I’m pretty proud of this one! Making this video made me appreciate this song so much more than before.
I have to mention, I didn’t find out until a couple of days ago when the creation was well underway, that someone has recently released a compilation of this. I normally try not to post songs that people have done recently but as you guys know from my poll on the community page, I’ve been planning this one for almost 2 months. I started working on it casually in April of this year. So I mean no disrespect to anyone by going ahead and releasing this one now.
Big thanks, as always, to you guys… the viewers. You guys are fantastic! 💜
A few new things I heard that I never noticed before:
    1. Bells or steel drums during the reggae sections
    2. Ting ting ting of the triangle throughout (also the bell of a cymbal at parts)
    3. Slight whispering behind a couple lines of the chorus
    I HIGHLY RECOMMEND:
ONUKA (Ukrainian artist who I recently discovered and she is AMAZING!)

Excellent job on this - can you imagine how difficult it would have been for Rush to get air play in the 1980s especially with a song that lightly criticizes radio. Their success, as they have often mentioned, is due to their very loyal fans.

Just for context, I grew up a few blocks away from Geddy Lee back in the day. This song was a direct reference to a local independent radio station that broadcast from Brampton Ontario in the '70's. CFNY 102.1 their slogan was "CFNY - The Spirit of Radio" they had no playlists. They played obscure underground music of all types. No corporate rock. The different music breaks were referencing this, as they had a Reggie DJ as well who had his own segment. Rush loved them. Peace.

They were still doing interesting things in the late 80’s early 90’s, playing rock bands that were under the radar from the UK and North America, embraced the club scene and underground rave scene in Toronto at the time. Deadly Hedley was a great DJ at the time and if he liked a song he’d give it another spin and say “ So Nice We Have to Hear it Twice” with a slight Jamaican accent and it was always a big tune if not at the time than a month later. Good times.

We had two independent radio stations where I live back in the day and they were both college radio. Two really different formats. One had regular dj’s playing a more freeform format and the other station were college students filling in for an hour or two sometimes three. We had a black and white uhf television station that played music videos at least two years before anybody ever heard of mtv. All these independent stations really broadened my sense of music appreciation and awareness. I’m really lucky to grow up back then

@yyz4761 was that Muchmusic? Or a forerunner....I could DX sometimes, clock in MuchMusic videos from CANADA all the way out in Cleveland. In the US, we had community or listener supported radio as well as college stations. The community radio were run by a board of volunteer governors, and they usually had large libraries of real vinyl, especially reggae, but also classical, to punk to old blues, and barbershop quartet. I dont know how many are still in operation now. These would be dream places to sample from like they do in today's dance music, but that technology didn't really exist back then. Commercial radio probably doesn't have vinyl libraries at all nowadays. WMMS Cleveland broke RUSH in the states after they played "Working Man" which became a gianormous hit locally.

RUSH is THE PERFECT EXAMPLE of the fluidity of MASTERING TIME SIGNATURES! I play drums and there are a few things that you need to know about Neil Peart’s ( pronounced PEER-T) character: First he writes the lyrics so he knows in advance what TYPE of song it’s meant to be ie ballad, driver, etc. Second he COMPOSES on the drums… like a carpenter who looks at a set of blueprints before building the object. Neil lays out a SKETCH in his mind of the VOICES of the drumset and builds the song from there. He is also a great LISTENER knowing when NOT to step over Geddy’s singing or Alex’s solos! Finally, he had perfect timing and fluidity of time changes. He said himself that it’s not about COUNTING the time signatures as much as fluid motion to change the tempo without counting: in other words it should FLOW! He hates repeating the same drum patterns in the same song meaning if he plays a fill one way the first time around he will play it differently the second time around. IE. Rolls down the toms the first time around and triplets or quads (all four limbs) the second time around. In short there will NEVER be another like him on planet earth 🌍 🌏 🌎! REST IN PEACE PROFESSOR!
With heart felt admiration and sincerity!

I've often wondered what it is that makes reaction videos so entertaining. To answer, at least for myself, it is twofold: (a) first, it is about watching people experience the joy I had when I first discovered Rush and their greatness; and (b) second, it is about sharing what I've since learned since and helping them along in their future discoveries. What a tremendous tribute to the most beloved and, at once, underrated, band in history and one of their many great compositions! Thank you for this masterwork - about a masterwork!

