Intro Music by PODUS- WASTE NO TIME: www.youtube.com/watch?v=AXSyS...
Video Editing by ME! - Zábava
honestly one of her best songs lyrically, she was so honest and this song shows that she's not afraid to be a true and bold poet with her carefully crafted word choices, it was just the perfect song to lead us through the light at the end of the tunnel that we travel inside while listening to this album
so so true! thank you for sharing
Absolutely adore this song. I think the 3 butterflies also bring us back to Kintsugi. She talks about having lost 3 people, Chucky was there for 3 out of 3. Perhaps she’s referring to the 3 people she has lost and these 3 butterflies signify they’re presence and protection
so beautiful
The three people she lost were her two grandparents and her uncle
1 her father, 2 Charlie, 3 Chuck
I think this song is about her dad getting into the music industry. He's going to release an album and the theme is the sea. She's pointing out all the criticism she's received during her career, and hoping her dad doesn't go through the same thing.
You’re 100% right. I didn’t notice it until you brought it up. Thank you btw :)
Omg 😭😭
Thank you for that mention!
wow i didnt realize that. i was confused why shes talking about her criticisms in the beginning and then talked about her father on the chorus, i have failed to recognized that him fishing and sharks in the pacific could be his music career and the industry.
It’s actually about how she wished her passed away loved ones to feel more connected to her and her family but yes he is releasing music and has
lana's dad is beginning to release music, so i feel like this song is her asking of a higher power like "i've tried to be good, please just let me know you're here, and all i ask of you is to watch over my father while he chases his dreams." i feel like sharks in the pacific is a metaphor for chasing dreams. this is one of her most beautifully written songs, and definitely gives this album some breathing room, with it being a more optimistic track in the middle of quite a heavy part of the album
thank you for sharing this!
She started over with her singing career many times, with different stage names. When she came out as Lana, lots of people started talking about how she was different in looks to her old self, and implied she was a Hollywood creation. That’s why she is comparing herself to Frankenstein’s monster.
Beautiful review Mere, I love when you pause and dig deeper into every single line. Wish you all the best!
thank you so much for the love. that makes so much sense about that Frankenstein line.
I feel like the song is essentially a call for gods protection, acknowledgement for some consequences of going after what you desire and generally sending a blessing out to her family line.
What’s curious to me is that in 2021 before I ever heard this song I was at the beach walking around and along the path I saw three white butterflies chasing each other flying around the coastline. I videoed these butterflies and put the instrumental for NFR on the video. When I first heard Grandfather I got chills, it’s an incredible track and one of my favourites on the album.
wow! that isn't just coincidence, that's beautiful
this song didn’t hit me until i had three white butterflies land on me at a butterfly exhibit a few weeks ago. but they did, and when they did i instantly thought of lana. just wow, what a pretty song.
that wasn't by chance. those butterflies were a signal to you :)
Lana faced a lot of criticism about her authenticity when Born to Die came out. Critics and people were very unkind and basically insisted that indeed the industry repackaged her and created her persona.
Her father, Daddy Grant, indeed does go deep sea fishing lol.
I love this reaction, Granfather is my favorite track of the record, Lana is a genius and thanks for reacting and analyzing her music
thank you!
Lana, Tori, Jewel, Alanis, Fiona... love that you keep referencing these amazing artists. Love these reactions and look forward to more!
thank you!!
Another great reaction! I think "Grandfather..." just became my third favorite song on the album. The music industry is full of sharks. During her Visionary Award speech recently, she even said "When I released my first album 14 years ago, the waters were not quite as warm." Tori's "Indian Summer" also sprang to mind briefly. 😊 (You're wise not to take on clients from your viewers here)
thank you for this message and for your love for my channel. thank you for letting me know about the connection to her speech!
I love this song so much! Her father does fish and I think she worries about him a lot while he’s alone out at sea for exactly why you said. I love watching a reaction and gaining a deeper love and understanding for a song because some of the things you pick up on I never notice! Thank you!
thank you for watching!
Her dad is a fisherman and actually has his own debut album coming out soon called Lost at Sea 🌊
crazy!
Love this song. It's about her dad joining the music industry and what she faced as a newcomer. Best song ever ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤. Love your reactions
that's wild that he's going into music!
listening to this song is a spiritual experience.
yes it is
her dad actually is a fisherman :)
that's so wild to me
Holy shit. Thought I was the only one that heard Alanis Morisette on that part lol
I Think she means deep sea is the music industry.
Her father is recording an album with his own songs. For his first time.
Lana knows a lot about the dark side of the industry and the men behind. She was talking about it.
The meaning about the deap see I read on another channel and we were talking about every word and line about she is singing and what it could be.
That was very interesting for me after I was listening to this beautiful song a lot of times.
