@@musicthatexistswhat is your opinion of slowwave? Like that irish guy who makes music in his room... thank you and sign crushes motorist (he has several band names he makes music under).
I imagine shoegaze basically being the result of combining postrock with the mixing techniques of black metal...and what a beautiful, dreamy result it is ❤️
Gotta agree, Whirr is the representative of the genre for me even if MBV and Slowdive are considered more foundational. Distressor is definitely in my top 5 albums of all time.
Nah, man. Sorry, but regardless of what guitar-led genre a person wants to pursue, they'd need to know the basics of how a guitar works. There is a good reason why companies like Fender produce guidebooks. And given that experimental rock and avant rock exists, they are a testament to the limitless potential of a single instrument. Not to mention, shoegaze itself was born from experimentation. The combination of different techniques and instrument experience backed by effects pedals are the foundation of what we hear today. The effects pedals are the guitar equivalent of a cherry on top of a sundae, the finishing touch of something already beautiful.
I simply can't be content with distant vocals in my music. I want the audience to understand my lyrics and the message they bring. I also keep letting the guitar go crazy. Perhaps I'll try to be more disciplined for my next track.
Aw thanks so much! The song is Mrs Robinson by Simon and Garfunkel, and the fuzz is a Way Huge Russian Pickle with overdrive in front. Eq focused on the high mids, with a sharp cut on anything above 15k. Plus chorus and reverse delay :) If you're interested in a full version I uploaded it a few days ago here: on.soundcloud.com/hWTu4
i will just say as a shoegaze fan, usually the singing is not quite as buried as that. and this song is a bit more violent than shoegaze ever gets. still awesome though!
Agreed. However if I'd have called this "how to turn any song popgaze" it wouldn't have had half the engagement. Plus, popgaze is still very much shoegaze and was a subcategory that was used to define the movement long after it had gone. That kind of overclassification of music is a school of thought I don't subscribe to, you get me? Thanks for your comment though! 😁
@@musicthatexists yes, i know some subgenres that are inefficient. But believe me, popgaze is not one of them. I've not quite done a full album but I have done a full version of this song! Check it out 😁
Geoff Castellucci’s cover of Sound of Silence isn’t quite shoegaze, but it’s pretty darn awesome.
How'd u get the dirty fuzz
Deftones in 2000: I'm going to take that, but make it heavier
Not really at all tbh
@@garbagetruck3874 yeah, they had cleaner drums, and more depressing sounding songs
Some songs can be kinda shoegazey, but they're definitely more metal than they are shoegaze.
@@CMX431 that's why I said they made it heavier. I can also hear some reggae influence

That's absolutely fair you know, it'd be remiss not to mention the psychedelic influence too, but yeah I'd agree
Now all I need to do is figure out how to do all those effects on acoustic
Genuinely, once you manage feedback, these effects sound great on acoustic!
I feel like your version of bridge over troubled water would be absolutely terrifying
Do not tempt me haha

The vocals brought it all together

Distant vocals, yes, good definition
Good job. That was a great shoegaze song. Keep it up bro
also whammy bar/dramatic string bends
that’s what glide picking is
Bad ass simplicity! I love it.

Genius. Thank you for this
Love this!! Two questions: 1. Can you explain how you bury the drums in the mix? And 2. How do you get the darker fuzzy rhythm tone??
Bury your guitar in reverb and delay also put crunch on guitar and that’s how to shoegaze
Sounds like any Cocteau Twins song ever
Love me some Cocteau Twins
Cocteau Twins and MBV are dope
not even slightly
Bro, do you even Cocteau Twins?
That pink Telecaster is 🔥!
Also, don't study guitar, those 500 dollar pedals can carry you.

Lmao..7 is probably the most important step... Crank up that saturation to 11
