Video Editing by ME!
My reactions are my own personal reactions, which I am entitled to have. I am not communicating a diagnosis of any person in this video as no one in this video is my client and I am not assessing them. - Zábava
This is actually the BBC live version of the song, which goes to show just how incredible and angelic her voice is!
I much prefer the original version of this song because the instrumental hits different and gives it more of a jazz feel and she has an effect on her voice on the bridge that I love so I hope you listen to that version in your spare time at least.
Agreed! The bridge is so magical and gets me emotional every time!
There's a theory going around that it's a nod to Bowie, as his brother was called Terrence who had paranoid schizophrenia and unfortunately committed suicide. It's very likely as she references "Space Oddity" in the bridge. To add to this, TLY's title may be a response to the lyric in Space Oddity "Tell my wife, I love her very much...she knows." Hence "Terrence Loves You." It really is a beautiful theory!
Great reaction as usual!
The album version is on Honeymoon.
I've never heard this version before. This sounds like it might be a demo or live version.
I did really like this, but I do suggest you listen to the album version.
Ahhhh I’m kicking myself. I guess it’s what happens when you rely on CZcams lyric videos. Thank you for letting me know and I’ll figure out a way to reaction to album version
@mendwithmere No worries! I'm not trying to push you into another reaction video for it, I promise.
I am always impressed with your ability to interpret her music.
@@mendwithmere This is the live version she did for BBC Live Lounge in 2015! Maybe you can do a double reaction to the album version and another track from Honeymoon in one video
@@mendwithmereplease react to swan song lana del rey❤
david bowies brother, Terry, took his own life after a long battle w mental illness , i feel like lana references him to elude to her uncle who died of similar circumstances. Terry was v important to Bowie - just in the way Lana’s uncle David was detrimental to her artistry, teaching her guitar n taking her in as a teen when her parents wouldn’t.
I think Lana always has many meanings to her lyrics so everything you said could be ”right”, like one sentence can refer to multiple things
I missed your videos, Mere!!! 🥺 Another interesting fact about this music when we relate it to Bowie is that Terence Burns, Bowie's brother, was the one who introduced jazz to the singer. He was admitted to a clinic in 1969 after being diagnosed with schizophrenia and committed suicide in 1985. In the same year (1969) Bowie released "Space Odity" which Lana references, including in an excerpt from Space Odity, Major Tom asks them to say his wife that he loves her, which could be a reference to the song's title as well. "Terrence loves you"
but maybe: czcams.com/video/KQRaj1vcnrs/video.htmlsi=Xy6Xx03khGgFe41X [ fits more her frame of mind ]
OMG😭😭😭😭😭
I personally interpret this song as being about Barrie James O'Neill, her ex-boyfriend. She was working on this album after their break-up. The entire album Honeymoon is about her trying to cope with his loss as they dated for quite a while and were even reported to be engaged. He struggled with depression and was a heavy drug user, and I believe so was she at the time. He is also a musician/singer/songwriter and helped her with her album Ultraviolence. So this is what she might be referencing when she's saying "I still get trashed, darling, when I hear your tunes."
I actually disagree. Honeymoon is an album from nearly start to finish about Francesco, it’s the most obvious in "Salvatore".
From loving an italian man to the exotic aesthetic of the album. Maybe this single song could be about him but "Honeymoon" as an album isn’t.
I agree that she mentions Francesco a lot! Many of the songs reference him. But he is her “rebound” of the album. She confirms this in The Blackest Day when she admits to him that she’s still hung up on Barrie. The album is veryyy dark and is almost her delusional, trying to convince herself that she doesn’t care about Barrie anymore, but collapses into admittance at the end. And Terrance Loves You would only make sense with Barrie as the subject because it references his music and that she lost herself when she lost him. It wouldn’t make sense with Francesco as the time lines don’t match. She was with him while she worked on Honeymoon and when it was released.
@@janepar715 I do somewhat agree with this take. There is this duality in the album, but I still feel like most tracks are about Francesco aside from TLY and TBD.
