Great information Ronnie. I’ve been following you and a couple of more wood workers and decided to sell some of my furniture. Within a week I have my first customer, she wants two end tables. I also have a quote out for a kitchen banquet, which looks positive. Thanks for all the information you have posted, it has helped me get started.

Hello Ronnie, thank you for your videos and willingness to "prompt" woodworking folks to GET STARTED. I watched a lot of your videos, this video is the blueprint I am using to list. I am listing my first handcrafted item today. When someone "orders" a piece from you how do you handle the payment part? do you ask for 1/2 the payment upfront or what's your advice? Also 1 more thing, after watching your videos I am drawn to starting a YT channel, I have been a woodworker for many years (I'm your age) and have sold many pieces, I have been thinking about YT lately. Would you consider making a YT video about starting a woodworking channel for beginners? Thank you again, Ronnie, your videos I'm sure are helping a lot of people. PS... awesome job on the kitchen, (I built and put in our new kitchen 2 yrs ago).
Thanks @J.P.Kennedy. Great job taking action and listing your item! That's what I like to see. As far as payment goes for orders, I don't ask for anything upfront. I figure I can sell it to someone else if I had to. I haven't had anyone not show up for the piece yet. Maybe if it was an unusual item I might consider a partial payment upfront. I just haven't come across that yet. As far as starting a CZcams channel I say go for it if that's what interests you. There are plenty of channels dedicated to teaching how to start one. I don't want to do a video on it because that's not what my channel is about. That's one thing you should know when starting a channel and that's to stick with what the main theme of your channel is. That will help CZcams's algorithm figure out who to show your videos to. It's a lot of work but it's rewarding too. Let me know how the listing goes and thanks for watching!

Just found your video and after watching for a bit I subscribed. I recently shut down my small remodel business (semi retirement) and am transitioning to a custom woodworking only business. I've been building and selling made to order furniture pieces starting about 15 or so years ago. It actually grew to about 50% of my normal work. All my pieces have sold via word of mouth/referrals and I've never advertised but now I find myself actually looking for a way to market as my backlog of projects is winding down. I'm in unfamiliar territory here and your videos are very informative and I think this may be the way to go.
One of my biggest questions would be price point. A lot of my work has been made to order and has sold for really decent money. Is the Facebook market geared to more inexpensive pieces under $500.00? Looking forward to more of your vids.

Hey, thanks for stopping by! Pricing is dependent on where your market is, demand for your style, etc. I would just put your piece out there and see how it goes. If too fast, raise the price. You’ll get a feel for what things go for in your area. Just don’t give up, always try new tactics, price point, better staged photos, etc. good luck!

@@RonniesWorkshop I actually ended up using the boost for the 4th of July weekend and it did increase the views by a lot, and as soon as it ended the ad got buried again. I just re-titled it to a more generic description and used some of your keywords a few hours ago.

Thanks for watching. Well, for me, I make so I have something to sell. I haven't done any furniture flipping, which is an option if you can't build for some reason. Selling my furniture that I've built has led to orders for more, either from the same buyer or someone else who saw the ad.
@@RonniesWorkshop I do build, mostly large things for my workshop, so I think in my case I would have to take orders for, as an example, a workbench with a built-in table saw, which would offer giving the buyer some design options. Hello and Thank you for your information.When re-listing an item on Marketplace..is there any difference regarding views if you simply re-list the item by clicking on the relist button or removing the item and listing it as a new listing? Thanks
If you remove the item and then relist you will lose the statistics on the original posting. If you're talking about the amount of views vs each scenario that is really up to Facebook and how their algorythm works on any given day. That's why I always spend the few dollars to boost a listing. Thanks for stopping by!
Great video, Ronnie. Question for you -- if you put a tag called "table" and then another tag with "rustic", do you need to put a tag called "rustic table"? I guess what I'm asking is whether or not tags add together? If they do, then you only need to tag individual words (single words) and let the combinations of them do the work for you. Does that make sense?

Ronnie, thank you for this great video. I build, refinish, and repurpose furniture. It is the most fulfilling experience, mostly lol. My issues are finding places to sell. My question is, how do you deal with the scammers? I've spent so much time chatting with people only to discover they were not really customers. It has made me feel like I'm wasting my time and will not be able to make this happen.
Hi Kimberly. Thanks for stopping by! Ah, scammers..... I sell on FB Marketplace. The very first thing I do when I get a message is look at the sender's profile. If they have a history of posts, photos, etc that's when I'm able to filter out the "good" prospects from suspicious ones. If they just created an account, have no posts (or profile pic), I don't even bother with a response. Also, even if they do have history, NEVER give out any personal information. You may get, "give me your phone number so I can talk to you about this", or " I want this now, give me your phone number so we can talk"... something like that. That is a red flag to me. As far as the financial aspect. I tell them I only take cash, Paypal, or Venmo. I may go to Zelle, I'm not sure yet. If they try and lowball me I just politely decline. You have to decide ahead of time what you're willing to take, on the low end. If someone says no, then move on, it's not anything personal against you, it's just a deal that is not right for them. I hope some of this helps. It can be a hassle, but I just accept it as part of the business. I wish you success!

If we wanted to give the option for shipping on fb marketplace, what would you suggest we do packaging wise, shipping wise, who to use for shipping, etc? Doing it the most convenient way, with buyer paying shipping!

Hi Chris, I take payment when the customer comes to pick up. I tell them up front that I accept Paypal or cash. I've never had someone not show up to get the furniture. I'm confident if I ever did run into that situation I'd be able to sell the item to someone else. Thanks for stopping by!

You mention pricing for your market but that seems hard to know especially when getting into it. Do you go by any formula to set pricing to make sure you get paid not only for the material but also the labor that it costs to make plus a profit?
Hi David. What I did starting out is check Facebook Marketplace in my area for the type of item that I was building. In my case it was an end table. I looked at multiple listings to get an idea what they were going for. I actually priced below the average which resulted in a fast sale. I quickly learned that I needed to price higher to get a reasonable return. As far as a formula goes I've settled on price of lumber, then add 10% of that on for screws, stain, glue, etc. then I will set price at around 4-5 times that to cover labor and profit. In my area I'm able to do that and still get sales. I'm not too set in stone on that as depending on the piece, time of year, and demand I may need to adjust. I also am not too concerned about how my hourly rate works out. I get the job finished to the best of my ability and not worry about what I'm making per hour. I'm retired so this is side money for me. I'd rather get a good reputation through word of mouth rather than try to get it finished as soon as I can. This has allowed me to raise my price over time as I have a reputation for doing quality work. I hope that helps.

I'm about to post my first piece. I'm a flipper, not a builder...yet. I am confident in my staging and my pics. I am so confused about how to price things. So...experimentation. I'm also slightly worried about scammers/creepers. Any advice on what to do once people start contacting you via FB Marketplace?
Good job taking action! The first piece was the hardest for me just because of the unknowns. It gets better the more experience you get. As far as pricing I'd look at similar items in your area and price accordingly. As far as dealing with people once they start contacting me I've not had any bad experiences. I've had some make ridiculous offers but I ingore those. You need to decide if you're comfortable with poeple coming to your place to look/pick up the piece. I haven't had a Boost button in years. It is not there anymore. Ad account is active and billing info up to date. No way to boost Marketplace listing anymore.
Have you tried contacting FB about it? I'm sure as long as you're in good standing they would want your money. :)
