Top tip: If your clothing is stained or overly worn, it's best to either take it to a textile recycling bin or discard it, rather than donate it. It's unlikely to sell at a charity shop and only going to clog up the donations system.
Yesss!! I used to work in a few charity shops & we had to throw away loads of things that were stained, ripped etc. People need to not be lazy & recycle things so the good things can be put out to sell.
For anyone who has a lot of clothes and not enough space: I divide my clothes between seasons, put the seasoned clothes that I can’t wear in airtight bags and then into bins. Works great!

One day it's winter and we are cold af and the next day is still winter and hot as hell ahahaha so we don't put away nothing! (And the work to do that stuff every 3 months lol)
A tip I have for when organising my clothes is that once you’ve sorted and are hanging them back up, hang them backwards (with the hanger bit hanging the other way..if you get me) then once you’ve worn it and are putting it away again, hang it the right way! This way when you come to clear out next year it’s really clear to see the clothes that you haven’t worn! 🖤

I feel the same way!! Ive been thrifting, buying on depop/poshmark/mercari and sometimes new 😭 to transition to a more casual goth all dark wardrobe. So decluttering makes it difficult cause ive hunted some things down. The easiest to declutter is my colored clothes cause i already know I’ve replaced with a black option or just don’t wear that color. So i know the feeling lol!!

Yes!! I've found organizing by sleeve length makes it extremely easy for me to actually keep it organized. And I'll do the same with the colour coding when I'm feelin fancy

yeah I think this year we cannot use the normal criteria of "have you worn it in the past year" because nobody went anywhere last year. It's not the clothes fault it didn't get worn.

Once you lose everything in a natural disaster, you learn how to let things go. I'm not gonna lie, it freaking sucked and it still haunts me, BUT I would've never done it on my own and literally the only thing I truly miss is the family photos. After going through that, your outlook on "stuff" changes. I went from having 5 closets full of clothes to 1 and the biggest thing that really keeps down the clutter, clothes, etc is just not buying them. I allow myself a few splurges, but that's it. If I don't absolutely love it or need it, I don't buy it. Whereas, I used to buy stuff just bc it was on sale, clearance, cause I kinda liked it, thought I might restyle it, it might fit if I lost 5 lbs, too lazy to try it on, I liked the color, it was brand name, etcccccc....i mean, I didn't need my arm twisted. Even worse, I'd buy things I loved and wouldn't wear them bc I was scared they would get messed up. Or id buy two, one to wear, one to save. Used to buy stuff for those hypothetical places I never went either. It was ridiculous. So, i learned the hard way that it's just clothes. What I thought I needed and what I really needed were two different things. I was still me with or without the "stuff" and with or without all the fancy clothes.
I have been homeless twice I lost everything except for what I had on me. I was wearing rags. My grandma gave me some clothes. Losing everything kinda turned me into a hoarder though.
I sort by type then color. all dresses are sorted by color, then my shirts by color, light jackets by color, then coats by color. everything else is folded. This works super well for me.
Jade! Love this video 💕 idea: keep 2 laundry baskets in your closet all year: (with lids on to block dust) that are labeled "sell" and "donate" with large ,clear letters. This way you can just dropp things in as you go and the big, annual declutter will be sooo much easier ❤️❤️❤️I always keep a donation bin in the bottom of my closet it helps sooo much 💕💕💕

That's how I organize mine, too! I can do the search for color, but also the type is already in its section. Granted most of my closet is black. But, ya know.
I bought some hooks that go over your hangers and over lap each other so you can get plenty of room. I even have them categorized like cardigans, lace, seasons, etc. I have so much clothes I actually use a closet app to look through the clothes and outfits
Hey ghoul hey! Just wanted to pop in and give a little trick I learned to help me get rid of clothes! When starting this method all you have to do is hang everything up with the hangers facing the same way and when you take down something, wash it, and go to hang it back up, turn the hanger the opposite way. This way when you go to clean your closet out again in a year (or however long you want) you see what you have worn and what you never wore in that year! This really helped me with clothes that I was hanging on to in hopes I would fit in them again or sentimental pieces and then that year passes and I never put it on.. I hope this helps someone out!

