Hi Luis, 👋🏽 I am American. The TEFL certificate is available for anyone it's an online course. I took it to start teaching online and then I started traveling so yes you can take the course while living in the US or anywhere in the world. 😊

Hi Christina, thank you for making this video. It's very helpful and informative. I was looking up the International open academy online and found that unfortunately for the USA it looks like isn't accredited by the Accrediting Council for continuing education and training (or ACCET) the CEA (Commission on English language of Accreditation) two accrediting bodies they say are necessary for TEFL online in USA, do you recommend any other TEFL courses for American students? Sorry this was so long! Thanks for reading.

Hello Miss Overcomer👋🏽 (😂 cool name) you need a TEFL certificate to teach English OUTSIDE the USA and other native English speaking countries. So the accreditation is important to come from an international institutions. For example, as an American, I was able to obtain my TEFL certificate form IOA (international open academy) mentioned above and teach English online to Chinese students. I hope that answers to be question and sorry for the late response 🙏

It usually is easier to get hired if you have a bachelors degree in any subject so yes but it really depends on the company.

Hey Christina, when you are done with the course, do they ship the certificate? I am already in China but the certificate has to be notarized by my country of origin.
Hi 👋🏽 you should be able to get the certificate online. Check the certificate tab at the bottom of the course modules. If you can't find it. There is 24 hour customer service on the website (right hand side with the notes) to help you solve any issue fast. Let me know if this was helpful

Does anyone have experience in knowing if extending the course access is helpful? I just completed the IOA certificate, but access to the course in limited to a certain number of days unless you extend it. Did anyone find going back to the course material useful? Hi Priscilla, it depends. I used the certificate to teach online so i didn’t particularly need to extend access however if you are NEW to teaching online or in school, you may need to review the materials you have learned so in that case i would recommend extending it. Hope that helps 🙏

I just ordered the TEFL course through the link that you provided. How long does it last before the course expires? Will I need to extend my time with the course. I am a teacher full time and I won't be able to sit all day and do the modules but I will need to do a little everyday after work.

I'm currently taking the course that you mentioned but my oh my it's almost like learning a new language again because when we were growing up learning English we were not told about pronouns/antecedents etc etc It's a lot for me to take in having not studied anything for 30 years or so. Once this course has been passed how on earth do you even begin to TEFL?

Thanks for the insight. I have a question. What is the difference between 120, 150 and 250 hour tefl courses?
So the 120 hours long one covers the full course curriculum, qualifies you to teach online, and allows you to choose two additional courses for specialization in teaching. It is the most common.
The 150 hour long one has all of those mentioned above, but one extra specialization course.
On the TEFL website I couldn’t find anything on a 250 hour course.

You just need a TEFL certificate that proves you understand English enough to teach it. About the Mexico part I’m not sure. I also live in Mexico and currently asking the same question

I recommend reading them both and seeing which one you think fits your needs and goals.

Hello Samson, 👋🏽 I am not familiar with this company so I would recommend looking for reviews from others and check for legitimacy. If the TEFL certificate states that it is internationally accredited, then it usually can be used online and abroad. However, you have to look at your level of comfort and experience when it comes to abroad. Because some schools expect more than others when it comes to teaching abroad.
