Robert De Niro's Waiting has a darker edge to its meaning. It's about a girl who was raped while walking home and is now unable to form relationships with others, so escapes her traumatic life by staying home and fantasising about Robert De Niro and how he will protect her forever.
They are such pioneers for all girl pop groups. You see very early madonna & the influence they had on her in the early 80s. The fact theyre still going strong 40 years later is incredible. They are the Tom cruise of pop groups!
Robert de Niro actually invited them for dinner when the song came out, the way they mix such a light tune with the dark subject matter is just brilliant.
Sarah & Keren must be closer than sisters at this point they have stuck together so long. Sisters dont spend that much time together for 40 years! Their vocals are still gorgeous. This final song doesnt have that classic wall of sound Bananrama signature but the harmonies are stunning.
You definitely need to check out the band Shakespears Sister which Siobhan formed after she left Bananarama (she’s the one with the red ribbon in her hair in the De Niro video) They had a huge hit in the UK especially in the early 90s called “Stay” which is completely different to anything Bananarama ever did and I’ll think you’ll be pretty surprised.
I love Robert DeNiro's Waiting. So glad you did that one! It's such an adorable video and great song. More Than Physical was my favorite of the "dance" Bananarama sound, and it was great how they turned the tables on the cheesecake with liberal amounts of beefcake. And Rough Justice was one of the rare "serious" songs from the band, and I always enjoyed it.
I love Cruel Summer which I was re-acquainted with on one of your earlier Banarama videos .... it's now on my regular playlist !. That and 'Venus' are my favourites.
Some of the darker, slower tempo songs in this selection. Bananarama ended up being known for the poppy dance tracks, and the darker material and slower stuff never did so well, but I love Robert de Niro's Waiting, Rough Justice, and also Trick of the Night. They definitely deserve credit for these, too. On an aside, completely unconnected to Bananarama, but Bryson, I think you would really enjoy End Of The World by Matt Alber, a relatively unknown singer-songwriter. Go on, give it a try!!!

Did you see at the end of Robert de niro the pizza delivery guy turns round and you see the pizza place is called Corleone's.corleone is the name of the ganster family in the god father.robert de niro was in the 2bd one in the flash back.i think he played a young don Corleone who is the head of the family and is played by marlon brando in the first movie.
Robert DeNiro has my heart forever and ever...but Masquerade is absolutely spectacular too. Trick of the Night (which you have reviewed) is probably my favorite song, the harmonies and lyrics are absolutely brilliant. 🍌 🍌 🍌
I agree with your favourites. But I like "Robert de Niro's waiting" a bit more. The harmonies and synths in that song are great (I can't get it out of my head - thx 😀) and the girls looked amazing in that video.

"Masquerade" is indeed from 2022. The third girl (Siobhan) had already left in February 1988 to form Shakespears Sister of "Stay" fame who reunited in 2018 following the Bananarama "Original Line-up Tour" 2017 where Siobhan was with them again after 30 years.
My fave of these is "More Than Physical". I like pretty much anything produced by Stock Aitken & Waterman. I'm not a fan of any of their more current music. The last album I bought of theirs is "Drama". I kinda soured on them since I heard (from 2 reliable sources who worked with them on their "WOW!" album) that they're difficult to work with & prima donnas.
