Irons is an amazing villain for several reasons, but mainly because he appeals to what people think is right and wrong. The reason his betrayal works so well is because the player so far has only seen the positives of a person who doesn't need any kind of governmental approval and is doing what is "right" by their standards. Then the player is given a cold hard look at the reality of a person who doesn't care about rules and regulations and wields absolute power, Irons does what he believes is right even if by everyone else's standards it's monstrous. 9:54 I love the cinematography in this scene. The fear and concern in the man’s voice. Irons’s “no” which makes the characters freeze, but Irons eases the concern into reassurance when he says they will “tell everyone”. Then when the audience feels he’s going to stop the attacks, he turns around and shoots him. Along with the camera angle where your character is standing, Irons walks around the man and pats his shoulder, where you can’t see his face. Not seeing his appearance anymore creates this feeling that the meeting is over and he is going to sort out the situation. So when he does turn around and shoot him, his face reveals the true layer under his character. And Gideon’s shocked “fuck me!” reaction coincides with the audience’s shocked reaction. That last scene, "I won't kill you, I'm not a monster". Oh goody, my eyes could not have rolled further into my head.
I think the scene you refer to ("I'm not a monster") is actually great, it shows how someone like Irons is convicted in his cause, and how deeply it shows he believes himself to be acting with good intentions, that he is doing the "right" thing by sparing Mitchell. Actually is a pretty well developed character, and the story as a whole, of course, has an allegorical exploration of the failings of partisanship and American bureaucracy to effectively govern itself, and all of this is contrasted with the, as you aptly put it, dark fascist undertones. So while Irons makes seemingly good arguments, his presumption that man "doesn’t want freedom" wants to "have rules" and a leader that "can keep chaos at bay," is a straw man argument. Any of his arguments really are straw man arguments. -- even if he is persuasive, he is logically flawed and amoral. Hes in control of everything including his own skeletons. You think he will relinquish power to a simple scrambler meeting by his own cooperation on an action he did? He's maintained powers , monitoring, and was actually the definition of a real man in charge who knew everything that was going on in his company every step of the way which is why ATLAS was so successful due to good management.
Perhaps that’s what got them to investigate? Seeing cameras down will get security to investigate.
Press F to pay respects to Kevin Spacey's performance
18:52 Okay, getting so close to Kevin Spacey is making me uncomfortable.
“I believed in you” lol
The graphics of the cutscenes are incredible
People just love dictators. No matter how many times they've failed through history, just love them.
Spacey for President.
I was today years old when I realized The General in this was Arthur Griffin from Big Time Rush 🤣
6:20 simple pep talk like these are powerful
Greatest actor ever KEVIN SPACEY HE MAGNIFICENT
I like how the player wanted to skip the pay respects part but the game forces you to as to take note of the missing left arm in relation to the continuation of the story later on.
Damn Spacey is good wish we had more of him
Honestly one of the best campaigns I’ve played outside of og MW and BO
Does anybody else agree with kevin spacey
I do 🙋🏻♂️
I only agree on Jonathan Irons, so...
Bruh did you walk away without paying respects first 💀
Damn cutscenes hold up after 8 years
Always sad when you play as the bad guy and kill the good guy at the end.
yeah, literally
Except thats not the case here, atleast if you surpassed the age of 16
Best cutscenes in terms of graphics
1. World War II
2. Advanced Warfare
3. Modern Warfare 2019
It would have been really neat to choose your side. I 100% would have stayed with Atlas.
Yeah, look. He’s not wrong.
I never play a cod game but for kevin space i would play it
Kevin Spacey played Putin very well
I want this game remastered for modern console but Kevin Spacey is in it so that's never going to happen.
its like movie if u watch full video
“I am not a monster!”
That is hilarious in hindsight
6:57 AYOOO GRIFFIN FROM BIG TIME RUSH 😱😱
He was not a monster he was a grieving father.
i remember got my first xbox 360 and play this game when i was kid, man do i love it! graphics really amuse me unlike other cod i played before this back then (bo2 and bo1 graphics are just fine but not magnificent as this)
Funny and amazing as usual keep up the good work👍
Say what you will about Irons, but he certainly is a hands-on CEO.
Can't argue with him
7:14 the actor playing the general here also played Colonel Davis in Call of Duty WW2.
Damn. Irons called pulling out of Iraq in the early 2020s-
If this game supposedly takes place around 2050-55
This was the first campaing i played as a child i still like the game
3:25 "what you're seeing is Advanced Warfare"
"You must answer to the CALL OF DUTY"
Irony is that if not for Irons shooting Cormack, he would've still be a good guy...
