- Double Doors, Recolor, Missiles and so much more! The wait is over and I'm glad I can finally share my mods to create the PERFECT Lego 75354 Coruscant Guard Gunship! I've been working on this tutorial since the set released, trying to finish it between my exams and work schedule. I wasn't willing to upload it until I thought it was flawless, so hopefully that explains the recent lack of new content :) I'm excited to hear what y'all think about the set and all of the mods I came up with!

I'm almost 30 and not into Lego anymore for at least an decade, but this set is tempting to draw me back. Mostly because of the smooth dark red colors and the huge potential I see in the imperfect standard model. Your mods are much needed, it looks gorgeous!
Thanks so much, I'm glad you liked the build! I was in a similar position having ignored Lego since around 2010. My girlfriend and I randomly picked up a couple sets one day during covid and have been collecting ever since, so I'd say go for it! Just know it gets pretty addicting haha

Hiya I attempted the double door mod today and would like to let you know I absolutely love it.
Unfortunately there seems to be two small mistakes in your additional parts list, which I'll mention here for anyone else attempting this build or in case you'd like to edit the description
- for the back door bottom the total number of "white 1x2 plate 3023" should be 4 instead of 2 (you need two per door to make the diagonal stripe)
- for the back door top the total number of "1x4 liftarm 32449" should also be 4 instead of 2. I think here you likely forgot to count the two pieces you swap out for the 1x5 liftarm that came with the set at the very beginning (where you did mention we'd need a total of 6 of those pieces for the complete build, which also slipped my mind while going over the part list to make my BL order).

I swear those holes were specifically places there for people like us that want to add floodlights. It just feels way too perfect.
For the empty part in the front, best I can think of is making it to where you can slot in a stretcher or something

For mine to upgrade the Palpatine minifigure I added the red shoulder pads from the arc trooper that came in set number 9488. The shoulder pads make him look like he isn’t wearing a dress and that he is actually wearing robes.

I like your thinking for the replacement of clone pilots. But we do see CG troopers fly both the Republic Police Gunship and this one. There is no detail about whether or not CG troopers had pilot training. Or perhaps actual clone pilots were saved for the battlefield, so the CG had to train its troops in different vehicle handling? The Phase 3 Pilot Jumpsuit was made for high velocity due to full body armour limiting comfort and giving potentiall injuries when flying. So that's the only thing that sticks out together with the minifigures lego prints on this set. But of course each owner decideds. Great mods though!
Thanks! That's definitely valid. Honestly, I think the most accurate fig would have been a generic version of the pilot from the 2013 Z-95, but Lego only made a 501st version. If you wanna look into it there's a great video from Geetsly's called "Why was Clone Pilot armour so Inconsistent?", that's where I finally got some answers haha

The storage spot is funky. I just made a gun rack, 12 pistols, that slides in easily. also added another joint to the doors so they lift out of the way more.
Nice, how big is the gun rack? I thought about doing that to the doors too but it seemed like a hassle haha

If anyone wants to keep their stud shooters on the ship, get yourself a 4x4 turntable with square base. You can rotate your turrets 360.

As someone who doesn't really fuck with lego. This is really neat. I tend to lean more toward plastic model kits and I wish we'd get a 1/100 scale LAAt
0:52 I did something similar with my pilots I went with the phase 2 Clone Wars pilots From Clone Army Customs just red.

It’s literally more accurate to how big the ship actually is. Every other gunship previously has been far too large.

So, i basically scrapped the top cockpit and tiled it off with white. And then built a properly proportioned cockpit section out of bricks.
It cant seat minifigures, but i think the accurate proportions make the model look so much better
If only Lego Digital Designer was still a big thing, I would take the 2013 Gunship and use that as my base to make a Coruscant Guard Gunship. This set is just small compared to the 2013 and 2008 one.
I just use the original shock troopers as pilots I think it looks pretty good

A comment on the pilot thing. The gunship we see appears in a couple TCW episodes. The gunship is also seen flying from starships to planet surface to escort senators and republic officials. Since the gunships seen in the mandalorian seem to act more like planetary police patrol vehicles, it feels more accurate to use actual pilots for gunships that also fly through space, without the police role.
I would to see a tutorial on these because I’m planing on getting this set soon

One more change I would give to one of the minifigures is swapping out Padmés head for the older unique Padmé head from 2013, as this new one is just a re-use of the Jyn Erso/Black Widow head we see on lots of different characters nowadays

