Good old Ted told the guards to just open the back door and let them fly. Over 100,000 votes for Gore. Bush gave good old Ted a job. My guess is that Reihan Salam has not been to Cuba. If he had he would have seen that Cubans are more educated than most Americans - even taxi drivers have at least one University degree - and have better healthcare. Yes, there is poverty and hardship, but all of that has been fed by the American trade embargo. Despite this, the people are still happier than those in the US. Grow up America, if you want to see a more open Cuba, go there and embrace it, and then work on it from the inside. And if you fear it staying a communist State, be assured that the Chinese are already there and investing billions in economic projects.

+Eric Bacon Another ironic comment. The US rounds up people who they think are enemies of the US and executes, tortures and imprisons them. Cuba has one of the best humanitarian aid projects in the world. Brought down apartheid South Africa, people in Cuba have free healthcare and education, an incredible scientific community, has a higher literacy rate than the US, better infant mortality, house ownership, etc.
Has Cuba problems? Of course, it does, some quite terrible. But the US has no right to complain about Cuba. The US has invaded, funded dissidents, sought to start revolutions, sought to assassinate the Cuban leaders hundreds of times, and so on. Cuban dissidents, in Cuba, are in US mainstream media every single day. Why haven't they been killed?

As a Cuban born and raised and now a US citizen, I must say that Reihan Salam does not know anything about the history of Cuba. The fact that he thinks that the US now has economic leverage is plain stupid. 1991 when Cuba lost all relations with the dissolved Soviet Union, the country suffered the greatest economic recession, with the embargo at its peak preventing any trade with anyone Cuba went through the process known as "Special Period". Everything was scarce, yet no one starved to death, no one lost healthcare and education, the revolution process did not fall. I know it because I lived it. It is just crazy to see this guy now saying that US has an economic leverage today to defeat the Cuban Revolution, give me a f..... break Sir.

+Vanneker Note that no one was laughing like it was a joke.
I doubt he'd go out of his way to hang a banner of Ted Cruz, make a hat saying "better Ted than dead", and go on a 5 minute rant saying one thing, just so he can say the exact opposite thing (with no comedic set up by the way - another sign it was not a joke), which comes off just confusing. If you were right, that would mean that he went back on everything he just said while wearing a hat that says the opposite. Common now, you have to be smarter than that.
We all know he doesn't support Ted. Thanks for stating the obvious. The fact that you feel you need to say that and add a "lol" tells me you are likely not thinking very deep on this.
Part of my point was that Bill does this kind of stuff all the time, which, if you were someone who doesn't miss an episode, like myself, you would have to admit is true. You may believe it was a calculated move, but fans of Real Time that watch every week have come to expect Bill to fuck up from time to time in the way he says things. It has nothing to do with intent, it's a pattern of mistakes, often with unfortunate timing.
Then again, this is a youtube comments section and I'm wondering why I'm explaining this to someone who is going to believe whatever they want. Sound reasoning usually has no place in youtube comment section conversations, so I'll leave my comments at that.

Here are a few facts about Cuba and why the USA want in, it’s NOT for the Cuban people, it’s about MONEY.
    • Castro did not made Cuba a Communist Country, President Dwight D. Eisenhower did by hid policy of starving the Cuban people to submission to the USA and after about two years Russia came to Cuba’s aid and Castro joined the communist party.
    • Cuba has the second largest Tourist arrival/stayover (5.5 million) in the Caribbean, average stay 5-14 days.
    • Cuba has more Hotels and Hotel Rooms (63,000) than any 4 country combined in the Caribbean except for Dominican Republic, but none are Americans and that is why they now want to go there.
    • Cuba host Embassies from 95% of the Countries in the world.
    • Every Country in the world trade and do business with Cuba except the USA.
    • Every major Airline fly’s into Cuba except the USA.

    • Cuba has the largest Container Port in the Caribbean and Americas and 75% of all goods traveling through the Panama Canal bound for the USA will have to be off loaded in Cuba.
    • The US Dollar was costing Cuba 25 to 35% on exchange when the purchase goods and service from Europe, Asia and China, but they only charge a 10% exchange to USA and other Tourist.
    • The Lease between Cuba and the USA on Guantánamo Bay was signed in 1903 for about $2,000 per year and now $4,085 per year, Since 1959 after the Cuban Revolution the Cuban government has cashed only one of the rent checks from the U.S. the lease for Guantanamo stipulated that it would not expire until both countries agree to its termination.
    • Cuba has some of the best Doctors in the world who travel throughout the Caribbean South America and Africa giving free medical treatment to the poor.

To be fair, I will watch this segment again.
Still, Bill does seem to be hung up on the Islamic religion and its "immense, inherent evil-causing dogma”.
The Christians are much smarter about/with their "evil acts". Just because they don't kill large groups of people in a single act, does NOT mean their pathology is any less deadly, harmful or pervasive.
It can be compared to mass gun murders versus daily, single murders by gun. The mass murders garner all the attention, horror and headlines. But they account for only a small percentage of "gun murders". The daily, single murders are FAR more costly in just about EVERY category, but they get little to NO national media coverage.

+Fiasco Do you also think and talk as fast? He doesn't have an Indian accent, but I think I may have figured out why Americans feel that the subcontinent, Indian accent is so funny. Many of these immigrants tend to retain a very thick accent in spite of their characteristic mastery of English which runs counter to what we observe in immigrants from other societies and with different languages who eventually lose their accents. Schwarzenegger may be an exception, but pretty sure he's been coached to retain his accent even as he has mastered English, and consistent with this theory, most of us think his accent is funny. Ironically, the many Americans who "don't talk as good American" as these immigrants, are the real butts of the joke.

    • @CANOOB18
      @CANOOB18 Před 8 lety +2

+WesleyLocust Salam was born here so of course he wouldn't have an accent or at least one that is noticeable. Accents are hard to get rid of since you learn the best when you are very young and languages are learned at young age so transitioning to a new language and dialect at an older age is difficult that is why many immigrants have thick accents whether it be people from Indian subcontinent or Europeans (including the British) and frankly everyone. The children of those immigrants usually lose the accent. Even those immigrants who study hard to are in a formal American environment, they tend to lose their accent eventually. The Indian subcontinent accent is funny because well, it's different, they usually learned British-English and combine that with American it's a hot mess I guess.
As far as I know, I don;t think I have a deep accent.

**Regarding Voter ID:** And unfortunately, what _none_ of the panelists failed to cover is the fact that it's not just the law itself that's bad, it's what the state can do _following_ the law. Take Alabama. About a year after passing a Voter ID law, they started shutting down multiple DMV offices across the state, claiming they needed to cut costs. Well, guess which counties had their DMV offices shut down? *The counties with the most per capita African-Americans in the state.* ...Only by the purest of coincidences, of course; they're certainly not trying to make it so that you effectively _need_ a driver's license in order to _get_ a driver's license! Remember, Chief Justice John Roberts said the South no longer has problems with racism, so it must be true!
