    Great video! Very calming. The picture on the cheaper paper is very nice to me as well, though the difference on what is achievable on wich paper is getting clear. I think this is very important for beginners like me, since I got stuck at a point where I wasn’t able to improve much. Changing paper was definitely doing the trick then.

      Thank you for your comment. I think the quality of paint, brushes and paper are more important with watercolor than any other medium. I might talk more about that in a future video. Thanks.

      @@shirleypeters Really??? Attention to detail for me! I need to go back and relook!
      Edit: Ok - I stopped right before the very, very end. And I've got to say there is absolutely nothing wrong with the painting on the cheaper paper. It still looks lovely. You only notice the difference when both paintings are side by side!

    Another great video Shirley. Having flat brushes that split when you use them is a real pain. I've tried long hair, short hair, synthetic, mixed and various makes and can't seem to find a make or type that doesn't do that. If anyone knows one please let us know? What paper did you use for the first one Shirley please?

    • @shirleypeters
      @shirleypeters  Před 4 lety

      Thanks John. Glad you liked it. (Finding a source of cheap brushes might be the solution! Not expecting them to last.)
      That cheap paper was called “Derwent” (not associated with the pencils) and it was super cheap. I think the best quality non-cotton paper is Canson. Very affordable. I’ll do a video on that paper next.

    • @JohnSalmon
      @JohnSalmon Před 4 lety

      @@shirleypeters Thank you Shirley. I haven't tried Derwent. I'm a fan of Bockingford. I know it's considered cheap but I like the fact that you can lift paint so easily because it tends to lie on the surface. I have Arches and Saunders Waterford but find them so absorbent like blotting paper. Brushes. Even with brand new Daler System3 flats that hair splitting thing is a problem. I can't afford sable. More research required I think. Thank you.
