- In one week we transformed this 2005 3rd Gen Cummins Ram 2500 from a grandpa rig, so a modern, capable truck. Well not fully, but this is phase one of our mission to accomplish that goal! In this video we install a Carli Suspension 3" Backcountry system with Fox 2.0 shocks, and all the supporting parts. We also installed our CJC Exclusive Method 315 wheels wrapped in 37" Toyo MT tires to finish off stage one of this new build!

Great video and explanations. I want this kit (or dominator short arm) on my 3gen, but shipping to Norway and taxes that include tax on the shipping cost as well, makes it a bit hard to justify.
Do I need to add spacers
Beautiful truck, i still love the 03-05 headlight trucks
Can’t wait to find my own grandpa rig and convert it to my dream camping rig!
This is the exact set up I want for my 03 3500! Excited to see something similar.
It's a FANTASTIC bang for the buck!
It's what I have on mine, best thing I've have ever had, hands down!
I love all the detail you’re giving in your videos recently. Keep it up it’s so informative.
I had a 03 6spd QCSB Atlantic Blue Ram! This video made me want it back
Wow what a difference great build
You sir absolutely have the best builds this truck was degrampafied 💯 % keep doing what your doing. CJC and Carli are the best in my opinion.
Great looking truck.
I wish I had the extra funds to do this to my 06'.
Love it! I really miss my 05' 3500 5.9!
Those old school wheels with the big 37 would look so killer.
Looks amazing
Always been partial to those headlights over the later years. No off roader, but I had a 2004 Laramie quad cab 2WD 1500 Sport in flame red as the first new vehicle I bought after college. Put a Hotchkis TVS kit on it and it was just a wonderful truck. One wheel bearing in 80,000 miles was the only repair it ever had.
Good looking truck!
That blue is gorgeous
Dream build right there
Very nice truck and video !!
My very first Cummins was the same year and color as this one, just a 3500. Makes me happy to see one again. Just be careful with the tranny, can’t handle a ton of power without serious modifications
Amazing.. 👏👏👏👏
Really considering bringing 2003 Ram 3500 duelly to your shop, currently running a ruff country 5" lift, and I'm really wanting a Carli setup, 37s would be nice!!!
If I knew you were wanting to put this kit on an 03 I would have drove mine to So Cal.
Carli is just so damn expensive. 10k and up is crazy for a damn lift. Wish they werent so damn expensive.
We have lots of budget friendly 03-12 Ram options if you check out our website. The starter kit is $830. www.cjcoffroad.com/collections/03-09-carli-systems
@CJCOffRoad oh, I thought I had to get all of that stuff to lift the truck. I need to learn a lot more about this truck. I'll watch more of yalls videos. Thank you.
Sometimes I am tempted to convert my 2006 Megacab to have the older style headlights. It would make it a little more unique but there are so many other parts I rather spend my money on first.
Do it !
I’m a Chevy fan boy but damn that truck looks good.
Perfect
Can you run stock 17” wheels with 37s with this?
Nice! Very similar to my 2002 1500 Quad Cab….. that was lifted off my driveway in 2006….. I wish I had beaten you to the punch! If it goes back on the market….. plz advise……. Very cool… Rick….. NM
what do you recommend to get a better ride and 4-inch lift on an old 87 chevy square body
The bad country is really an awesome kit For the price There is nothing better!!Believe me my 💯🐓💪 6" kit...
Extremely smooth especially in LA freeways and fire roads. Cant wait to upgrade . Dominator or unchained?🤤
For your truck we'd say Dominator! It gives a better on road ride than the unchained, but still packs TONS of off road capability!
Do you have kits to reverse level a 3rd gen?
Do you guys sell any of your 3rd gen 5.9 trucks?
Clean 🧼
👌
Love this truck so much is it for sale
This is why I'm glad not every first owner drives their cars into the ground. So future us has something to play with
Sell me that truck 😭😭😭 litteraly my dream truck I would love to daily. I’d do the carli pin too all options. Every single banks power part for this truck and just keep it forever
Was the steering video ever uploaded? I can't find it.
Random question, but how tall is the truck to the top of the cab with this setup? I want to know if I would be able to fit my 3rd gen in the garage if I went with this setup.
It's a hair over 7 feet with this setup and 37s!
Is that a crack at 8:05 on what looks to be the upper ball joint mount or an optical illusion? 3" of lift with 37's is the best real world setup for a full size truck.