Francesco and Lana definitely broke up a few months before the album’s release. It was just confirmed publicly after the album’s release (probably why she wasn’t comfortable releasing the Honeymoon music video too). There were rumors he cheated on her, which also align with TBD’s bridge. So honestly who knows.
If you listen to the part just after she says "ground control to major Tom...) the drums seem to be the same drums that are on Space Odity
this is a live version from BBC Radio 1, the lyrics are the same, but the instrumental is a little different.
this hit me super hard!! this is a version i haven't heard before, but it's even more haunting and beautiful. wonderful video as always Mere, I'll never get tired of watching your reactions :)
this was a live performance for bbc one i believe. it's on youtube along with honeymoon, high by the beach, and an interview in-between the songs!
her voice sounds craaaazy omgg
i’ve never heard this version of the song but i highly recommend the official album version!
Bowie’s song was referred to this one, yes. And I interpret the line as Lana who kept reaching for someone she lost, and theres never a chance for her to reach them again.
This sounds like a live version. Very good one ❤
I’m guessing it’s the live BBC radio one version!! I’m pretty sure there’s a honeymoon and a high by the beach live version from that radio performance! No video just audio I believe?
She sings like an Angel. Her heart’s like one too ❤ 1:53
13 beaches or Yosemite pls😭
Ohhh, this is a live version. How gorgeous. I love hearing Lana live, I feel like she really shows off her range like this. The version from Honeymoon is definitely worth listening to. Did you know that it's Lana's favorite song from Honeymoon too? My husband is bipolar & I totally get that "when you are crazy I'll let you be bad" sentiment. I never want him to change his behavior, even though others think of mental illness as "bad". I love him dearly & he's so amazing. Being bipolar is his super power, I swear.
Omg Aaliyah's death impacted me too! She was so amazing, RIP to her. Since Terry was David's brother, maybe this is also mirroring Lana's thoughts about suicide and she's thinking about her siblings as well? About how she influences her sister & brother & if she were to die how it would impact them and what they would remember about her & how they would honor her through music perhaps. When she says "I've still got jazz when I get those blues" she's saying if you get sad, listen to the music cause you'll always find me there.
When you can, please, please do react to more songs from Honeymoon. I know you will love "Art Deco" and I would love to hear your perspective on "Swan Song". Love always! 💟
This is a live version I believe she performed for the BBC before the debut of her honeymoon album
I was just about to answer your questions, then you Googled them yourself...🙂 Such a sad, beautiful, haunting song. My favorite from Honeymoon. Thanks for another great reaction, Mere. It never ceases to amaze me how well you're able to analyze these songs on the fly!💕
Aww thank you. It’s a talent I didn’t realize I had until this happened 😂 ♥️💗
omg u did this one finally 🥹 one of my favourites. I haven’t heard this version before but it’s stunning
I think she alludes to space oddity because of the title “Terence loves you”
Which is abt David Bowiel’s half brother Terrence who died the same year Lana was born
My prayers have been heard. 🙌
Can you make a video about "Velvet Crowbar"? I think it's about addictiona and you would like it...
Sending a big wawe of love ❤
Hi Mer, I really missed Lana's ractions. Thank you for another one. That one is actually a live recording. The album version is from Honeymoon and is also very beautiful, pure and raw. I also think your insights are on point.
lots of love
My QUEEN!! I’ve missed you and I’m so happy you reacted to this song 🥰🤍✨
*This is not the released version though* 😭💔 The released has such a deeper impact and the instrumentals/bridge are perfect.
one of my favoritesssss
Requested this a Bazillion times! here it is ❤❤
Easily my favourite of Lana.
My first love has been my worst love. Once it was over I realised I based my entire personality around this person and who they wanted me to be.
I became depressed and it took me a while to get back from the emotional and physical abuse.
This song has a weird place in my heart.
Love u Mere ❤
I’ve been waiting for this
Damn, I only realized this is the live version because her voice in the bridge is different, she's so good!