What are your thoughts on solid bricks double doors
I'm pretty sure he got that design from another youtuber called ewok pilot. I think his design was good enough at the time, especially since not many people had the set yet. That being said, his mod creates huge gaps between the doors and the ship so the doors can't close all the way. That's why I spent a good chunk of time making sure my version is 100% seamless ( 5:44 ).
I don't have the gunship yet, but if i get it I'll have to change the doors for sure. Right now I'm still debating if i should buy the set or build a MOC. The main allure for me are Chancellor Palps and Fox since i don't have either

Only gripe with this is the flood lights are in the wrong spot, they should be where the ball turrets would regularly sit
I definitely will try out your doors, but after even trying out the hinge configuration, i have to say that just one hinge is not enough here. I think I'll slightly extent the upper part of the doors and attach another hinge there to create that smooth, paralel movement instead. No offense but single hinge makes otherwise really solid design looks floppy and flimsy.
I fear double hinge might not work with cargo hold doors, but that's something for me to worry later about

One question: why did you add the 1x2 slope on the back of the dome piece? Is that necessary for build stability or just for aesthetics?
One suggestion: If you want to make the bottom of the wing turret similar to the top, have you considered the stud reversal technique used in czcams.com/video/OhBINQPGpOU/video.htmlsi=ZbdPfQTXqZfjFtWk to (partially) mirror the build on the top part?
Thanks, I'm glad you liked the mods! I added the 1x2 slopes to look a bit more like the source materiel (i.e. 13:30), purely aesthetic.
As for the stud reversal build, I actually had seen that prior to making this video. I think it's a cool mod and definitely an improvement compared to the original. It just seemed too oblong in my opinion, like a pill capsule was placed in the wing. While my version may be less detailed, I think it better matches the source materiel and the style/ complexity of the rest of the build. The white dome pieces also pop beautifully in conjunction with the 06:27 Flood Lights and the 08:46 Recolor mods!
I fully agree that the version in that video is a little bit too-extra, using translucent pieces and another mini build inside. However, I do think it can look amazing if done with the more simpler white dome pieces, which is what I plan on implementing soon.
What are the stand pieces called?
They are "Support 4 x 4 x 5 Stanchion" Item # 2680. I think they're from the old Lego monorail sets from the late 80s and 90s.
Can you make the double doors with prices from the set, minus the windows and 1x4 technic
The 1x4 technic pieces are necessary unfortunately, at least for this design. You also need 2 more of the dark grey technic pins like the one at 3:06 (on the right side)

Real set! Came out in August last summer
They probably mean that the front door isn’t sturdy enough. You’d somehow have to fit two hinges which is hard even on the 2013 model. Trust me I tried

0:52 you accidentally called the pilots phase 2 pilots when they are wearing phase 3 armor. You see the phase 2 pilots mostly in star wars the clone wars. 1 example is in the umbara arc

Wow. I have to say, LEGO really just put so little effort into this set and it shows. I might still get it just cause I love the CG, but the fact you have to make so many little replacements and mods to make it look and function how it's supposed to is upsetting. Especially since the changes are so easy to make, and LEGO could've made it like that to begin with without any difficulty if they had just tried. The doors, the color inaccuracies, the hodge-podged Fox minifigure that requires a complete body transfer and accessory replacements/additions. Honestly it's just really sad. At least we've got the new battlepack coming out that is TOTALLY awesome at a fair price.
Surprisingly enough, I actually had more fun fixing the set than building it from the instructions! The inaccurate Fox torso is definitely upsetting though, the minifig designer could have fixed the render with literally 1 click of a button. Just seems lazy. Overall I'd still recommend the set, especially with that new battle pack right around the corner!

3:33 how is a pin inside a brick with hole more sturdier? It's a giant pivot point. There are mods that use axle pieces with additional brick with axle holes or plates with hole on the bottom that are much sturdier.
I haven’t had any issues with it staying tightly in place. From all those mods that I’ve seen, they all either block the door from closing properly, knock down the minifigs inside, or make the front door too small. But if you’ve personally made it work better on your model let me know how and I’ll make some changes if it’s a good solution!
The flood lights should be moved back and attached where the dark grey circle mount area is. Where the manned ball turrets would have been.
That would get in the way of the double doors. I tried a few designs like that but making the lights longer just ends up looking goofy at this scale
Idk why I’m watching this. I will never own anything like this unfortunately. I just can’t justify spending that much money on something like this.
