Sean Penn says a little and says a lot at the same time.. I just keep getting more and more impressed with him over time.
You mean the guy who was in love with Hugo Chavez
@@Grande79 he has evolved as we all do.
@@rievans57 Hes a jerk of
the last 2 minutes shows Penn's brilliance and understanding of middle eastern/ western dynamics.
BANG!!! Now there is some serious wisdom from Sean Penn! Every word he said seems far more informed then any politician in Washington!
I sure like Sean Penn.... a thoughtful and aware person of truth and reality.
Surprisingly
Lol reality? Right.
Ummm..did you listen to what he said or did you just get convinced by his messy hair and fake "I'm intelligent" squint?
This aged like milk
Sean Penn kinda blew me away in this. not gonna lie.
Well said Sean Penn.
I wish Sean Penn would do more interviews. I like the way he thinks.
It's a good thing, no matter the standpoint, to see someone speak freely. Bonus points for facts
Humans can learn, build, teach anything....but somehow cannot find a way to coexist peacefully on this planet. Wish it werent so hard to do.
Mostly we do. Most people in the world are just everyday people, working, taking care of children and old folk. But, that doesn't make the news. HEADLINE: 6.5 BILLION PEOPLE LIVED IN PEACE TODAY FILM AT 11
lol your pic ironically fits with your comment.
DB800187 say's the man pointing a gun at us.
lol
@4:37 "why is anyone still listening to Lindsey Graham".
She called it early
Yes...Sean Penn! Thise forty seven senators who signed that letter put our children at risk!
i am always grateful you upload this - we don't have this here in Asia.....THX a lot
Love that sensible, informed Sean Penn. Thanks Bill, for bringin' him to us.
I love Sean Penn so much!He is great!
Just became a fan of Sean Penn.
I would vote for Sean Penn!
Shawn penn for president!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No so fast jungle boy . He was in bed with el chapo
Love Bill Maher and Sean Penn!
fuck Wilyem Maher
Sean is not a "Paper Tiger".....he is a brilliant, patient, wise. Sean Penn is a self-evident Man....and Nothing is for Sale.
I didn't go into this expecting Penn to be the smartest panelist up there. He crushed it.
I totally agree with Bill on his perception of Iran. The US govt has demonized it beyond reason.
We loved them back in the 70's.
As a Iranian, when I listen to American I feel sad for them!!!
I.. ahh I... ahh. Actors, can't live with them, can't... live with them. 🤣🤣👍👍
I knew "Spiccoli" had come a long way and had grown into a very adroit and intelligent person since his debut in "Fast Times At Ridgemont High". But this performance on Bill Maher's program is the kind that you wish our leadership would display on the job. He displayed a very insightful and reasonable understanding of the forces at work inside the nation of Iran that are, quite frankly, mind blowing. Why the hell do none of those Senators (actually, this is a question I have of most government officials) sending that ridiculous letter not have a similar insight? I wonder how Mr. Penn was able to travel there and interact with enough people from all levels of Iranian society to glean that observation, but my previous question is SO IMPORTANT in regards to ours and I think the world's future, that I'm more interested in that answer. Awesome, Spiccoli! Totally Awesome! I'm now waiting for Judge Reinhold to make an appearance on this show and deliver some bombshell discovery he made about who really used those chemical weapons on civilians in Syria!
Great finish with Sean Penn!
Brilliant people on the panel and a brilliant discussion!
Is it just me or does Sean Penn constantly look like he is constipated????
+Sean Patrick rofl
He is one of the most intense people I have seen on TV.
He looks like hes trying to hold in a fart at all times
ha h ah ah ah a
+Sean Patrick To me it looks like he's desperately trying not to blow up at stupid people all the time. Just trying not to scream at them. He looks frustrated with the stupidity of humanity.
"to treat them the way we treat them just seems so wrong and terribly stupid." wow bill maher, what a brave stance...................................................................
got to love Sean Penn.