The fact that this is live 🔥
Thank u mereee❤ we love u so much
Always love the Lana reactions !💖
Looove Mere❤❤❤❤❤ put the radio on
Great reaction, thank you so much for that! I'm sure you'd love the 2 songs Lana did with her father Hollywood Bowl and Lost at Sea (i see a clear connection between this last one and Mariners Apartment complex that you already reacted to). They are stunning, and her dad plays the piano. Btw, you're looking great! ❤️
Another great video!!!
Please do is this happiness next ❤️🔥❤️🔥
This is actually much better than the recorded version! Her voice is angelic!
I’ve been waiting for a Lana reaction and this IS SUCH A GOOD SONG. I’ve always loved it, however I think you’re listening to s performance version as it sounds a bit different to the studio version I know but still SUPER BEAUTIFUL. you’re right about feeling attached to artists as well like for me it’s Lana as her music helps me in numerous ways and I really hope to see her live someday :) and Terry being bowies brother makes so much sense, I think it has links to Bowie but I also think it’s about one of her loved ones that she ,lost and maybe applied David’s stuff to him or something or he loved Bowie. We know she has lost loved ones too because of dark paradise etc. too. Anyways thanks for another great reaction and I’d love to see you react to bel air from her soon!! 💗
Great! Thank You very much. ❤
10:22 never thought of it this way btw great analogy
love this song
This is one of my absolve favorite of hers ❤
hey mere!! i started watching your videos a while ago and i LOVE your analysis.
i noticed you did some from lana's audio book so could you do "My Bedroom Is A Sacred Place Now - There Are Children At The Foot Of My Bed"?
The first time I saw the title for this song I immediately thought of another song by Alanis Morissette called "Unsent". It also mentions a Terrence in it. Actually, THAT would be a great song to react to. It's very unique, both lyrically and structurally. Maybe lyric video first, then actual video. Because it's hard to analyze the lyrics and follow along with the narrative of the video at the same time. In my humble opinion. Anyway, forgive my wordiness everyone! Have a lovely day! 😊
Omg i've waited so long for this!!! Thank you so much!!! But i think you chose a live version of this or a performance 😅😅 this is not the actual version that is on the album like it's not the album track, nonetheless i love that you reacted to this 💕💕
Never fails! 😭 I’m so glad I have such an understanding group of members. Thankful you can tell me and I will look into the album version! 🤍
@@mendwithmere You also never fail!! You have reacted to many iconic and top tier songs from Lana's discography especially this one! This is my favorite song of hers and im just so happy that you give clear insight on each reaction on your channel including this one! I look forward to more Lana reactions! Oh and tood luck to listening to the album version of the song it's even better IMO!! 💕
Also loved Aaliyah!!! Her selftitled album was on repeat when i was 13. Oh my God, I know the feeling. And Chester Bennington of Linkin Park was also one of the artists that left a mark on my adolescence and still their songs impact me today.
Yess, I absolutely love honeymoon, every every song on it is just amazing. I’d have so many songs to recommend you but, as a person, not as a fan, I recommend you to listen to I bet on loosing dogs by Mitski (if you’re feeling sad, otherwise go for Girls against god by Florence + The machine). Sending you lots of positive vibes and love Mere ❤❤
That's the last for my rewatching marathon. I hope you noticed me and again, you are amazing and I love every single one of your reactions.
I would love to see a react to Sportcruiser from Violet bent backwards over the grass.
You made me feel so loved. Seriously, so sweet and means so much. ❤❤❤❤

Hi Mere, I found you through your Ethel Cain reactions and I was curious if you could react to her song “Head in the Wall”, I think it has some lyrics that would really be good for you to cover
Honeymoon album is my favorite from Lana
I think she said this song was about David Bowie’s brother Terry
You should try with the original version . Still fantastic thanks
This song always hits a soft spot for me and I love that you did this song because it’s one of my favorites because my best friend who’s last name was Terrence passed away a year ago to an accidental overdose and Lana was one of the first things that we connected over and now I can’t here this song without thinking of her. 🤍 thank you so much for doing this and helping me remember her 🤍
