"Lost boy" is a reference to the "lost boys" of Neverland. The "lost boys" whose parents rejected them; whose parents didn't want them; and were never claimed. Lost boys are the ones who felt as if they didn't belong in reality. So they were sent to Neverland, where they could be happy/free. In my perspective, I personally portray this song as a much deeper meaning than just Peter Pan. That's truly why I love this song💙✨

Me and my ex lost our son to our own bad decisions to cps and years later I'm staying at the last hotel we stayed at as a family and they gave me the same room I didn't ask for it. But I hate this I don't want to sit here alone. I lost my family. Super shitty feeling. I lost my mother right around 6 months ago, we always sang this song in the car together, we both had our own separate understanding/perspective of the song but nonetheless this song made us both a flood of emotions.
