It is a story of a man finally admitting he needs to be redeemed and is totally unable to redeem himself! It's a brutal film, but one with a moral centre!

A great movie. It had such a limited release in the UK we had to grab a midnight show in Kensington High st in 1992 on the night the clocks went back. Everyone in the cinema has sought the film out and the atmosphere was quite different to any other movie. The film was brutal at the time, more so when it had the original Schooly D Signifying Rapper song in there- I was so disappointed when it was removed for the home release. They don’t make films like this anymore- which is ironic considering the very moral nature of the plot. Keitel was brave to have made it- it could have ruined him if the film came across as pure exploitation. Part of a clutch of 90s films that really pushed the edges of cinema- along with Reservoir Dogs, Henry Portrait of a Serial Killer and Man Bites Dog.

One of the best movies of the 90s. Also the most unsettling. Harvey Keitel gave his best performance.

The film featuring Harvey Keitel's junk. I really needed to see that.

But it doesn't have Nicolas Cage shooting a dead guy because his soul was still dancing.

The scene in the church where Keitel breaks down in front of a vision of Jesus Christ, is one of my favourite and most powerful scenes I've seen in a film ever.