I have two methods in my hanging wardrobe sections. The top bar is all band tees, sorted alphabetically by band. The bottom bar is sorted by color - white on the left, colors in the center, black on the right. Within the color sorting, I do it by level of warmth - so a singlet would be followed by a crop tee, a crop with a collar, a regular tee, a long sleeve crop, and then a button up long sleeve top with collar. It works for me since Victoria Australia is such mad weather, I need access to the full range of my clothes, year round.

I am taking a bit longer than I wanted after hurting myself but my great friends are right there helping me so I plan to have it done by he end of February and I plan to clean all the walls and floors as I go. I have decided that this year no matter what ,I am going to get my bedframe built and get it and the headboard I built painted and in my room :) I am also going to finish several craft projects I have on the go and that means getting my son's frayed denim blanket and quilt out of my living room. For me going shelf by shelf . box by box or drawer by drawer helps me not get overwhelmed . I too love videos or music to keep me going :) Take Care

YES! I feel exactly the same way when I see these videos or see before and afters and felt like my decluttering part of my brain was broken or something and I needed to purge more haha!! Love it 🥰 The matching hangers definitely tie it all together. For anyone who on more of a budget, I get my matching black hangers from Ikea. Also, if you have a smaller closet, get a hanging rack to put in your room to display the clothes you like most (the cheapest ones at Ikea are white, but you could probably spray paint them any color). Most of all, organizing by color is my favorite... It just looks so much cleaner imo; wouldn't do it any other way!

I need comfortable so I officially only own one jean item- a moon print, semi stretch, short overalls, and no average bra: what most people picture when hearing the word 'bra'. I use very light padded cami/sports bras which are cure, comfort, some strappy so if it shows it looks like part of the design. Difficult to find large cups with a small band/ribcage that are comfortable and not crazy pricey. I'm a late bloomer so said screw regular bras.. and that's how I decide what to keep really. you should look into terracycle for the clothes that likely won't sell if they're donated (i bought a small box for like old undies and ratty shirts, etc.)

Or only take it to a thrift store that actually gathers older clothing to be sold to recyclers. Ask the management if you are not sure they take them.

I loveeeee my dyson! I can’t use any other vacuum now. It works everywhere too! Cat hair on the couch, carpet, hardwood, and even in the car. Love it.

Ouff I struggle finding declutter and cleaning vids that really scratch my itch w pacing and before n afters but you do it. Am so happy.

I have decided that this year no matter what ,I am going to get my bedframe built and get it and the headboard I built painted and in my room :) I am also going to finish several craft projects I have on the go and that means getting my son's frayed denim blanket and quilt out of my living room. For me going shelf by shelf . box by box or drawer by drawer helps me not get overwhelmed . I too love videos or music to keep me going :) Take Care

What I do is both at the same time - I first organize by type and then organize by color within each type .. kind of like how thrift stores do it

YES! I feel exactly the same way when I see these videos or see before and afters and felt like my decluttering part of my brain was broken or something and I needed to purge more haha!! But I think realistically everyone is different in what they keep in their home which is awesome, and I'm with you, I love my organized closet even if it isn't minimalism 🖤🖤🖤

Love it 🥰 The matching hangers definitely tie it all together. For anyone who on more of a budget, I get my matching black hangers from Ikea. Also, if you have a smaller closet, get a hanging rack to put in your room to display the clothes you like most (the cheapest ones at Ikea are white, but you could probably spray paint them any color). Most of all, organizing by color is my favorite... It just looks so much cleaner imo; wouldn't do it any other way!

I organize by color and within each color I organize shortest sleeves to longest followed by jackets or coats.

I need comfortable so I officially only own one jean item- a moon print, semi stretch, short overalls, and no average bra: what most people picture when hearing the word 'bra'. I use very light padded cami/sports bras which are cure, comfort, some strappy so if it shows it looks like part of the design.
Difficult to find large cups with a small band/ribcage that are comfortable and not crazy pricey. I'm a late bloomer so said screw regular bras.. and that's how I decide what to keep really.

Don’t feel bad! And don’t feel like you ever had to get rid of clothes if you have lots. I’m the same lol but it’s nice once in awhile go through my clothes and get rid of stuff I haven’t worn in awhile.

you should look into terracycle for the clothes that likely won't sell if they're donated (i bought a small box for like old undies and ratty shirts, etc.)
