- Actor and singer Will Swenson is a Tony nominee for his outstanding work in the revival of the musical HAIR back in 2009. He's someone I’ve known since the late 90s when we were working at Disney World in Orlando, both sharing the role of Gaston in Beauty and the Beast. We are both baritone leading man, who grew up in the church, and both had first marriages that didn’t last.
We have shared so much in common that one of my initial reasons for bringing him on the podcast was to figure out what I could’ve done differently, what are the one or two things I could’ve done that would’ve let me mirror his career path (and possibly successes). But instead, what I came away with was a greater understanding of shared experience, of commonalities we all have, both professional and personal, that go far deeper than who is better than who or who has a better life or career.
There’s a lot to digest here, and so I decided to split up our conversation into two parts. In this episode you’re basically getting an intimate conversation between old friends, celebrating the big moments and successes like his Broadway debut, the Mormon films he made, and of course his Tony nomination. But more importantly there’s a lot of listening, learning, and healing as we discuss the low points as well.

How fortunate was I to see Will Swenson in the Broadway production of a Beautiful Noise back in late April. I was so impressed with his performance that I purchased front row seats for myself, and two friends, and flew up from Florida to see the show again. Unfortunately, he was not performing the night we had tickets. The understudy was
quite good, but I was still disappointed. I think the chemistry on stage with his fellow actors is part of what
makes Will Swenson so very special. This interview is also such a delight to watch. How lucky are we to have such an actor in our generation! Thank you, Mr. Swenson again and I look forward to seeing this fabulous production for a third time with you in it. ❤
I got to see opening night of Beautiful Noise with Will as well. He was so spot on vocally and has such a great presence onstage. You can tell he enjoys what he's doing but clearly works hard each and every show. He told me how grateful but tired he was at the opening night party. Between tech rehearsals and media events, opening a show is a heavy load for any lead actor and yet Will maintains his constant professionalism throughout. What a class act. I love what he said about his career progression and how it related to his commitment to truth and authenticity. As an exmo myself, I've followed Will's career with interest and admiration. As a theatre lover, one of my highlights was being pulled from the audience during Priscilla Queen of the Desert to dance onstage around the campfire, so I can say I've danced on Broadway with Will! LOL