Pretty simple : you get in your car in the morning and turn on the radio, looking for your jam, you turn the different channels searching for a song to make you happy.

    RUSH: MASTERS OF TIME SIGNATURES:
They don't sit down and say "Let's write in (x) time signature." They just write what they feel.
    Jacob's Ladder alternates between 5/4, 6/4 and 7/4, then 6/8 and 7/8.
    Limelight is 7/4 not 7/8.
The middle of La Villa (A Lerxst in Wonderland) is in 7/8.
Kid Gloves is in 5/4 for the intro and verses and 4/4 for choruses.
The Trees starts in 3/4, moves into 4/4 and the solo section is 5/4.

    Another masterpiece!
It’s crazy to think that during the mid 80’s I actually got a little tired of listening to Rush, they were everywhere, selling out stadiums for decades, however, seeing all these reactors react to songs for the first time makes me love all these songs even more than I did before!
I know it’s a lot of work to put these together, but I (we) are grateful, and I (we) hope you never stop!
    Thank you Ms. Wonder!

I adore when ppl hear my favorite band & of course the GREATEST band of all time RUSH. I flipped over the Holy Trinity of rock from day one in June of 74 at 14 years old & playing Bass three years at the time. I'm 62 going on 63 & I've never put it down. To this day I'm still rocking out on stage in local bands & I must admit, Rush was the ONLY BAND EVERY ALBUM made me run home when I got they're new album at the time & grab my bass & want to learn not only every song they recorded but learn theroy time signitures rudements, the whole bass & music shabangabang. The greatest music teachers I ever had & they never knew what they did to that 14 year old kid back then ha ha.

NEIL PEART’S NARRATION ON EXIT STAGE LEFT DVD:
There’s a tremendous ambiance about a concert hall…to even before a band starts playing…from the time the doors open..this place feels electric you know!
That’s one of the things I like most about the road that feeling of standing in the hall when the doors open feel the excitement bursting into the hall.
I must admit I feel very comfortable playing live a lot!
A very modern urban setting for that Tom Sawyer mentality and a very carefree stride and a very self-possessed kind of air.
Xanadu: The question we tend to ask the most often is WHAT IF? I think of you had to simplify a motivation or simplify a moving force in our music that would probably…suffice!
Red Barchetta: Well it seems to me a car is one of those handy metaphors and volumes have been written about the sociological and cultural impact of the car and what it represents but it also has a very fundamental sensual feel and it’s a metaphor for sexuality and freedom.
We’ve certainly tried to guide everything by the principles that were interested in and the freedom of choice and the material we’ve been playing and expression of music that we found to be exciting would excite other people as well.
If the songwriting is important and playing really well on stage is important it’s gonna make the difference between feeling good or not feeling good when I walk off stage feeling that I played as well as I can or as close to well as I can then I feel very satisfied and good for what you have done.
    YYZED:
I think there is a very strong relation maybe not generally recognized between drums and between words as the rhythmic structure and phrasing and the rhythm of verse especially is very strongly rooted in the same syncopation as drums the same patterns of thinking overall work for me with words as much as they do with drum beats.

This came out near the end of 5th grade. I was going through puberty and it was harsh year on me because I was the 1st boy in my grade to deal with it... at least I think I was. Also pretty sure that this song saved me. I recall distinctly playing it in my head in one of the classrooms near the end of the year and just feeling an unmistakable and remarkable feeling of uphoria and calmness... maybe because the lyrics talked of the struggle and the joy of something so wonderful as radio - and I loved the radio so much - and I understood that something so great is sometimes not easy to deal with... and so is life... so everytime I hear this song I get the same feeling of uphoria... 😄and then just a little bit of melancholy..🥺
So effing good. To this very day.

These younger folks miss the radio point. It’s not that it was a new technology, it was a shared experience. I think the reason these reaction videos are so popular is it creates the illusion of the shared experience which is how most of us encountered music. We weren’t all running around with headphones listening to what suited our personal tastes every second of the day.
