New to the channel? I do Let's Play videos -- these are like walkthrough guides of gameplay with continuous English commentary trying to explain my decisions and what strategy I use. If you're looking for hacks or cheats, you're in the wrong place! - Hry
Now that I graduated in Hearts of Iron 4 with a PhD I'm ready to get stomped by the actual gameplay.
Ikr even though I watched this I feel like I’m going to get rufflestomped
PhD??
It's like basic training, comrade.
Experience is aquired playing yourself.
I'm gonna die even with the knowledge

Faaaacts this is a whole fucking class/course 😂
You can really tell how many people gave up trying to learn by the difference of views between episode 1 and 7
Good for them. If it's not something they are going to like, might as well save the money.
Still here!
A four-hour tutorial is a lot to handle for most people.
Some people though: Can we get a ten-hour director's cut?
kek, just under 10% do the whole tutorial
I have persevered... I have endeavored... I went through the impossible and finally.. all my efforts are paying off.. I have made it to the end!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"While the fleet is sitting in dock they are not vulnerable to attack - Well.. there is port strikes - but ignore that!" - Quill18 and Admiral Harold R. Stark of Pearl Harbor.
lmao
Yeaaaa about that....
I was just on my way to the comments to make a Pearl Harbor reference.
Or Taranto
@@_badger_9902 Or Port Arthur (Pre WWI but still)
I can now play this game because of your 7 part series... Thank you.
SAME! This was the most helpful tutorial I've ever seen on ANYTHING on CZcams
Sooo many mechanics... and the so called "In game tutorial" barely mentions a few of them. I spend half an hour wondering why my 14 italian divisions were taking so long to push through a measly two divisions of ethiopian infantry, just to realize that because of the combat width (that had not been explained) meant that only 3 divisions were actually engaging the enemy
@@miguelrodriguezcimino1674 ikr
The ingame tutorial is pretty much USELESS.
I Almost gave up playing before i found quill's tutorial.
If i were the game developers i would include in the tutotrial a link to this videos...
Agreed!

Damm bro, this is dark. :'D
best 2020 youtube comment this far omg.
lol
This....was fucking incredible.
Perfect
Hamds down, the best intro to the game in its current form.
Amazing. These really should be linked from in- game.
I don’t think I’ve ever dedicated 4 hours of my life to learning how to play a game, but my god.. I’m glad you made this series. Legend 👍🏻
Got this game in the recent steam sale. Tutorial felt very short and not informative. Thank you for making these videos, I can now enjoy the game without worrying too much about not knowing what the hell is going on.
Yeah, I did the tutorial and even during it I couldn't tell what it wanted me to do. Eventually I started figuring it out and even took Ethiopia, but after that I had no idea what I should do
And now on to the first game myself. Wish me luck ^-^
Luck has been wished!
@@catzoran thanks ^-^ I have started playing as Finland and well I don't think this is going to go well
@@anon_22 Don't let an eventual loss (or 4) get you down. The game can be tricky at first, and loss is expected. But the Finns are stubborn fellas, they will come back from the dead to fight another day! :)
@@catzoran thanks for the motivation. I just lost Helsinki ^^ held out till November 1940 but it was only a matter of time. It took the Soviets only 2 months to push me back to only 2 cities. And after loosing one half a month later only Helsinki stood against the storm. They held out many months but I couldn't get a peace treaty with the Soviets so they just slowly wore my troops down till everything collapsed.
Game is still continuing though so maybe I'll be able to get great Britian to give me one of their countries so that I could continue with those
@@anon_22 So how's it going, mate
"......Yeah I think that's it!"
Me staring at the screen still confused after 7 videos........
Do you have the game though?
@@georgefernsby2254 I do
yeah me too
While having almost 200 hours in, I still found this 7 vids very interesting and educative nonetheless. Fantastic job. 👍🏻
This was helpful, I was doing simple things that were annoying me to all hell, like my offensive lines. I did not really understand that they were lines, I was going of the arrow and i thought i drew where I wanted to attack, not where I want the line of attack to go, so i would draw arrows towards cities or whatever and my troops would never listen, was super frustrating.