The first part of this clip is what I asked myself the other day and that is 'has anything ever been done like this before?' As far as the letter is concerned. And no it hasn't. It just shows you how childish and utterly ridiculous the GOP has become. What I got out of that letter was that the current President is bad and the next President will be Republican so don't listen to what our current President says because we will nix it and do things our way.
Zsa Zsa Gabor looks pretty good in 2015
Sean Penn continues to surprise with his clarity and intelligence!
Spicoli, has come a long way. 😉❤️. They grow up so fast.
I left a series of videos running for my cat. Somehow, it ended up on this. I now feel deeply sorry for her.
Sean Penn is so damn extreme it's frightening....everything is so dramatic with him
Lindsey Graham is the Sean Penn of congress.
Yes Sean Penn! Have him on way more!!
Sean looks hammered.
Sean Penn, the defender of Venezuela. How is it going down there?
I feel as though when Iran is brought up, no one recognizes its fairly recent history as a very modern and Western country. As I understand it, and from the people I know who escaped (part of my girlfriend's family escaped), it was only in the past few decades, with the radical islamic revolution, that it more or less reverted into what it is today.
Nice profile pic bro 😎👍
+Insanicide13 Of course! How else are people going to make snap judgements and complete guesses as to where I stand on any one issue politically?
My dream is that, one day, we will be able to enter our coordinates on a political plane into a computer. This computer will analyze the two contenders, and then call one of them an idiot, extend an arm to flick their genitalia, brand "MORON" on their forehead, and then a comically large boot will pop out behind them and kick them in the ass, propelling them into a pile of other political dunces, which will regularly be incinerated. The winner will progress to the next round, until we're left with only the superior ideology. This beacon of rightness will then rule over the world as he or she sees fit, with no plebeians left in the world to dissent against them.
I feel this will really expedite the political internet debate experience. I think it's gonna be a real game changer.
+Insanicide13 But really, I appreciated this. Made me laugh.
I absolutely despise Ariana Huffington.
It’s crazy watching this in 2020!
Calling the Senate a co-equal branch of government when it comes to negotiating treaties would be like allowing the President to spend money without congressional approval. The President is not co-equal with congress in some areas, and the congress/senate is not co-equal with the President in others.
Terrible comparison. Obama's spent money without congressional approval to pass legislation through his use of Executive Order several times, which of course, costs money to implement.
acouniha
Actually, not true. The President cannot give an order for any agency to spend more than congress has budgeted for it. He can reallocate some discretionary funds within an agency to prioritize some things over others, but only if congress has not specifically designated the use for the money.
And as for the Executive Orders myth that the right is pushing, you have to go back over 100 years, to President Grover Cleveland to find any President who has used them LESS than Obama. GW Bush was actually close, but still signed more per year than Obama, and Herbert Hoover signed nearly 8 times as many EOs per year than Obama has. Ronald Reagan averaged 50% more Executive Orders per year than Obama.
+acouniha Obama has put in good service for America over 8 year, steadying the place up after the wholesale financial and military debacle of Bush/Cheney. I wish he had more of the mongrel in him though, and he had gone after them, scoured the statutes to find charges to lay against the 47 traitors. Even if he couldn't get them hung he could have smeared their Republican faces in a big bucket of shit. Modern Republicans have to be among the most loathsome people on the face of the earth
+acouniha Fuck off Koch troll, Bush was the most prolific abuser of executive order in recent time
tetapunui
Actually, next to Obama, GW Bush used executive orders less than anyone in recent times. The use of such orders has been steadily in decline since Hoover and Roosevelt who both issued over 200 per year on average, as compared to 36.4 per year for Bush and (so far) 33.4/yr for Obama.
This was a great panel.
Listen the root of so much opposition, disenfranchisement and polarization is the extremes of poverty and wealth.
Wow! Sean Penn .. Honourable eloquent and succinct . Who knew ? Im on board
Preach, Sean!
I really like actors with political opinions.
4/21/17...Interesting to review some of these now, historical conversations. :) Do we learn anything from the past ?
BTW...YAY SEAN PENN !!
Spicoli grew up. Mr Hand would be proud
I'm far more worried about the GOP than ISIS.