Optical illusion! And it really does fit the truck well!
You have any pictures of a gen 2 on the 17” method 315 ?
Sadly none on hand!
Looking at a 2005 dodge 3500 single wheel would your set up work on it ? Was reading something about I have to fabricate my own slots ?
This would be a direct bolt on!
hi CJC! i have a 2013 but also with the Carli Backcountry. However, i continue to run through ball joints (moog heavy duty). I run AEV wheels and Falken 37". What ball joint did you put in this truck? I am getting read to trash the moogs and deciding to go with something else.
Moogs just don't hold up under these trucks! We used Carli ball joints on this one, but here's a video comparing our top 3 picks:
czcams.com/video/ly0jZiZ3Jvk/video.html
Copy that sir. Was afraid of that but like you said in the video on ball joints; even if a lifetime warranty I am doing constant maintenance.
The Carli isn’t available for the next three months from what I am learning so it looks like I am semi forced into the dynatrac. Which isn’t terrible as it sounded from your review still a great choice for my long term build. Thanks for all the help!!
Dynatrac is still fantastic. Really all three in that video are good choices, so feel free to let availability and price guide your decision!
Do you guys offer any suspension parts for an 2003 Ram 2500 quad cab Cummins in 2WD?
Sadly nothing for 2wd trucks! Nobody really makes quality replacement parts for those aside from Moog and a couple other parts store brands!
@@CJCOffRoad any other brand suggestions other than Moog?
What lower valance is on ur truck ..definitely digging the truck. Just snagged a 05 with 36,000 miles white.
That's just the factory plastic valance. Congratulations on the truck though, that's a score with such low mileage!
What wheels are you running ?
Here's a link: www.cjcoffroad.com/collections/cjc-exclusive-methods/products/cjc-exclusive-method-315?variant=31053507756130
When will the new Control Arms be available for purchase?
Should be within a month or so!
Is that 9 wide wheel?
This is an 8.5" wide wheel.
Is the payload affected?
This exact spring trades a 15% reduction in payload for better ride. If you want full payload we've got other options from Carli!
Yeah I’d say anytime with that progress rate til bags but that front active rate carli still doesn’t want you loading it
What's the biggest difference between back country and dominator? The dominator is twice as expensive.
The Backcountry uses a Fox 2.0 reservoir shock while the Dominator used a King 3.0. That's an extra inch of shock body diameter, which translates to more damping force, more fluid volume, and really more capability off road. The Backcountry will be slightly smoother on the street, but the Dominator is capable of hitting whoops at 60 miles an hour or jumping your truck. It all depends on what your end goal is! If you plan to just do normal truck usage and cruise down fire roads, the Backcountry is perfect.
@@CJCOffRoad Thank you very much. For some reason, CZcams did not notify me that you responded to my comment. I only see your response after I came back watching this video a second time. The difference is now I have a 5.9 RAM too 😄. Definitely going to get a set of carli suspension at some point of time.
THE BILLET ARMS!!!! THEYRE SO SEXY!!!!
I noticed the tires are load range D.
Correct! They have a 3,525 pound per tire max rating, which is actually higher than most E load options. The capacity in pounds per tire is what matters, not the letter!
Can I just have one of these trucks.
And now I know why I can't get any 2012 Ram 2500 Carli shocks.
Don't worry, 10-12 uses a different shock and tune than 03-09 so your shocks didn't end up on this truck. We have both 03-09 and 10-12 Carli backcountry shocks in stock too!
Nothing better than ripping the lame old man stuff off these trucks
I’ve noticed that most if not all of your builds with methods don’t run the center caps is there a reason for that other than they are just ugly?
A lot of people (us included) just prefer the no cap look.
@@CJCOffRoad no cap it is
When was the day y’all found out he had a twin…..
Similar cost of other lift kits…… uh sure. 10 grand of suspension and didn’t change to the t style steering.
As optioned this system is 5k so we’re not sure what setup you’re looking at! Like we mentioned we wanted to talk about steering in another video so this wasn’t 20 minutes long.
I did on mine and wow, what a difference
Maybe he guessing labor too?!@CJCOffRoad
@@chuckdaddy7964 no 😂 price it out everything he put on this truck. I’m not sure where he gets 5k. Just the leaf springs, billet control arms and sway bar are 5k alone
Upgrade the transmission your gonna thank me later
