Celebrating 40 Years of NDI

Since opening it's doors in 1983, NDI has supported democratic development in more than 150 countries, working with local citizens to help democracy grow from within. The Institute has pioneered work in six main areas - political parties, democratic governance, citizen participation, elections, gender, women and democracy, leadership, and democracy and technology.
While there are more democracies in the world today than there were 40 years ago, many countries continue to struggle to create and sustain democratic institutions that provide representative and accountable government. NDI continues to assist the efforts of people around the world who are working to promote political reform and make democracy deliver.