I never knew how to work airplanes and ships, I actually thought if you just put airplanes on armies they would do everything and if you told ships to patrol without setting areas they would just do it.
Thanks a lot for this super in depth tutorial its going to allow me to enjoy the game a lot more.
It would be worth the investment for the Devs to 1. Either do a thorough tutorial series like this....or 2. Pay someone like Quill to do it for them. They would move so many more units of the game b/c people wouldn't be too scared to even try it to begin with.
Thanks for the tutorials. When is your next HOI campaign coming? I will understand a lot better now what the hell is going on while you seemingly click random buttons
I'm surprised how consistent the viewer counts of each video of this tutorial series have gotten, usually the viewer counts drop significantly as it goes for such kind of long tutorial. This is the evidence of how good is it.
I got the game about a month ago, after watching these vids for years. Watched the first couple, then decided to play some. After getting stomped a couple times, I've finally finished the series. I see a couple major things I was missing before which makes a ton of sense now.
Fantastic set of videos! Learned a bunch, gonna go play HOI now.
Fantastic explanation of the naval side of this game. Loved this whole series! It’s made me love this game all over again! Well done Quill!
Thank you for this tutorial series. It was incredibly useful!
I'm trying to get into this game since I love Paradox other titles, but HOI4 is clearly the most complex one. Really appreciate this tutorial, very much needed. Good job!
How is HOI4 the most complex one? Imo, both CK2 and EU4 more complex. HOI4 is more complex for the first 50hrs, after that, when you get to know the gist of it, it's just trial and error while i.e. EU IV you just "randomly" die from a coalition 😂
HOI3 is much more complex
@@NeurosisOsmosis How so? I got it, but started to play HOI4 first. Whats different in HOI3?
Nemanja Matić CK2 is basically “here are your resources, here is land that you either own directly or have a buddy own, you can build stuff on this land, and you can talk to people.” EU4 is “Research some technology, build up your land, improve your ideas, and maybe even do some colonization.” HoI4 is “Yo wassup loser, you have to pretrain troops using materials you gotta build with resources, then deploy those bad boys. There’s also battle plans, bonuses, and all that stuff. Oh, and don’t get me started on National Focuses, navy, Air Force, and politics”
@@thekrusadr this is the most stupid summary of ck2 AND eu4, I have ever seen, clearly biased.
You absolute legend. I played the in-game tutorial and was more confused than anything. This 7 part series went as fast as humanly possible in an organized and thorough manner. Thanks!
when i played the in game tutorial i didn't understand anything, and i almost lost hope in the game, but binge watching your videos truly made me see the beauty in the game thanks a lot !
Great job having put 50 hours in so far you linked the little things I was missing! Awesome series of videos
Quill helped me understand how to play Victoria 2 something like 8 or 9 years ago? And even today he is still decrypting these mystifying Paradox games. Thanks for all you do, Quill.
This was so awesome! Glued to the series. Thank you!!! Please do the same for CK2, Stellaris and EU4!
Thank you SO MUCH for this seven part "walk-through". I watched them all and saved them to look back on when I needed to and it really helped me actually get into this game....Just wanted to say thank you and it really really helped someone! Fantastic job! Would love to hear more for different games from you! (Crusader Kings II)!!
Havnt started playing yet but just watched the whole tutorial and now im hoping i will at least be able to somewhat play it :P Very good tutorial. Very thorough. Thank you :)
Hey, quill, this series was great. Whenever I get 6 months or more from playing a Paradox game I have to remind myself which way up to hold it :)
Great Series. I've been watching 'lets plays' for a while and decided to pick the game up in the Steam Sale. This series has really help to get me going, THANKS!
Love these videos. Bought the game a long time ago as I am a big history fan but was blown away by its complexity. Watching these helped a TON!
