REVOLUTIONARY - How to play Empire Total War's Online Campaign in 2023

- It continues to astonish me what modders are capable of, and this time is no different. Thanks to the work of Cece from the mod Empire 2 who pioneered the feature, modder Ludde has now finally been able to bring Empire Total War online campaigns to the vanilla game and possibly any overhaul you desire, but already now the major ones are here and ready to go, such as Darthmod, Pirates Uber Alles, Imperial Destroyer, Empire 2, and indeed even the vanilla game itself, and the mod does so quite ingeniously.
If you can believe it, Empire Total War already had an online beta years ago, but which actually never made it out of beta status. This means that people who never signed up, never got access to it, since it was never fully released. In other words, the majority of Empire Total War players, actually never got the opportunity to play a single online campaign with a friend. Well, those dark days are over! I've had a blast playing various online campaigns with a friend which I showcase in this video, and I even let you know exactly which steps to take to be able to do it yourself!

Total War Modders are now doing the job that CA is currently floundering in.
the best total war game i ever played was Ultimate General: Civil War which was made by (ex)-Total War modders

@@AndysTake Yes. We have a local network. 100%. This is how we played the old games. And they decided that there would be no lag on the Internet. We decided to play on a local network. I am for England, He is for France. I captured Amsterdam and my friend flew out to play..
@@TeyandeeProduction you’re free to go on the discord and ask - you’re actually supposed to use wifi to simulate a local network, not just use the local network
The feats that a good modding community can achieve are incredible.
Imagine if they made it to Medieval 2 and it was possible to play multiplayer DAC campaigns
What I wouldn't give for a multi-player dac campaign
Same man, would literally do unspeakable things for a Medieval 2 Remaster with multiplayer campaign and increased modding capabilities
A friend and I are doing a DAC Hotseat campaign (emailing the save back and forth) but there are definitely limitations (like never being able to fight a defensive battle). It's fun but I'd love to do a real multiplayer campaign in it. :)
@@dashsocur you can fight defensive battles actually, you just have to put it in the game code. But you can’t defend against the other player of course

I loved seeing the difference of having to fight a player compared to your previous Ottoman campaign against the AI. Just made it seem more alive to me.

You know, it's a truly strange feeling that we can, and are, having more fun with a total war game from 2009 than literally any of the recent titles. ETW has, and problaby always will be my absolute favourite Total War game. I really hope CA decides to wake up one day and either remaster this one, or make an ETW 2. They are literally sitting on a gold mine if they do it right!
Empire is about to get a Renaissance
I know i trigger most when i say that Empire is my third favorite total war after og rome and attila. The sense of scale was just fantastic. If only any of my friends actually liked empire id love to play this mod. But sadly, none of them do. Most of them even rate empire below rome 2 , kek.

If CA are gonna make a game befor they update their engine, I hope they go for Empire 2. Warscape dos well with ranged combat, but melee always felt like a bunch of balloons in a moshpit.

Oh man, your comment about the reinforcement system reminded me of a really annoying battle back when I was doing an American Monarchy AAR on the TWC forums. For some reason, the game decided my reinforcement spawn was behind a mountain in the corner of the map. This meant that a unit would spawn, and then take about 5-10 minutes (real time) to slowly walk around the edge of the map until it got to a passable area where it could actually enter the map. Only then would the next unit spawn back in the corner and begin it's own painful trek. It added some nice drama to the story but man was it frustrating to play...
Unfortunately the lack of battle AI ruins a significant aspect of the campaign.

Great video mate. I only ever want to play online with my brothers. Do you think they could ever mod more than 2 players at a time?
Do you have to autoresolve AI vs. Human battles like in Napoleon, or can you actually spectate while the human player fights the AI?

What if the person you want to play with is on the same Wifi network as you? Doesn't that count as a local network? does that mean that we can both skip the installation of the VPN?
I love empire and napoleon their bugs and missing features make it hard to recommend but the bones of something amazing is there.

The issue is that this MP campaign comes with a mod that totally re-imagine Empire TW. Some people like me may just want to be able to play with their friend without any deep changes to the game, is there any option to achieve this?
Yes, like I stated, you can play Empire's online campaign mod without any other mod, or with any mod you wish :) so vanilla is possible, just follow the simple instructions on the Discord I linked! :)
He says in the video that there's versions for Vanilla and the most prominent overhaul mods.

What PÜA launcher settings were you guys playing on?
my friend and mine always have a desnyc at pirates uber alles mod when we are attacked by the AI after our turn because one of us always does not see the battle option and goes through the nations until it is his turn although der other one is waiting for an answer in the battle menu.
Does anyone know a Solution for that?

You don’t need to download the vpn or anything, once u download and install the empire 2 mod the coop campaign is automatically working and all good.

Are you also able to play in an alliance? This might sound like an obvious question, but if i recall correctly in Napoleon you were only able to play “head to head”?

Can you play as coop? Not against each other? I thought in Napoleon total war the other player was forced to take over for the AI in all battles?

So no AI for the battlefields then does that mean its auto resolve only against AI nations? Or does the other player get to play as the AI? I'm a little confused on this.
If it's like Napoleon TW mp I think it means thats other player always has to play as the AI. Not sure if autoresolve is available. personally it's a deal breaker for me
@@demrasnawla I can't remember how it worked when I played the multiplayer beta years ago. You'd have to have someone who's really into Empire to play every single battle. It could be really fun that way but also be nice to also have an auto resolve option or let the other players spectate and maybe be able to gift them units. Guess we've gotten spoiled to the newer games. Still a cool mod but unfortunately limited with how you can play out the battles.

I always hated Multiplayer battles because people throw everything they have at the enemy for the win. In a campaign, you want to win, but not at the expense of losing the integrity of your army. Having multiplayer campaigns makes this much more realistic in that sense.

I don't play Empire much but, I have to tip my hat to what these modders have achieved. Enabling multi-Player via a VPN, that truly is a stroke of genius.

@@AndysTake For real dude this is absolutely amazing news. I knew it was on the horizon but I figured it was absolutely ages away.
Between this and Empire 2 it feels like the game is now finally going to get the love and respect that I have always felt like it deserves.

As Heir Of Carthage would say "Ca Please......" Seriously, THIS IS EMBARASSING ON CAs PART! Im guessing the Battles work similar to Napoleons mutiplayer campaigns where you MUST fight every single battle? (which can be quite tedius.)
If modders can do this, they can do anything.
we need help - it claims incompatible versions while we try to join. We have the same version tho :(
Then one of you does have mods activated, just play the vanilla to be sure you both have the same version. If wished for, you can both then attach the mods you like to use
Maybe it's time for these modders to make a competitor series to total war. Do the things right that they do not.
