster water in Texas, and my xeric garden doesn't need the water that it is getting.
I tried to connect using 1/2” tubing, but couldn’t get it to fit. Is that the correct type?
My sensor senses when it’s wet but never switches back to sensing dry, any idea how to fix this??
Great video, I'm planning to create DIY system with poly tubing so it can be converted to an unground system in the future. I've been considering 3/4 inch and 1 inch poly due to the distance and amount of heads I would like to install. Would you measure the GPM directly from the spigot or would u recommend creating short hoses for each diameter and connecting them to the spigot to measure the flow after building pressure in the line?
Are these solenoids compatible with Irritrol EV's? Was told they are by supplier, but when i put this on the valve its still constantly on and making noise
Not a sticking valve, there's a wire issue and wanted to place a battery pack on for now but it doesn't close the valve, is the o ring supposed to go in a specific spot?
Hi there, How can I erased a decoder from a acc controller. And then replace with a new one on the same station numbers, Of the one that was just erased?
These are excellent
100% !!
Thanks! very concise and precise video. You answered all my questions and voila! sprinkler repaired and adjusted!
Can you just put a brick or a rock on top so that it doesn’t pop up?
Yup, poured concrete works even better 😅
two years later and still no diaphragms available?
Hmm cost of winterization in my area Ohio asking 200$+ ..
How large is your system? Probably still worth the price. You can fix/repair every other part on your system, and paying for the proper Winterization is usually worth it.
@@Andy_Humphrey like 7 zones ..
Will the stem stil pop up when the zone its on comes on
Yes, the riser will still pop up, not sure if that’s good or bad for you. It becomes kind of an indicator.
Do you need to install a pressure reducer for this setup?
It is generally recommended to install a pressure regulator if your pressure is over 50psi. The drivers are pressure compensating, however the fittings are rated to 50 without clamps.
On one of my valves, when I turn it on by controller it makes a whining sound while running. When I manually turn by bleed screw or turning the solenoid the sound is not present. Is this a solenoid issue making sound while powered on? Not a buzzing but a loud whining.
It’s possible that there is debris under the solenoid so that the diaphragm is not opening all the way, causing it to whine. I’d start there. Remove the solenoid and check the list under it. You may need to remove the entire top of the valve to clean the port properly.
You could also try replacing the solenoid with another one on your system and see if the noise stops.
@@Andy_Humphrey Thank you, Andy!
Excellent presentation. You just saved me $200+
Thank you! Beginners luck, I suppose. This was my first video. Glad it helped, and I'm here if you need anything in the future.
Can this foot valves installed in petrol pumps
I don’t have any experience in that area but I would imagine there is something similar.
Thank you! Great information.
Thanks!
Please review the ESP-BAT-BT next. Thanks!
Thanks! I will add it to the list.
Hi- thank you, do the amount of zones you have matter when buying the new WiFi panel?
The panel is the same regardless of the number of zones. Good luck out there and have fun.
Hello good day. A quick question please. What are the 2 screws on the valve housing on the same valve on your video; but GB series (with out the clean water tube on the side). I figured one screw near the flow control handle maybe for the manual opening of the valve (bleed screw); but what about the other screw on the other side of the valve by the solenoid?
At first, I thought the screw under the solenoid was just a plug, but then I looked at the part breakout diagram and saw that it was also a filter. Here is a link to the diagram: cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1987/5531/files/Rain_Bird_GB_Parts.png?v=1720461940
People keep walking on and breaking off my sprinkler. I needed this info. Thanks!
Good luck with the fix!!
Thank you for the very helpful video, went your link and it was cheaper than Amazon, thanks again, just ordered the caps I needed (Method 2).
Excellent!! Have fun out there, here to help anytime.
If I use method 1 to cap off sprinkler heads, do I have to do anything different when blowing out before winter
Great question. It is best to remove the cap when blowing out the system. This is 100% important if the sprinkler is the lowest on the zone, less important (but recommended) if the sprinkler is highest elevation on the zone.
you missed the most obvious reasons for maintenance purposes having easier access to the sprinkler system is better. Usually, the sprinkler system is buried under dirt and difficult to access. I added two donuts and filled with sand to make changeouts easier and provide better clearance around the sprinkler. I have to literally excavate the two I installed risers on because over a few years they had become entombed in dirt.
Great feedback, thanks!
Great info thanks!