And now it makes sence.
For an example, Lana talked about to don't get every song she wants on her albums.
Thats the reason why there are a lot of "unreleased" great songs here on CZcams.
Sorry, my english is not the best.
Thank you for your great videos.
You look very good.
Stay as you are, you are such a lovely and kind person ♥️
don't make me cry!!! love all the info you shared so much!
@@mendwithmere Thank you very much. Sending big hugs to you!
It’s funny…her dad actually in reality went fishing for sharks, or at least Lana said so. There’s a live from when Blue Banisters dropped, and her father pops in, and Lana casually mentions he is getting ready to go fishing for sharks. She also plays “Don’t forget me” by Harry Nielsen in the beginning and quotes Paris, Texas…maybe she dropped some other clues I missed because that live was wild and deep and beautiful (just like Lana 😊). That was like 2 years ago it maybe even more, I was schocked…she already knew everything. She mentiones some of the personal stuff she is talking about in this album also. I also saw a video clip of her with her family on a little boat, like a family trip, it seemed as if they were out in the deep…I don’t know if any sharks were actually hurt though
i hope none were hurt. it's a wild hobby for sure! (if it even is a hobby)
Do you know if I can find this live anywhere? I know which one you are referring to because I saw some of it but I have no idea how to search for it.
@@katherineauber i think there are tons of channels that upload those by artist, but even then your best shot is the forum lanaboards, fans post about every single piece of info in the LDR universe. you might find the recording itself or at least someone discussing it with information.
Her voice is just something else I just adore her voice and singing along with her poetry it’s exquisite! 💖
it really is!
Damn this analysis was so beautiful you always do so much justice with her songs that they unfortunately rarely receive ppl think her lyrics are dramatic and silly and it does take some effort but her art is so beautiful and meaningful 😢😊
that's so crazy to me that people react that way. she is a true poet and her words are powerful. I feel it deeply. thank you for watching!
Just want to say, i love watching your Lana breakdown videos, you are the only person on CZcams that does exactly what I do alone in my apartment, usually at night - with headphones on and reading the lyrics. Taking the time to dissect ❤
I love that I have found so many people that do the same. I swear I'm always hearing lyrics in my head when people are talking and it makes me analyze them even more. Thank you so much for watching!
Me too! And if there’s a video, I do the same. Playing songs on a loop - I have to know what it all means!
Somewhere out there is a picture of her Grandmother's necklace with three white butterflies on it
2 years from now in 2021 I had a dream about 3 butterflies merging into one.
that's so beautiful
4:51 i love how you said that, if we don’t know dark, we don’t know light
I’m so glad you mentioned Alanis, cause I thought that too when first heard the song, but haven’t seeing anyone else noticing
it's totally alanis! i'm glad i caught it
I always cry listening to this one..
its so good
this song got me CRYINGGGG- everytime
i think the "regrettably also a white woman" line also is tongue in cheek, because to what degree can you really ~regret~ being a white woman? things we regret are things we had control over, right? lana is very intentional with her word choice so this part is very interesting to me. i just realized i feel that this line calls back to "i can't help but feel somewhat like my body marred my soul" from the title track.... she regrets the kind of body she's in because of the limitations and perceptions and boxes she can't escape
I think this is more about people called her racist, and because they don't believe her lyrics were autobiografical, as she couldn't have go thought all this sh1t because you know, you're a person with opportunities in life and from a wealthy family.
that's a really good point
the line probably has to do with the question for the culture (may 2020) and the scandal that followed it. but yeah, it's definitely not her literally regretting but just painting what the public thinks of her.
I just listened to this song and cried my eyes out for no discernible reason.
OMG! My favourite place's here
I'M really crying a thousand storms but you are like a umbrella.. I think I'm not alone at all. Please never change your smile made of sun. Greetings from Mexico
This song often brings me to tears. Happy tears though.
Its just really fun to see someone really get this song the way I do. Thank you for this!
Crítics were so bad with her during all her career, aways saying that she made a "character" for her songs (cause of course, people don't want to accept that someone famous, a white woman from a wealthy family, could go though these sad things in life as toxic relationships, traumas, problems with her mom, addictions, etc) and also said that she was a "manufactured" famous, and she used her family's money to make all her marketing and grow in the industry.
I'd love to see your reactions to Tropico and Ride, from more than 10 years ago, where she explained her life problems, and back them no one believed it was a biografy more than just a character o a fake persona. It's so deep, so sad, but also with a brushstroke of hope at the end. ❤
Mere, I'm in love with all your reactions and looking forward to purshase your t-shirt!!
thank you so much for watching and getting a t-shirt! I will definitely be reacting to her old songs. Thank you for supporting me, it means so much
Thank you for this! It's amazing❤️❤️
thank you for this Mere! ur such a amazing human hehe
Love your reviews and very happy you made one about this song as it’s my favourite on the album. Thank you!
