I've always known how hammers fell down. So, one day, I hit them.
I can imagine this being a bit of a nightmare to map, taking a 3d map for a 2d-rendered game that has 2d hitboxes. I've never really worked on the model/collider modding aspect of the game, I've always just done the programming/coding part. The only thing I'm really good at, tbh.

You could actually take this map and separate parts of it to separate meshes and add custom LOD setup to them.
And i don't think you need to see the whole course all the time. You can create volumes that loads in the parts based on were you are.
The way that has to be done i guess is not just horizontally, but also vertically. So when you fall off you would still have the areas you could land on loaded. But The parts that is still above the player somewere far away don't have to be loaded...
For something like this game it can't be easy to do this stuff, but if you could i bet it will help on performance a lot
