Interior in great condition besides the little RIP on almost drive side bottom leather. Its phantom gray with gray interior. That was another plus. I hate the tan interior. SR5 with leather, sunroof, n rear ratch spoiler. Now it's all lift with new uca, ball joints, lca, kn intake, stoptech brakes n rotors, adjustable sway end links, adjustable rear trailing arms, 17x9 SCS wheels on 33 in Wildpeak MT's. No rust. Also you will pay a premium for one in good shape. Little less for fair or need some work interior or body. I was lucky to find and jumped on it.

    Parents bought one new in 01, I learned to drive in it, bought it from them with 175K miles, sold it at 280K, and not for pennies either. Many of those miles were in the snow or dirt, the 4wd capabilities are underrated for sure (it's got a 2 speed manual transfer case). It had a timing belt service, new shocks and replaced the trunk latch, that's all. No idea where it is now but I'd bet my life it's still running haha. Also the first gens had a solid rear axle, pretty sure the new ones are full independent. I always tell my friends who want a land cruiser to get one of these instead, the extra 10K you'll spend on a LC is not worth the added capabilities imo.

    We own a 2001 Toyota Sequoia Limited 4x4 which is 20 years old this year. It was originally a Toyota corporate fleet car and we bought it when it was two years old. We just maintain it and keep driving it. It has been our transportation some of our favorite family vacations including from California to Yellowstone and back. We re-did the upholstery and paint in factory jade green with tan leather interior. Minor issue is the 2001 seal in the exhaust manifold and the latch on the rear hatch which is discussed in this video. New radiator at 200k miles new starter motor, and other than that, routine maintenance. We love the sound it makes every day when it starts up. It may next be the car for our 16 year old daughter. Repairs during the last 6 years included: New 4WDrive tranny, New frame (under recall), rear latch (twice), rear window lower frame, brakes 3 times, transmission cable rusted at transmission connection, muffler, front ball joints, leaky rear differential, and leaky rear air suspension. Even though undercoated, the rust is gaining on her. Not too shabby for a 16-year-old! The 4-wheel drive is amazing in the snow. And I always feel comfortable and secure when I drive it. You overlooked the biggest selling point in my opinion and that is the IIHS study that had this as one of only five vehicles with ZERO driver deaths. It is not just safe on paper, it's real world safe. Taho and Expedition can't say that. The one weak spot it definitely RUST, but Toyota has agreed to replace the frame for most owners with that problem. I have a second generation and I agree that it is under appreciated. I think it's like if the Sienna and the Land Cruiser had a baby. Not quite as off-road ready as the LC, but much easier on my family.

You might ask, why keep the 04 over the 13? We felt the 13 (with its larger wheel base) felt less reliable in the snow than the 2004. We drive 45 minutes to work, so when it snows, I need something that can drive further than a couple miles safely in the snow. The 2004 now has over 300k miles.

I begged her to get the Sequoia, but she said “No, I’m a Chevy girl!” She bought the Yukon. The transmission died only a few months later. The same thing happened on her son’s Tahoe that he bought from my dealership. Of course these were trade-in vehicles and nobody could have predicted it. Bought a 2001 when we had triplets. Live in TX. Took them literally across the continent many times to Miami/Orlando/Cape Canaveral, Washington DC/NY/Boston/Ottawa/Toronto, Seattle, Lake Tahoe/SF, Grand Canyon/LA, Yellowstone and multiple trips to CO ski towns. The kids learned to drive in the Sequoia. One of them is driving it at college with 230k miles. Great vehicle!
    Found a fix for the notorious breaking hatch handle (plastic of the oem couldn't take thermal cycles plus stress of poorly lubed hatch mechanism). Found an after market stamped steel hatch handle. Installed it 8 yrs ago. Never had a problem since. Not sure where I found it. Was a small company.
    Triplet driving the Sequoia will be getting a new Tacoma in the Spring. Planning to do a major refurb (Carplay Head unit + engine/trans/suspension maint/upgrades) and keep the Sequoia. Only work I've had to do other than wear items (brakes/tires/water pump and alternator) and fluids is paint. We got a dark green metallic that just didn't hold up. Pretty badly oxidized at 15 yrs. Had it repainted black. Also replaced interior upholstery (skins) for about $350 (dealer selling excess oem on ebay). Oem leather looked rough after 15 yrs of triplets. Looks great now.

    I have a 2005 Limited 4WD w 160,000 miles that’s lives on the West coast in the rain (not the salt covered snowy roads). It has been bullet proof so far. Have towed a 19 foot Jayco all over the mountains and more recently a 26 ft Ultralight from Canada to the Florida Keys. I have always exceeded the recommended maintenance and it’s never complained or let me down once. It passes everything except gas stations. This also means my dogs have never peed in it lol. I was looking at upgrading over the past few years but my wife does the same test in each vehicle- the third row test. So far she’s not been impressed by anything new. The Sequioia has the most spacious and comfortable third row, hands down. I have had adults back there for many long driving days in a row with no groaning. It squats under load, true. But with the right equalizer hitch and trailer sway control, it’s been a real champ through hail in the desert and through the Santa Ana’s in California. It will be a sad day when we have to say goodbye. Really.

    • @kpokfposkf
      @kpokfposkf Před 3 lety +2

      yea these are much more expensive (to purchase and upkeep) comparing to something like a Honda Pilot during the mid-2000s (even now in used markets), these sequoias (LX, GX, and Land Cruisers), although seemed roomy, are actually not practical compared to other 3-row SUVs, lacks folding flat 3rd row seats (magic seats) and 2nd row folds upwards instead of being flat. Reliability wise, my pilot has 200k miles with original engine and trans still drives like new, I have seen some guy on Instagram approaching 700k km on the odometer. You can probably get a decent 1st gen Honda pilot used for 3k-5k CAD or 2k-4k USD lol. Plus, you're gonna get 20 mpg on the highway and about 17 mpg in the city if you are easy on the pedal, comparing to sequoias 12/15 mpg.

I live in western NC and behind every Toyota dealership you can see 3-4 brand new frames waiting to be swapped out for rotten frames on Tacoma’s, sequoias or tundras. It’s great and awesome that Toyota is wiling to swap out the frames but my god that is the back bone of truck. The frame should be the last thing to go.
