Washi doing with your Swiss army knife?

  • I love Swiss army knives, but they don't always have the style I'm looking for. Swiss army knives can be made more beautiful with washi tape. This removable, colorful tape can be applied and removed and replaced with other patterns and designs and colors to give you a personalized Swiss army knife, which matches your clothes, mood or favorite sports team. Make your Swiss army knife a beautiful Swiss army knife.

    I can see this idea as a temporary customisation for a day out but not permanent. Victorinox have many designs available for the classic SD, but not yet expanded this choice to the larger knife range.

      @thevineclimber  Před 9 měsíci +2

      I hope that they do come out with more scales with designs, but I think that we will have enough customization options and third-party manufacturers who can give us what we are looking for in the future if this trend holds. I think the most important thing is that they focus on staying financially solvent. Because I would hate to see that company go down!!
      Totally agree this is temporary only not something I would do every day.

    I feel like the next step would be to washi paper the scales - especially since you could probably find a glue that will both work with the paper and be good on the scales too. And then you also wouldn’t have to have the square edges, the washi could be cut to fit the scale perfectly. And, technically after you applied washi paper you could then coat the paper as well to further protect it. Amazing vid, as always 💜

    • @thevineclimber
      @thevineclimber  Před 9 měsíci +2

      Yes, I think that several people really are interested in that but I'm not sure how that's gonna work. I feel like it would be much harder to do I think maybe we could cut it so that it would sit on the flat part of the scales and then we could coat it?

    Hi Anne, a very interesting approach. I like it. I modified my Vic last year with a stripe of grip tape. Works from a functional perspektive phenomenal.

    • @thevineclimber
      @thevineclimber  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Yes! Marcel. We've talked about this before. And I attempted to purchase grip tape but everything I found was way too rough.. You know I have some kind of tape that I don't really like in my basement that's grippy, but it isn't grip tape. When you say grip tape, are you talking about like for skateboards? Which is the only one I know.

      @thevineclimber  Před 9 měsíci +1

      I love the sticker customization options for kids who are allowed to have a Swiss army knife which seem to be remarkably few. Or for adults who have a kid who wants to customize their Swiss army knife! The thing about it is that the scales are replaceable. She can sticker it up all she wants now and if you get sick of it or the stickers wear off or whatever, you can just buy new scales, no biggie.
      To be honest, I am completely sick of my nail polish scales and cannot wait to take them off. I ordered some white plus scales from Messerspezi today.

    • @nirfz
      @nirfz Před 9 měsíci +1

      Probably. Super glue also is used as a clear coat in some applications.
      (My father like woodturning, and after talking to someone who made pens for a long time he has startet coating the wood part of any writing instrument he makes with super glue. Makes for a hard and durable finish, but best to wear gloves ;-) )

    Great video as usual.
    Needless to say Kathy wants to washi tape one of her SAK's. She also wants to use the washi tape on other things.
    I'm afraid I'm going wake up one morning & be a Wasi tape mummy. LoL !!!

      The good news for you. If you end up a washy tape mummy is that it really isn't all that sticky. And I hope you will be able to get out of it. I have to admit it's too fun because I'm not good enough at art skills to make things look good. But I sure like it when they're pretty.

    Until you peeled it off again i thought you were going for something permanent and was curious what would have you tried in using as clear coat. Took me a little to get that you have the whole box of tape to be able to change the tape when you feel like it instead of having to buy new scales.

    • @thevineclimber

    I have a good technique to make protector stickers for swiss army knifes. You just draw around a removed scale or a 3d printed one. Than with a pair of calipes you just trace the same line to make it 2-3 mm smaller to compensate for the radius Be careful about the mirroring dont ask how i know this... 😂

    • @thevineclimber
      @thevineclimber  Před 9 měsíci

      That sounds really cool... what do you make them out of? It would have to flex around the rounded edges, right? Lol mirroring

      @@thevineclimber I used leftover 3D printer base material called Buildtak it's like a sheat of matte plastic with heat resistant adhesive at the back. The final result looks like the evogrip. Not winning any contest but protects the celidor.

    • @thevineclimber
      @thevineclimber  Před 6 měsíci +1

      I have not. Just today, somebody else suggested some kind of nail stickers with clear over it. I think it would be totally reasonable. The problem with the nail polish is that it tends to dry a little bit lumpy. And so maybe I'd use smaller pieces. Let's try it!

      I cannot deny that I absolutely love my Rovyvon A8. It does everything, but you have to be willing to learn the user interface. And many people I know, both male and female, aren't particularly interested in remembering that 4 clicks is the white side light and 3 clicks followed by one click is the red side light. It is extremely lightweight and it has a magnetic tail cap which is optional and also a magnetic clip. If you don't think she would want any of that stuff and would want a sleeker user interface, I like the Olight I1R 2 Pro Eos. To turn it on low, you just rotate it and then rotate it further to turn it on high to charge it. Rotate it all the way the other direction and a USB c port pops open. It really couldn't be sleeker. In between those 2 is the Rovyvon A1. It goes up to 650 lm which I really like and while it doesn't have any of the sidelight business, it does have a variety of things that can do with the regular light with a varying number of button pushes.