Rewatching every single one of your Lana reactions just to say that you are amazing and I love you
youre brilliant. Thank you for allowing me to experience this music with you, it helps me and im sure plenty of others to feel understood and less alone.
ahh mere you never disappoint!! i got so excited to see this video, this is one of my favs on this new album! cant wait for more
For me she is the best and never disappoint.
I was very exciting like you.
I love it to see how she is listening to these great song and tries to feel the deep meaning and soul of Lana. That's not easy.
And I love this song ❤
thank you! I'm so glad you all enjoy them!
This song always makes me emotional. It's soooooo pure and even though it is about Lana herself and her road to success and obstacles she had to overcome, caused by hate, it can also be seen as a beacon of hope to people who feel the same, like they are not seen and valued for their full capacity and intention. It hits extremely deep, especially with the Riopy piano sample. This is my favorite song from the album, even though the album itself is, again, proof that Lana del Rey is one of the best artists of this generation. What a treasure she is.
I love these reactions. It makes me listen to Lana differently
Heyy thanks for the consistent reactions!!
Just to point out that Let the Light in is not there the LDR reaction playlist :)
Can't wait for the rest of the album and hopefully the other 8 albums too 😂
ooo good catch! I'll add it now!
Thanks for sharing Mere. Your wise words at the end of the song was what I really needed to hear 💛 You’re such a bright light, and I’m so thankful to have found your channel 🌟🌼🙂🫶
Maggie! That means so much. I'm trying to keep my outlook on life pretty simple and being a light is high on the list! Sending you love
I cry every time😢
Most underrated song on the album!
Thank you
When listening to this track I can’t help but feel that “Grandfather” is “God” and the song is basically saying “Father of my father (God) please be that all seeing eye that detects and warns my father of any negative plots and adverse schemes while he ventures out into a territory riddled with people living for the moment of smelling fresh blood although he may think of himself as a David in a land of goliaths. She’s asking God to protect her father because he was all she had when life broke her, made her feel useless, dirty, and ugly.
I believe this song is a plea of Lana to God saying Grandfather (God, Father of my Father) protect my Dad he’s all I have. And if he isn’t worth saving, God, you are my Father as well and I want you to do what a Father does and do anything to keep me happy… which for her, is keep her father Safe/Alive. Also sounds like a plea asking God to show her he still loves her and he won’t punish her by taking away the one she loves in a torturous manner
oh wow! thank you so much for sharing this!
@@mendwithmere you’re welcome! I love music/ reading/ understanding lyrics. Falling in love with your channel and your videos! I can tell you love what you do and I can relate to that
Described it so well ❤️🥰
thank you!
Oh great ♥️ Thank you very much ☺️
welcome :)
Lana's Dad does sail and loves to be on the water! He's often on the water off the coast of Florida, a state the Grants love. They love the sun, the warm weather, the water. Lana always says she chases the sun and loves when it's really hot. This is probably because they're all from the sweet north country of Lake Placid.
ooo thanks for letting me know!
Omg I literally thought of Morissette and Tori Amos with that one vocal too!!
wild! we are on the same page musically!
I would recommend listening to Honeymoon album, it’s dark but so so good
ooo i don't mind dark :)
my favorite 🤍
thank you!
The Grands next pleasee ❤
A lot of comments are mentioning her father getting into the music industry and that this song is about that but it's not. She opens the song with "three white butterflies", white butterflies represent loved ones who passed away finding peace and it's three of them referring to her grandfather, grandmother and uncle Dave who all passed away. Her dad is actually a fisherman and he does fish for sharks (obviously that's not ethically and morally acceptable for a lot of people which is another conversation) but she is asking her grandfather who passed away to look after her dad and keep him safe and protected while he's out in the open sea.
I think it shows how much she loves them both. so beautiful
We need another live mother
really?!!! ahhh i may have to
I WAS THINKING THE ALANIS SIMILARITY TOO!!!
wild!!
Rewatching to this I just realised that first she says "They think it took somebody else to make me beautiful.... like a big MAN behind de scenes..." and by the end she says "it took somebody else to make me beautiful, but they are wrong".
it's like, she is says it took someone to make her better, but not someone from the scene, maybe her father, god, grandfather her family.
The fact that when I was listening this the first time. I saw 3 white butterflies😮 & I live on Northern country, we still had some snow here and there. But yeah, 3 white butterflies, I pinched myself to make sure that I didn’t dream it. ❤
that was meant for you. so beautiful
One of the best songs of the album I ride my electric scooter and close my sees to it
Loved this reaction. And I'm here once again asking for The Grants reaction
hi! I did the grants during the live stream! I can repost and improve the sound quality since it wasn't too great during the live.
always first period x love u
love you!
you’re so mother’s for this
sending you love
It would be amazing if you did a little series where you react to Lana’s other albums and even her unreleased songs! She has so much music, and it’s a beautiful evolution when you listen in order.
