    I bought my Florida home in June 2001. I immediately had my used air conditioner inspected and serviced...to avoid problems. Here we are 20+ years later and we have done "nothing" else to my unit. I counting my blessings...no freon, no break downs...no nothing.. I won't be complaining if it breaks down and needs to be replaced.

    Another great work video Curtis! When I was a residential service tech I loved blower motor replacements and blower assembly cleaning unless it was in a tight attic access and 130 - 140 degrees. Not fun at all. In all my year's in residential, I appreciated the package unit's and ease of service. One helpful bit of advice? Using that spray lube called Jack Of All Sprays was a miracle lubricant to break free those pesky and difficult blowers from the motor shaft. I essentially retired my wheel puller after using that product. Removing the bolt from the blower hub and spraying a quick burst into the threaded hole, wait 2 - 3 minutes and the wheel comes off with your hands easy peazy! Keep up the great work and stay hydrated out there!

    I am an accomplished automation mechanic and electrician but a relative greenhorn on HVAC. I now support almost 150 facilities over a huge swath of my state and with all the A/C issues we've been having going into triple digit temps, I am learning a lot binge watching your videos. It's only one of a lot of things I do, but I am a very visual learner and it's nice to see it first-person start to finish. Most of our facilities use the same tonnage central air as an average home instead of chillers and cooling towers. While I'm not messing with evacuation and charging at this point [and a lot of our equipment is still using R22], I do handle repairs and routine maintenance. Love the channel.

    If you remember back in the early 2012ish the GE X13 motors had a "recall" for the permanent magnets coming lose. I missed the recall, but my HVAC guy replaced it out of his pocket when the magnets came lose. I was suppose to have a 10 year warranty, but Westinghouse couldn't find the paperwork and the unit was just past 5 years old.

    FYI the x-13 motor without the controller is also a 3-phase generator. If you set your meter to a/c voltage, put the leads on any two pins then turn the wheel, you will see voltage. Which lead me to warn that if you are testing the motor winding resistance with your meter and you happen to spin the wheel, you could damage the meter. On a positive note, never throw away the old x-13 motor as it can be used to generate electricity by many of us hackers.

    Curtis what you said about motor horsepower and newton meters made no sense lol. Newton meters are a torque measurement. Have you considered just multiplying the amperage by the voltage and dividing by 745 to get the horsepower? Horsepower is just a measurement of power like wattage.

    It’s not the motor, it’s a two dollar varistor that you can cut and solder a new one on. Look at the module it will be easy to identify ( look for what’s burnt). Always what fails on ecm.

    • @OnePointLander

    • @markbeiser
      @markbeiser Před 2 lety +2

      It is actually a current limiting thermistor, and isn't really "always" what fails.
      Also, the X13 and newer Genteq variable speed motors have the electronics fully potted, there is no access to the PCB board like there used to be.

    I've got one place where the mudule keeps going out every year or two. As I've dug into these things I have learned that there is a thermistor that will go bad in the event the blower stops moving air or, in my case, maybe the air intake isn't large enough and is causing it to overheat. Anyone ever heard of the intake being too small and causing repeated failures?
