- LS Engine Swap On A Budget - Getting It In
No one said a Mercedes LS engine swap would be easy! I start the fitment process, test out the factory GTO engine mounts and see how much fabrication work I need to do to get this all to work together.
Huge shout out to Initial DIY Mods for the help and advice on this car. Check out his channel

I am swapping a Chevy LS2 into my Mercedes SLK. I've got all the steps and am detailing how much I'm spending and how I'm doing it. I'm building the world's first LS swapped Mercedes SLK, and I'm doing it as cheaply as possible.

9.9k damn thats fast I remember 1.2k and thinking about how this channel needs more subs
Cheers man
Appreciate you being around from the start!
Great video man
Been a while.... Please more!!
Dude that fits pretty well. Amazing how the oil pan is shaped almost perfectly. Almost wonder if fabbing two new mounts could get it lower to help the hood clear. Awesome progress!
I don’t think I can bring it any lower without running into other issues. I’m also amazed at the oil pan too.
Secretly the German engineers wanted American muscle... ;)
😂😂😂
Waiting for next video,
Is it coming anytime soon ? 😃
This is a unique and interesting swap! We subscribed and looking forward to seeing this project grow!
Appreciate you rare unicorns!
Love the videos and very informative.I want to LS swap a 2011 bmw 7 series that I own and I don’t where to start.
Try to find some forums and videos where people have done it before.
This is an exciting project indeed! I hope it goes as smooth as possible! Can't wait to see the final build! You've just earned a new Subscriber! I love cars! Keep up the great work with these videos!
Thanks for checking this out! Your camera review was actually very informative.
Thanks! I appreciate that feedback about my M50 review, (BTW: If you do end up getting an M50, please consider using my affiliate link from my video). And I'm actually very interested in cars (I own an S2000 and NSX). I have a Car Channel myself, but haven't had time to grow it much: czcams.com/users/rareunicorns . In contrast, your Car channel is AWESOME! I'm certainly going to keep a close watch on your content!
It will get very interesting when or if you get the engine mounted with all the mechanical bits attached for fuel, exhaust, steering and cooling to the point it drives and have to start getting all the other electronics working such as the vario roof! Additionally will be quite a challenge to drive without traction control, having an SLK with 500 plus hp I know just how wild it can get when you turn off all the driver aids. I don't know if the dif your using is a limited slip dif but if not you should budget to get one.
Good to see progress! So did you end up changing the steering setup yet?
I have more videos to post soon. Gonna keep the stock setup methinks.
Please sell this as a conversion kit once your done with all the pieces needed besides the engine an transmission because I’d love to do this to my slk an I’m sure many others
.... a little bit of "constructive criticism" .... since you left the passenger side stock and drilled the driver side mount only, your engine is now sitting 1 3/4" offside ... toward the "tight side" where you have to work around the steering. You should have drilled both mounts 7/8" in which would center the engine and give you almost an extra inch to play with on the left side ... and, as any girl will tell you, "an extra inch makes a big difference"!!!
Thanks. The project got canned a while ago :/
When will this be continued!?
Any updates on the project?
I'd like to get a hold of you. I've got an 01 slk320 and I'm wanting to do a swap on it. Would love some advice
Where’s the full build? ;)
Well... so much for it being a sleeper.
What about a hood from a V8 Brabus SLK?
Good idea to see if it has a bulge in the right spot.
Where you gonna find one of those??
i want to see how you solve the problem of the headers, im putting a Small Block on a Mercedes w202 and i have the same problem!!!
That’s gonna be a big challenge!
Sooooooo... any progress?
So where is this project now? It seems like its been dormant for about a year and a half :(
do you do motorcycle work ever?
I have never worked on a motorcycle, but I’d imagine it would be a bit tighter and smaller. At least access is easy!
Get a Subaru scoop on that bad boy
drasticg its an option!
How is the LS swap going?
Slow :( Not much interest in it. It will happen though.
Did you ever finish this project?
No - Steering column clearance was an issue.
Brabus made a v8 version
Did you make it?
Project is on hold

It's a real shame Scotty Kilmer thinks in his fictional mind that these engines aren't reliable.
😂😂😂
I just watched one of his live streams and he Corvette engines are some of the best made.
@@johnc6466 That's not what he said about the 99 and newer Silverado & Sierra though. He claimed that any truck by GM any newer than 95 are not reliable. Cough cough...BS Scotty.
Tommy Hammond You can trust Scotty to have an opinion on everything based on a sample size of one:

Just trash it and get a Toyota.
Best idea ever!!
Any updates?