I have to say that this is the most thorough Tutorial I have ever seen on a video game.
Thank you so much for your time and effort in making these videos. I'm on this last part now :)
Just wanted to thank you for making all of these. Spent hours watching all 7 videos and now I feel very confident I can get started on my first playthrough!
As I finish watching all 7 parts. I find my self applauding. Thank you.
thank you for this series because without it i would have been completely lost
You're an amazing pedagogue ! Thank you for these 7 videos !
Thanks for creating this Quill18, just purchased the game and the tutorials made it easy to get started.
Thanks for these videos. I am a veteran of Darkest Hour and when HOI4 came out, I soon went back to Darkest Hour. Your tutorial has convinced me that the HOI4 has matured enough for me to give it another try (along with the DLCs that are currently on sale on steam) . I appreciate the effort you put into this series.
Thank you very very much! I just finished watching the seven videos, and you have no idea how you helped me. I am going through some difficult times, and everything I learned from your tutorial will help me to unwind my mind. All the best for you, quill!
Excellent series Quill, these videos have explained so much for me I feel I can dust of HOI 4 and play it again, but this time with a hell of a lot more knowledge...Many Thanks, what could possibly go wrong now!!!
Thank you so much for your series. You are the first teacher I have really listened to for more than 1 hour since college! And that is 20 years ago. Sincerely really great and if ww3 breaks out you should be a general as you are both inspiring and a great strategist!
You're an absolute hero for putting this series together, thank you so much!!
Thank you for these Tutorials! have not played the game in awhile and this was a good refresher!
Fantastic series, thank you!
Thank you so much for this series! I always wanted to get into Hearts of Iron IV but it looked so hard. Wish me luck on my journey!
Finally watched all of your tutorial videos. Now time to play the game.
I know this is quiet late but , this is probably the best game-tutorial I ever saw on CZcams since I started watching CZcams videos ! Thank you so much for the detailed hard work !
Great Job Quil18, keep up the good work yo!!
Excellent series, thanks a lot, I couldn't have played the game without this tutorial, it was overwhelming
After 7 episodes, years of having the game in my library, being 6 am , I can finally start a new game knowing what to do, I praise you, subscirbed
This series has been very informative. Thank you for creating it.
Thanks for this now I can finally start :)
Thank you so much! These 7 videos are testimony to your passionate enthusiasm and insight. Thanks to you I now know enough to begin playing HoI4.
Thanks bud, awesome set of vids and great commentary throughout the series. Excellent explanations !!
Easy and joyful way to explain such a complex strategy game. I watched 7/7 episodes like a student who listens his favorite class at scholl. Well done dude! You have earned a new subscriber and a continuous follower. Cheers Mate!
Awesome and clear playlist tutorial, finally finished and I can really appreciate the game more thanks so much :)
Learned alot of uselfull stuff, even as an experienced player. Thank you for the tutorial, I hope that we will get another HOI4 let's play series soon!
Thanks so much for these fantastic tutorials! You really make it possible to take control of the game. Great work!!!
Thank you so much for this tutorial series.
really hepled me out!
7/7 done. Ready to start the game for the first time. Amazing tutorials! Thank you for the effort, best tutorial of the most complicated game ever :)
"You can go off to the eastern front, have fun over there" cracked me tf up.
Thanks Quill. Your approach to explaining this game was spot on. Others just get lost in the woods. You do a good job of broad discussions and and going in and out of the weeds when you need to. I ended up losing 150k of men while Finland lost 80,000, and there was coup by Trosky, but it's a start!
This is a really cool tutorial presented by the very best. Thanks again quill18.
Many thanks for these 7 tutorial episodes. Superb quality!
Thank you for this massive introduction to HoI4, really appreciate it and great work mate! Subbed and liked them all as a token of gratitude. Keep that good content coming:)
Excellent tutorial, now ready to dive into the game thanks to you! Paradox should definitely hire you to create embedded tutorials for each of their games as they would most certainly get a lot more players with a bit of explanation.
