    In his post race interview WVA used the term 'a miscalculation' to describe what happened but was a bit evasive when asked if TJV has done enough pulling at the front. Lessons will be learned from that.

    Bizarre how often an early break lasts lately.
    I wonder how many more times this will happen. A (reasonably) large group that gets a nice lead and a peloton that starts chasing late. Although that was not the case here. Until the top of the climb, Trek's move seemed fine. But after that... I think it's nice to see, but frustrating for Van Aert to be 5 seconds short.

    • @Jaxck77

      It’s awesome. Breaks being successful is waaay more interesting, it extends the race out to much earlier than just the big sprints & climbs.

    Was watching the placement tracker in the route map on the Dauphine website. Did I see it correctly? Seemed to indicate that Froomey went off the front of the peloton to attempt to bridge the gap to leading group, and then get gathered in and dropped for a bit, before he rejoined the peloton and got a respectable finishing place? Can’t find any reports or footage to support it so wondering if maybe the gps data was flawed.

    Weird situation for JV. They are clearly the strongest team (not even close). So do they just go out and try to win every stage? As it unfolded, I really thought they could easily bring the break back until 20k to go (they have the horses in this race with CH, TB, CL, and SK, let alone WOUT). My take is they don’t want to seem greedy cause they could conceivably take every stage except TT. I think if this was a Grand Tour, they would simply hand the GC lead off until the final week but with only one week, do they just let it roll and become greedy villains? Especially with relegation. I guess it doesn’t matter since Ineos, Bahrain and UAE chose their own squad.

  • @robindelory7339
    @robindelory7339 Před rokem +2

    I mean, it's not that bad for JV actually. As the Belgian commentators said, it's not bad to lose the yellow jersey because that means they won't have to work tomorrow and the team can rest before the important stages. Besides, Van Aert can win it back during the TT even tho he doesn't care about yellow. He's there to train for the green jersey and he actually took even more points on his rivals. He's there to gain confidence and winning the bunch sprint is all that matters for him. So I don't think it was a bad day for them in the end 🤷🏼

    • @Jeroen_K
      @Jeroen_K Před rokem +3

      Well they allready have proven a lot of times they can combine that. As race leader they'd have to control a stage anyway, which takes the same type of squad. It simply looked like everybody in Jumbo apart from their leaders was too cooked to work after the hectic riding on the last climb. If their main target would have been the green jersey, they'd have lost 2 or 3 riders by that point, because that type of support rider wouldn't get over the climbs either. Also the damage had been done before that last climb - once JV had the chance to take over handed to them by the other teams, they had ran out of road.
      We're only having this conversation because Van Aert is the rare type of rider you can bring to a Dauphine (or Paris Nice to a lesser extent) and have win the non-mountain stages. Normally you'd allways bring a climbers squad. He's allways going to be in a team with mixed goals and with less other teams around willing to work.

    I think Jumbo didn't want to pace for WVA. They have to save their riders for Primoz. Today who had to work were the Ineos riders for Ethan Hayter and obviously, with only one team pacing, it's not enough. As someone who wants Uno-X to take off and get a wildcard for the Tour, I don't like TotalEnergies' victories, but this one was an exception. I liked to see something different and a 2nd place for an Uno-X rider it's always good news.
