    I have a Texas Instruments calculator and I have battery acid and corrosion problems and just by learning these things and not trying them out yet made me click the subscribe button.

      Good news Billy... We all have a lot to learn!! :-) I don't get everything right, but you can learn by my mistakes too!! :-)

    Awww, the rowing computer takes me back all the way to elementary and early high school ^^. Nice that you've managed to fix it :)

      Hahahaha, I wish, no, but Zagreb has a bunch of rowing clubs too! :) Longest boat I've been in was a 4-man though. Great sport, loved the counterpoints of the serenity of the water you feel when you move the row flat over it, and the muscles burning when you're pushing them through the water :D

    Thanks for video! I'm trying to revive a nice Grundig radio. Battery disaster. Cleaned contacts and I have a dead short on one of the boards. One IC has white film on it. I'm gonna remove it and see if the short is resolved. Any ideas, Professor?

      Get your magnifying 🔎 glass out, check the tracks, the contacts and look between the pins for corrosion. Use alcahol and vinegar to clean then add oil to protect..

    What is the "pink neutralising solution"?

  • @DesmondsDonders

    I prefer contact cleaner to WD40. I once saw a simulator destroyed when a tech sprayed the wrong one on a large interface board at the back of a rack.

      Interesting... I know the contact cleaner, I should buy a can one day. Have a wonderful weekend Dave!

    The right way, the wrong way, and Howard's way! Choose at your own risk:)

      Hahah... It worked! My neighbour is happy :-) The strange thing, some batteries are alkaline, some are acid, so you can take your pick on what you use to clean / neutralise with. I'm just happy I fixed this up for him :-) Have a great weekend David!

      David :-). Howard’s way! ... wasn’t that some hi-brow sailing soap opera on tv?

    ‘Super Heavy Duty’ batteries generally come in ten packs for a pound. False economy if you ask me (and not great for the environment).

    • @DubiousEngineering
      @DubiousEngineering  Před 4 lety +1

      ... far better to go for a good quality make... perhaps one with a copper top or one that is always ready ... forget these cheap batteries - you get what you pay for :-)

      Poundland battery’s dont last long and tend to leak. Well done Howard - better to fix and prolong rather than waste and skip.

      I’ve been tinkering with lead acid car batteries - trying to refurbish them. I’m getting mixed results... using various methods and revitalising chemicals. It’s been fun!