This series was extremely helpful. Many thanks. Very well done.
Now that Ive got the basics I think it's good for me to watch normal campaigns to get even more knowledge on the optimal strategies and what not. I recommend this to all of the people looking thru comments
Just finished all 7 tutorial vids, big thank you Mr Quill 👍🏼
Mate, amazing video series! I definitely have a better grasp on this game. Thank you so much
After spending about 4 hours, I can finally play the game! Thanks man for this series!
Well you've done a pretty bang-up job of explaining things. Thanks for that. Now to see if I can make any headway on this behemoth.
Oh men! What a series! Just got the game today! A lot to learn but you made an awesome job!
It is time to begin my first playthrough. Thanks for the fantastic tutorial!!
This was super helpful. Phase was also slow enough that it was easy to take in.
Thank you. Very helpful to get started.
I watched this so I could play with a friend who really loves this game and I didn't know how to play. Thank you so much for this! It's super helpful!
I had the general gist of most things but in every video of yours you gave me new information that expanded my knowledge of the game even more. The navy stuff I was completely lost on so this specific part helps a ton.
Thank you so much for these tutorials Quill! You broke these gameplay features down in an easy to understand way.
By the way, my favorite terms of yours are "scoosh" and "kerfufflage"
amazing tutorial video and now im ready to get into the game
I think you nailed the tutorial! Really good, i have been playing Hoi for a little bit now when i realised its in the pc xbox game pass, now i think ill enjoy it more. Fascinating game
This has been the most helpful #hoi4 tutorial I've found. Thank you for taking the time to make it! Fantastic work. I now feel far less inept at this (initially) semi-whelming game.
I was literally lost on how to play I couldn't even litually play tutorial till I watched episode 1 thanks I'm still a noob but I am an educated noob
Very nice tutorial :-) Would love to see one/some for Crusader Kings II as well.
Thank you. Just plain and simple. Great work, great vids. Made the game very accessable. Will definitely watch your LP's. Just subscribed to stay up to date. But now i wanna hop into the action :)
Thank you for the tutorial. I have a better understanding of the game now. You are a really great teacher.
So again, thank you for your passion for this game, and also especially for the teaching.
Just got this game. This series was excellent. It's an overwhelming game and I appreciate the great info. Thank you.
Very nice Quill. I haven't looked since your "Angry" tutorial for HoI4. Appreciate this.
heck yea dude, well done. Awesome job at making that overwhelming first turn feel manageable.
bought the game 2 weeks ago, finally feel like I can start a game. Thank you!
Don't usually comment stuff like this. However, this series is incredible. I had given up on ever learning this game until I finally saw this and it made sense.
Thanks for the help mate!
just bought the game on steam sale after being intimidated
for like forever, tnx for the kick off!
This helped me so much, thank you!! You’re a 10/10
Thanks a lot, man🖤 I think this is the perfect game during this curfew period😊
Thank you very much for this tutorial series ! EU4 player here, HoI4 always was appealing to me but when I started the game it was utterly different than EU4, was too scared to try.
Now I feel like I'm ready to start and spend another 500 hours on another Grand Strategy game, thanks to you !
Very informative. Well worth the time spent watching all 7 parts lol. Very well done, thank you sir.
Very well done, and all the UI tips really help get a handle on how to navigate the maze of twisty passages that are the ways to find info and move things.
I don't recall if you mentioned it, but the game has dynamic weather systems that move around the map too. Sandstorms really mess with your aircraft's ability to see anything, and snowstorms slow down troops even MORE than just being in the frozen wasteland. :)
Thank you for this series.
No, thank you! Absolutely awesome 7 part tutorial. It's helpful in so many different ways.
Thanks for detailed tutorial brother 👍 Appreciated your work
thank you for teaching us!
Yay I can finally play! Thanks so much, you have been so helpful!!
Im here for the stamp on the diploma for finishing the quill18 uni.
Ty this tutorial helps a lot
