Here I am 4 years later on the anniversary of my brothers passing. This song was played at his wake and applied to his lifestyle. Remembering him, as he is gone but never forgotten. Sometimes it takes some men longer to mature but we all have something to learn from every person we encounter throughout our lifespan. And my biggest take from all of this time we had together was his zest for life and laughter. How I long to hear his hearty laugh one more time! I love you John boy, you will always be with me in spirit. Thank you big brother for everything you taught me good and bad.

I don't know if Kelsea actually wrote this or not but I absolutely adore the lyrics and the way they way they all connect back to Peter Pan. Not even just the obvious ones like "Lost Boys", "Neverland", "never gonna grow up, never gonna be a man" but "chasing stars", "keep your feet on the ground...fly away", it's like every lyrics is part of the Peter Pan story. It's not just a shallow reference to someone who can't grow up. It's crafted into the very fabric of the song.

I think you are missing the real point of the song. The man is emotionally immature and is unwilling to commit because there is always some other star (someone else) to chase after. As a result, he will always be searching but never find real intimacy and lasting happiness.

I don't really disagree with you in general, just in your interpretation of the song. Her criticism of him comes after he leaves her. Before that, he was "too good to be true", so it wasn't that she was crushing his independent spirit causing him to leave, rather he led her on and the tossed her aside. Rather than going the more typical route and hating on him, she feels sorry for him because (she believes) he doesn't realize that he is cutting himself off from fulfilling relationships ("what you lost") because he always flies away.
Granted this is based solely on the lyrics, rather than the video which may seem to be more in line with your interpretation. HOWEVER, in the video she still seems to enjoy and approve of his thirst for adventure. Her voice-over at the beginning saying "...he never stayed long enough to get hurt" is a dead give away that the point here is that he was never willing to really let himself be emotionally involved with her or anyone else because he doesn't want to get hurt. (Although that is just her perspective obviously.)

I think i just found one of my new favorite country singers.
I'm not proud of it, but I'm this guy. I always have been. Even though I realize that it's not good for stability, the freedom it offers is hard to pass up. This song is beautiful and reminds me alot of Tuesdays Gone and Freebird by Skynyrd. It also puts a few tears in my eyes.
There is nothing wrong with Puer Aeternus(immortal god boy). He is part of every man, as is Puella Aeternus(immortal god girl) is part of every woman. The problem is when Puer Aeternus won't integrate with the self and let other archetypes like the hero and the wise old man emerge to give a man direction in his psyche.
