Curtis your attitude is the key to your success. It rubs off on people brother. What a brilliant analogy comparing your work day to getting to go fishing with your grandfather!! America could use a few more million of you.
I bought my Florida home in June 2001. I immediately had my used air conditioner inspected and serviced...to avoid problems. Here we are 20+ years later and we have done "nothing" else to my unit. I counting my blessings...no freon, no break downs...no nothing.. I won't be complaining if it breaks down and needs to be replaced.
Truth be told, I wish I was able to go back to work. I was a grocery store clerk. HVAC is becoming more and more fascinating to me all the time. I've always been fascinated with electrical and electronic things.
Another great work video Curtis! When I was a residential service tech I loved blower motor replacements and blower assembly cleaning unless it was in a tight attic access and 130 - 140 degrees. Not fun at all. In all my year's in residential, I appreciated the package unit's and ease of service. One helpful bit of advice? Using that spray lube called Jack Of All Sprays was a miracle lubricant to break free those pesky and difficult blowers from the motor shaft. I essentially retired my wheel puller after using that product. Removing the bolt from the blower hub and spraying a quick burst into the threaded hole, wait 2 - 3 minutes and the wheel comes off with your hands easy peazy! Keep up the great work and stay hydrated out there!
🤜🏾🤛🏻
Jack of all sprays... I've never heard of it. I will have to buy some.
@@dporrasxtremeLS3 I was just thinking the same thing.
You sure do make fixing ac units easy.years of experience does that . Good job
Love the channel. I’m 2 yrs in as a service tech. Every service call is an adventure I look forward to learning from
I am an accomplished automation mechanic and electrician but a relative greenhorn on HVAC. I now support almost 150 facilities over a huge swath of my state and with all the A/C issues we've been having going into triple digit temps, I am learning a lot binge watching your videos. It's only one of a lot of things I do, but I am a very visual learner and it's nice to see it first-person start to finish. Most of our facilities use the same tonnage central air as an average home instead of chillers and cooling towers. While I'm not messing with evacuation and charging at this point [and a lot of our equipment is still using R22], I do handle repairs and routine maintenance. Love the channel.
Thanks for the video Curtis, stay well.
Was waiting for you to mention all the notes inside from previous failures. Looks like everything has already been replaced at least once.
Love how you dive right in Curtis. Doing great brother. Keep it up
Nothing like it! Good for you I feel the same way every day! Keep doing your thing I think you need no help ! Been watching your videos for a while and have learned a lot!
If you remember back in the early 2012ish the GE X13 motors had a "recall" for the permanent magnets coming lose. I missed the recall, but my HVAC guy replaced it out of his pocket when the magnets came lose. I was suppose to have a 10 year warranty, but Westinghouse couldn't find the paperwork and the unit was just past 5 years old.
Idc what the haters say. This is one of my fave ac channels to watch. Dude is just laid back as hell. I don’t do much residential. I pretty much work on grocery store refrigeration and ac. Wish I had this guys temperament
Great job. I made up a little motor removal kit for myself. I put a little Emory cloth, my puller, a socket and adaptor for my impact and some PB oil in a zip "ENVELOPE" tool bag.
With those rubber bushings silicone spray is your friend. You spray them down with that and not only will it make them easier to get back on but it protects them from drying out too,
I love The Ultimate Puller!!!!! I finally convinced one of my coworkers to get one and he loves it and thanked me for telling him about it. He was using a hammer and a brass rod before the puller. What a chore!
Residential is always bottom of barrel. Refrigeration much more rewarding. No more filthy, cluttered houses, bedbugs, pet feces and hoarders. WV and Ohio terrible for this. Salute to you for putting up with it.
Techs like will always have work and happy customers 👏
Good job Curtis.
I have no employees either work by myself and love it.
Hey Curtis I'm right with ya I love hvac and every time I go to school I get really pumped to go 😊 we have been doing brazing and I love that part to !!!
Once you master the brazing techniques, you're 75% on your way to being a journeyman. That skill is VITAL to being a successful HVAC Technician! Good luck!
I so enjoy watching your videos and I learn so much. Thank you for what you do
Loving what you do is awesome
I love hvac life.
thanks again for another great video. always learn something new
Can't say this enough but you're awesome brother
17:35, my ear buds in heard sirens, paused video, nope their on the video😂
Nice , neat change-out ... Thx ...
Outdoors work is great. No such thing as bad weather, just bad clothes. If it's hot, I use an industrial fan. Even crickets make me happy.
Ultimate hub puller. Best tool
I work alone myself. though wish I had some help on some jobs..enjoy your videos.