Love Sharyl Attkisson, straight schools panel.
no more oscars to Sean Penn
The way to beat evil is not by force but by living and behaving in a better way.
Like we did with Soviet.
We always had the moral highground during the coldwar.
This changed things socially in Soviet and future politicians (Yeltsin) said enough is enough and dismantled the communist system.
It is this social element, the iranian youth, we need to think about.
Show them a better way and in 30years when one of them becomes a political leader things change.
Or we can try the old route and embargo them like Cuba for some 60years and things will never change.
+syntaxed2 DUHmerica has the moral high ground? THAT'S funny.
The way they treat Iran is not unlike Cuba. Right or wrong, they have set their feet in stone.
Sean reminds me of the quiet kid in the back of the class who observes and listens to the conversation and when he says something just blows everyone’s minds
These Republicans just continue to top their own inanity day by day. They're an absolute embarrassment.
Sean Penn is a good man.
While congress is an equal power to our government. The Senate is only half of the house of Congress. Then not even half of the Senate sent this signed letter. So we are talking less than 25% of Congress doing this. I could almost understand if the republicans in the House did this as well but it wasn't done. Just a poor stupid move that is backfiring on them.
Excellent point.
Sean is intelligently down to earth
Aloha, Mr. Hand.
As an Iranian with access to friends and family inside the country, I can tell you that the majority of the country, and overwhelming majority of youth despise this regime. When you see pro government rallies in Iran, it is mostly comprised of paid off poor people from the inner cities, villagers who are bused in from far away and the remaining individuals who in some way or form are earning their living through close association with the regime. The young people 35 and under, do not remember the revolution that their parent's generation totally bombed on, but rather have been brought up in the horrible environment left behind from it. Problem is, Iranian youth are not machine gun strapped vigilantes on the back of pick-up trucks ready to fight. They are very well informed, non violent progressive thinkers who want separation of church from state. Women outnumber men 2 to 1 at Tehran University. The government is scared shitless of Iranian women, hence the enforcement of Islamic law, dress code etc..Unfortunately, the government has the weapons and they rule with a strong arm. For now the youth will have to wait for the old clerics to die off, and that will take time.
They are not a co-equal branch of government when it comes to foreign affairs
Hey bud! Let's party!
At least he cares and I truly believe he cares about people all people
I have never seen a country so divided in my life. Both parties are to blame for the shape this country is in. Both political parties need to quit blaming each other and start working together to fix the problem, which also leads to the Democrats saying the Republicans aren't listening to them, and the Republicans saying the Democrats aren't listening to them!
Can we get Sean Penn on more? I know he doesn't like it in front of people because early fame fkd em up a bit, but he will get used to it. He knows his facts!
The woman did have a point, if Obama has the right to change an entire aspect of immigration law without congress's consent, congress should be allowed to send a letter.
Omigod Sean, I am so impressed with your political astuteness ... Why don't guys like him ever get anywhere in American politics??
+Umar Latif So political acumen necessitates public office? He's the one on TV in front of millions of viewers whereas you're here on CZcams. Someone's astute and it ain't you.
I've been to Iraq you know!!!
Sean Penn was on Friends!!!
Iran is the most civilized and progressive country in the middle east. Iran in the context of this program only refers to the Iranian government, which is very distinct from the Iranian people, most of whom detest their brutal and repressive government. Even B Netanyanhu clearly distinguished between the two in his speech. They'd welcome action to help them kick out the mullahs....but sanctions only hurt them...not the rich mullahs. Go and see Iran once to know what it is about. Most Americans don't even know the difference between Iran and Iraq!
The epicenter of terrorism is Pakistan...and when China gift wrapped nuclear weapons to Pakistan, America's conscience was deep asleep. This hyperbole around Iran is primarily to please Saudi Arabia (one of US' largest arms customers) and to keep the artificial threat of Iran alive. Why else would the Saudi's spend billions of dollars on American weapons? Who'd attack them? Who'd attack the house of terror?!
Tell me that after you watch argo.
