I was a dancer and athlete. I am sidelined with rheumatoid arthritis and cannot afford extra therapy. Your channel has prime with realistic, common sense, workable exercise to mitigate pain and weakness my doctor refuses to acknowledge. Just because I am in my late 60s the doctors and therapists think I don’t need to be as active as I was- and it makes me so angry. We shouldn’t have to endure pain and lose independence because we can’t afford to see a physical therapist.

Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disorder. It's very different from osteoarthritis. You might want to look up things to help autoimmune disorders (if you haven't already).

I am in the same boat with you but have an extraordinary rheumatologist who is compassionate and listens and takes appropriate steps to mitigate my pain and suffering. It took years to dx my RA over 20+ years ago so I too suffered much joint damage. If you haven't already I strongly urge you to find a competent and understanding rheumy that partners with you to give you your best life possible. I am not anti-MDs but my rheumy is a DO and I truly believe that is the primary reason he is such a thorough and responsive rheumatologist, bc he understands how my entire bodily system is impacted by this systematic Autoimmune disease. I too am in my laye 60s and have suffered from this dread disease for 30+ years. I wish you the best and will be praying for you. I am so sorry for your continued suffering. Most individuals don't realize that there is no cure for RA, that the plethora of medications on the market, at best, delay the continual breakdown of the body. Remission is an extremely, extremely rare occurrence. I also recommend you join an online RA support group if you have the energy. (Another seldom discussed hallmark of RA in the unrelenting exhausion and fatigue that dogs sufferers.) These groups can be very helpful in dealing with the psychological toll of this disease. I just had a conversation with my rheumy and he agreed with me, that RA just takes, and takes and takes. Again, my empathy and my prayers 🙏🙏🙏

I am a 72yo pole dancer (and NOT the oldest one at my studio, either!), and I've been poling about 2 years. I'm terrible at it, but I don't care. I'm having fun!
One of the other dancers at my studio--i would say she's probably in her 30s--has rheumatoid arthritis as well as slight scoliosis. When she started pole dancing, she could barely move, she was so stiff and in pain. Five years later, she's one of the best dancers in the studio. While not completely pain-free, she is SO much better. I don't know what else she has done for her RA, but I know she credits pole dancing for most of her improvement.
I agree with you. Never stop moving. Moving lubricates all our joints and keeps us flexible. Maybe you should think about pole dancing? It's great fun, and the community is extremely supportive and diverse in all ways--body types, ages, gender, etc.

@@elizabethbaker663 you are correct that moving helps but being a 30 year old with RA and a 60 something with RA are two very different things. I don't know how long your friend has suffered from RA, perhaps from childhood (JRA) but that form of RA differs vastly from RA, that older individuals suffer from. Many with JRA, not all but many, outgrow this disease. Your recommendation to keep active is spot on but not something those of us with RA can maintain.

@@CynVeeI'm so sorry. I have osteoarthritis, not RA, and I understand it is a much different condition. I do have RA antibodies, probably because I have Hashimoto's, but it has never manifested as actual RA. And you are right--what you can do at 60 is a far cry from 30, even if you are pretty healthy and active.

I have extremely bad arthritis in my back, and my physical therapist who I recently started seeing found that all of my pain goes down my glutes medius, so she's been having me focus heavily on strengthening that muscle in my right hip!

    • @factitiously

I would really love for you guys to do a video on if learning to do the splits can fix a pelvic tilt. I recently saw someone on CZcams who learned to do the splits over the course of a couple of months. And she said that the unintended consequence was that it fixed her pelvic tilt. She showed pictures from before or after and it was quite profound.
But I wondered if there is any underlying physical mechanism that you are aware of that might cause this. Because I would like to fix my pelvic tilt but If there's an easier way than learning the splits, that would be really nice 😂
So if you were able to, I would love a video on different ways that you can fix a pelvic tilt, and if the splits is one of those ways. Thanks!
I've been following you for years. Love you guys so much 🎉

This subject is exactly what I needed to watch. My left (strong) & right (weak) hip to knee areas are out of balance. I'm always trying to find ways to strengthen them individually, I'll definitely give this a try. Along with this same issue, my strong side is more stable but less flexible w/ less range of motion, however, my weak side is very flexible, good range of motion, but I have a hard time building muscle.

Another good, slightly advanced variation from what's shown here, is to put your chair (or even harder without a chair for full ROM) in front of your suspension trainer and do pistol squats, which are one legged squats with the non-emphasized leg extended in front of you. This way you can assist any balance issues while holding both handles of the suspension trainer. My balance is very good, so I don't use the suspension trainer unless my knees are very sore from an arthritis flare-up, and instead will do maybe 3-4 sets of pistol squats, from a seated position, off the end of the bed or on a stability ball.

This exercise looks like exactly what I need for my lower back chronic pain. Will it also help with my weak leg muscles? I have quite a lot of deconditioning and my legs are really wobbly and weak after not moving around much for the last 3-4 years, I have other things going on; particularly with my rheumatoid arthritis. My legs are making me at risk for falls and I need to feel more stable. Any advice would be very much appreciated by anyone who may know too please 🙏🏻 ❤

Thanks. Plopping also puts seniors at risk, spinal fractures from low density bones in the vertebrae can form with the quick impact. Only mentioning it in case you care to create a video about this risk.