Thank you!
It has actually become more a nickname for the thread tape. But I looked at your stupid ass clip so you win. But you look Sus af
What type of battery to use. Would have been useful mentioning that piece of information.
@FreeManIraq58 Goog point, thanks for mentioning this. I'll pin this comment to the top for other viewers. This controller required Six (6) AA Batteries.
Thanks Andy. The wording is confusing but I get it : to cap a rotor, we use the method 3. And in fact, you say it at the beginning of the video but we expect to have a little bit more emphasis on it when you do talk about method 3 later on.
Yeah, unfortunately, there are no caps for rotor sprinklers. It's a bit strange.
Ordered a replacement transformer, installed it, no power coming out. Ugh! What now?
Interesting. Definitely not normal for a transformer to be bad out of the box. Silly question, did you check the incoming power? Perhaps the GFI is tripped, etc., or the power is high and it blew the new transformer. Use a multimeter and test power going into the transformer and out of the transformer
I just got one and installed it and I love it so far. A WiFi battery operated controller would be next level though. I think they make them but they are expensive
Excellent! I don’t believe there is a battery operated, Wi-Fi connected valve actuator, yet. I take that back, they’re actually is, but it’s designed for IOT applications. Depending on the size of your valve, you could consider removing it, and installing something the Rachio Wi-Fi hose tap timer.
I live in an HOA and they recently increased the pressure of the sprinklers without telling us. A sprinkler popped up that I didn’t know existed because the previous owner laid a bunch of bricks over it to stop it. For some reason it’s right next to the AC and bathroom window. I woke up to this sound of rushing water. I look out the window and see this river next to my window and AC. So the bricks did work for awhile but not with this new pressure. I have the rainbird 1800 my neighbor who has an identical house has the hunter and there seems to be just normal standard ones sprinkled around. Best $2.39 I ever spent
That is too bad, but very funny at the same time! Glad you had an 1800 with an available cap. Thank you for sharing!
Very interesting and good explaination, except for one thing : it should clearer that it is for spray sprinkler, not any sprinkler. Il I understood correctly.... I don't think the third method will it work for Rain bird 3500 ou 5000 ? There is a sentence near the end where he says any spray sprinklers. So I still ha e my problem : I need to close 1 rain bird 5000. I thought a cap like.that should exist for those sprinklers too ?
It looked like on mine that it unscrewed in two pieces if you want it to use that smaller cap
Correct, it is not possible to cap a rotors because there is no such cap available for any rotor type sprinkler. To cap a rotor, you will need to use the other method, unscrew the sprinkler, and put a female threaded cap onto the service fitting.
I find it hard to believe that a planet mostly made of water is running out of water.
Wow. Such an amazing comment!! I love the way you think. Thank you for thinking big! I would love to learn more .
I have this controller and when I turn on I'm getting "NO AC" which tells me no power. I tested the outlet the plug is in and it is getting power. Does this mean that I have to replace the transformer? Could there be any other issues other than this? How can I test the transformer to make sure this is the issue? I do notice that it is hot though. thanks
Correct, NO AC means the controller panel is not receiving power. To diagnose this as a transformer issue, you should check the voltage coming directly out of the transformer using a multimeter, you should see something between 24-29v. If it is 0v, this will tell you the transformer has failed. If there is voltage, then the problem is somewhere else, like the ribbon cable, circuit board, face panel, etc. If you don't have a multimeter, you can use a solenoid and tap the solenoid wires to the transformer wires, and you should feel it activate. Or, a multimeter at the hardware is about $15-25.
@@Andy_Humphrey thank you!
I had this system when I built my house 2yrs ago. It does not have a timer on it. The lights will not go off now. How do I reset the timer?
Is there an on/off toggle switch? Either way, if you unplug the internal plug it will turn off.
I've found that the solenoids fail on these units more often than debris being present inside the valve. The actuating tips at the bottom of solenoids wear over time. After a few years, the solenoid simply needs to be replaced. This is especially true with Lawn Genie brand. Just buy a new solenoid. Unscrew it by hand and install a new one. It doesn't matter which of the solenoid black wires go to the two electrical connections where you removed the old wire nuts. Solenoids are relatively cheap at the box stores, and any novice can replace them.
Thanks for sharing! Crazy that box stores don’t sell (because it doesn’t exist) a universal solenoid with adapters for all valves.