And here I was, thinking Sean Penn is the capital of Cambodia.
"co-equal" branch of government, wtf?
I wish the signers of the ill thought letter were as well informed as Sean Penn!
47 Ronins??
Hahaha
I really hope they don't get away with this.
Well they failed on their prediction
Not only is it a mutiny it is a disgrace. What is wrong with these people? This is the opposition? They must be really desperate. I don't care who runs as a Democrat for the presidency, but I hope they win.
2:00 Sharyl is the only unbiased correct one on this.
All 47 should be brought up for Treason and should be serving time
First off I have not heard anything from either side of OUR GOVERNMENT about going too war with Iran. Now I have been hearing more about the treaty /deal with Iran as being a bad deal .
Pay attention to the republican tactic of talking over you, louder, to make sure your point never gets heard.
Did Iran respond to the letter from 47 US Senators? I would like to see that response.
Wouldn't you?
+Dale Reynolds - Yep, here it is apparantly. www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/low_concept/2015/03/an_open_letter_to_47_republican_senators_from_iran_s_hard_liners_we_have.html
+Dale Reynolds Iran has no reason to reply to a bunch of neocon warmongering terrorist DUHmerican "Senators". Especially those DUHmerican so-called "Senators" who represent Tel Aviv.
Bill just give them a "duh"..
And OF COURSE the foreigner is the smartest one on the panel (minus Penn).
Yup, everything according to Louie Gohmert and Dick rectalfeeding Cheney.
Rand Paul / KKK 2017
You just went full Faux News. Never go full Faux News.
***** Way to flash the race card. The last ditch effort of a pathetic lib. that has nothing of value to say.
nutt1674
Funny coming from a reversed racist Gohmert like you!
Rand Paul Gohmert / Vidkun Quisling 2017
***** See what I mean. Just name calling, nothing of substance. Oh well...I guess that's to be expected from a DNC parrot.
Why does everyone forget that Iran took over British oil in Iran in 1951, Iran broke all contracts and took over the company; Britain's largest enterprise at the time.
I knew I couldn't take it seriously when she said the legislative and executive branches were not co-equal branches of government. What an idiotic statement.
+Keith Pendleton And I love how these folks actually defended folks like Bowe Bergdahl and then have the balls to call republicans traitors for writing a god damned letter.
OH NO - It's Sean Penn!
a mistake! That is an understatement!
Sean Penn did kickass in Milk!
Iran has a highly educated population. Just look at the list of top students and professors in American universities!
Sean Penn gets better with age.He is awesome
"Why is anyone listening to Lindsay Graham?" I don't think we should be ignoring US Senators
1:57
OR EVER!
These people should not even speak in public. They should keep their comments to themselves because they're just causing more trouble. They're using their position to be stupid
The first guy got it right. Went right over Maher's head.
Like the President isn't a criminal also.
A nod to Sean for mentioning that there is a difference between the executive branch and the house on foreign relations. Money interests direct the house, be it demos or reps. I expect the executive position to push for diplomacy over military actions.
If the Republican party ever decides to "right size" the government by shrinking the military, I'll convert right now!
I also point out I never said a derogatory remark against any President, whether its Barack Obama, or George Bush. Either way I have served both, and both have extremely hard decisions to make. They both have had decisions to make, that whether I agree or disagree, I do not see any of you volunteering to be under political scrutiny. At the end of the day, respect to those who have served whether politically or in the military. They both deserve the respect that they have to make decisions that most people are not willing to make. Both sacrifice, I could stand on the side lines and preach, but I took a stand and chose to serve. I could leave the military at anytime, but I believe in what I do and am proud of the time I have served for the past decade. At the end whether I agree with what my commander and chief chooses to send me to a country to fight, I choose to follow the oath I swore to. At the end of the day I choose to respect those who have served, whether political or in the military, and not take away from the sacrifices they make.
As a species at the moment we are anything but moral and balanced , and this is a species wide problem not one of specific religions or populations or demographics . If we're going to be better , we have to ALL be working towards it together , at the same time .