Great video ✌
FYI the x-13 motor without the controller is also a 3-phase generator. If you set your meter to a/c voltage, put the leads on any two pins then turn the wheel, you will see voltage. Which lead me to warn that if you are testing the motor winding resistance with your meter and you happen to spin the wheel, you could damage the meter. On a positive note, never throw away the old x-13 motor as it can be used to generate electricity by many of us hackers.
Love the performance of the X13 motors, but the replacement cost to me dosen't justify having them in units.
I enjoyed that video.
Great videos 😜
Curtis what you said about motor horsepower and newton meters made no sense lol. Newton meters are a torque measurement. Have you considered just multiplying the amperage by the voltage and dividing by 745 to get the horsepower? Horsepower is just a measurement of power like wattage.
80 degrees outside and I troubleshot a line voltage T-stats. Stuck on. The customer has a gas pack and has not used the electric baseboard in ages but she is getting ready to sell her house.
Sir u look great in ur new cowboy hat n hvac dress.
New sub from Bama!!
Curtis ever try small wire brush on your drill works great on motor shafts like your videos
Good idea
Curtis great videos. Could you tell what are the name of you arm guards. My arms get cuts and red marks everyday. Thanks.
Good video I just recently changed just the module and just a couple months later motor failed
Yes, I replaced my module. Bought 2 from a guy in Florida. He rebuilds them, and warrentys them for 2 years including programming. 2 for 200. Has worked for 4 years now.
Would you pls do a full video of an install? We don’t mind if it’s a long video.
I generally replace the motor and module together
Did he go buy a new motor and replace it with a refurb he had laying around? Lol
Hi Curtis I was wondering why you don't have one of those portable work tables ? So when doing those motor swaps you can work like a gentleman not on the ground . Keep up the good work .
Dirty as that blower wheel was the ducts are probably just as bad. Underside of that coil maybe dirty as well. Potential problems for that customer in the future and more $ for you now .
It’s not the motor, it’s a two dollar varistor that you can cut and solder a new one on. Look at the module it will be easy to identify ( look for what’s burnt). Always what fails on ecm.
Yea for genteq ecm, never seen a varistor fail in a broad ocean.
It is actually a current limiting thermistor, and isn't really "always" what fails.
Also, the X13 and newer Genteq variable speed motors have the electronics fully potted, there is no access to the PCB board like there used to be.
What was the socket attachment you had connected to your 1/4 5/16 flip bit on your impact? You used it to attach the bracket on the fan motor. Thanks for the videos. Starting my hvac career.
Man the plug for the line voltage you could get bit messing with that plug
I love your videos and your diagnostic process! It would be a huge plus if you got yourself a clip on mic. It is very hard to hear what you're saying, especially if I'm watching without earbuds or headphones.
The biggest thing was for me was having and old motor . Calling for a replacement and giving them the model number and frame . And there like how old is the motor im like 30 years old. We can't find that number .
HP/ HORSE POWER IS THE DEPTH OF THE MOTOR
THE CFM DICTATES THE SPEED
Why do you look like Batman ???? 8:43 I love thou 😅
Motors have always be measured in horsepower it started when we used horse for work
You could tack Weld those nut plates.
Those dastardly ecms that are supposed to save you energy cost, but in turn cost you way more. It's really par for this world course we're all on.
I'm curious and am looking for input from any techs out there.
I've got one place where the mudule keeps going out every year or two. As I've dug into these things I have learned that there is a thermistor that will go bad in the event the blower stops moving air or, in my case, maybe the air intake isn't large enough and is causing it to overheat. Anyone ever heard of the intake being too small and causing repeated failures?
I mean just look at that blower wheel it’s full of dust Curtis that’s nasty af!! Another question what’s up with all that pine straw you’ve got in your region?
Great job on that squirrel cage. Do you charge extra to clean that?
No. Not if I’m doing the motor
👍
Any link to that tool you used to punch out that stuck motor shaft? I know some cases that woulda came in handy
That was a screwdriver. Try a punch on a rotary hammer just on hammer. Works great
I think he forgot what he used. It’s called the Ultimate Puller. They work great
Supco wheel puller
Watts would be better . 1 horse power would be 746 Watts .
I you are checking motor winding insulation break down use a megohmmeter not a fieldpiece clamp meter.
No employees and we did change out? Who's we?
Another company helps me out with changeouts
WD 40 may help lol
Brother you need a electric ratchet
Evergreen motors come with 2 year warranty instead of 1, and they're cheaper.. Go figure. Lol
The Europeans use Watts for motors.
my dream is to be one man company take what i want leave what i don’t maybe sometimes sub a install out
If a person loves what they do, they'll never work a day in their life.
I Love it! Great saying!
Every phone number the I use requires a 10 digit entry in order to call out. Your van has a seven digit phone number on it?????
👍