I am definitely planning on reacting to more. I just need to figure out how I can do it and get it to you all faster.
13 beaches or white mustang please!!☺️
❤❤❤❤
please do The Grants too❤
Hey! I love you videos cause you always help me to understand Lana’s lyrics more deeply. If you have time, I would love for you to react to As Alone by Florist, I know you’ve probably never heard their name before but I promise it’s worth it! Truly outstanding writing skills!
thank you for watching and yes, I'll add this to the list!
@@mendwithmere thank you do much, i would recommend to listen to it together with “I also Have Eyes”
Yeah, i see the Alanis Morrissete vibes.❤
yes!!
I'm pretty sure that the lyric is "sewing Frankenstein black dreams into my *songs" not "my soul"
What’s interesting is sharks tend to discover and hunt closer at surface rather than dive deep . That may mean something too if they aren’t found in deep deep waters
you need to do ultraviolence 😭
I definitely am. Just trying to figure out how to do it in a way that I can react to all the songs and get them to you all quicker.
Have you listened to Amanda Palmer’s album “There Will Be No Intermission?” I would LOVE for you to listen to and pick apart the song Machete.
IM SAT
I'm not sure what this means but i'll take it!
heavy alanis vibes in that one section
Big Alanis fan here and I agree. Love both these women- fantastic lyricists just gets you at the core 💔would love to know your fave alanis track- I saw her live back in Nov- one of the best days of my life!!
@@ogbaeb5826 this song in particular reminds me of the end of wake up and that would prob be one of my faves for sure
@@nothanks4367 yes! I know what you mean! 😊
yesssss
ahhh you saw her live??! that's amazing
Please consider doing Taylor & phoebe bridgers Nothing new!!😘
i just became super obsessed with phoebe so it's definitely coming!
@@mendwithmere eh honestly can't blame ya there😂😂. Could I throw a recommendation that is waaay out of left field but is viral & trending everywhere currently. Would love to see your take on a song about female rage! It's chinchilla, little girl gone. It really is hard hitting. Erm and also theres a song about mental health that went viral a while ago by Ren called Hi ren. THAT one is one of the most intense songs of recent times. Both ren & chinchilla are independent artists who have made music so amazing they've charted, garnered huge fan bases & taken over various platforms. They are both forces of nature. Sorry for the extras, but those 2 are really in need of a therapists take😁.
Please check the old albums of lana , NFR and ultraviolence have very deep lyrics and you'd be able to analise them
i def will!
Early on in Lana’s career, she was significantly criticized and critics claimed her to be an industry plant or a completely inauthentic artist manufactured by her record label.
But year after year she kept making art and fought off these critics. If you look up critic reviews of her album "Born To Die”, they’re actually just vile.
Do young and beautiful to oooo plzzzzzzzzzzzzz
such a good song!
"regreteblly a white woman" i think goes back to when she "appropriated" the Native American Indian community in her Ride music video when she wore the headdress
Alsoooo, reviewww “Gone” by Rosé from Balckpink 😭😭😭
will do!
10:12 Definitely Alanis Morissette ❤
Review “Exile” by Taylor !!! 😭😭😭
it's coming for sure!
i believe she is singing about the music industry and how you are never yourself, you are are what people believe of you. And her father is starting in this industry now, so he need protection of the midia (sharks)
Can you please react to Keshas 2 new songs?
I didn't even know she was putting out new music! Someone requested praying awhile back and I still need to do that one too!
One lyric is wrong in this I believe - God if you near me send me three white butterflies or a map to know your VISION impart on me your wisdom.
VISION NOT FISHING
He literally deep sea fishes. Not sure about the actual sharks part
that's wild!
a beautiful song, but some of the lyrics on the video you are watching are incorrect.
really?? shoot. I have to start double checking. thanks for letting me know
one of my favorites from the album! i really liked your optimist view on the white woman line, some people really misunderstood it
i truly don't think Lana would include something that isn't meant to make us think. thank you for the love!
i love your videos but please fix the volume of the music and your voice, cause i always need to volume you up and then volume down lana's songs
The lyrics are wrong.
i absolutely love love this song, but as someone who is not white, i hate the “regrettably also a white woman” lyric so much, it really threw me off, but other than that it’s a fantastic song
why tho...i thought shes just being sarcastic?
I can see where it could feel out of place
As a white woman myself I can tell you that she meant she understands her privilege
Sharks are sad animals, they cant listen to Lana and Taylor
