Watching King of New York and Bad Lieutenant as double feature is a must 🤘
It's not a must. Stop.
yeah!
Watch this the other day, a was blown away how good it is!
Talks about Giancarlo Esposito but neglects to mention Steve Buscemi is standing right behind him 😆
That's all he does! Buscemi's character has little lines and things to do in the movie. SB himself said he was cast because Ferrara wanted another white guy hanging out with Walken's character.
Amazing film
1990... the Year of the Gangster film, and the beginning of the Gangster Film Decade:
Goodfellas (1990) d. Martin Scorsese
The Godfather Part III (1990) d. Francis Ford Coppola
Miller's Crossing (1990) d. Coen Brothers
The King of New York (1990) d. Abel Ferrara
State of Grace (1990) d. Phil Joanou
Men of Respect (1990) d. William Reilly
The Grifters (1990) d. Stephen Frears
The Freshman (1990) d. Andrew Bergman
Dick Tracy (1990) d. Warren Beatty
The Krays (1990) d. Peter Medak
Boiling Point (1990) d. Takeshi Kitano
Bullet in the Head (1990) d. John Woo
Gotta say, like Hitchcock preparing his cast for a new decade of violence by purposely shooting PYSCHO from September to December of 1959, Hollywood spent the latter half of 1989 having films made to usher in the most potent decade of violence on screen ever! Keep in mind that this country was barely getting over the horrors of The Vietnam War and reminded viewers as much through films and TV during the 1980's. I was just heading into my last childhood years when 1990 came around. Boy, was the film industry ready to corrupt my teenage mind....🤣🇵🇷🇺🇸📽🗽🦂😎
Classics!
Classic
I didn't love King of New York when I first watched it, I think I shall have to give this another watch!
I saw it for the first time last night. I was so underwhelmed. Showy performances but - meh. I didn't really like it.
Did you rewatch? I found it jarring and unusual and full of very intentionally mixed tones... I think it was pretty symphonic, and while I didn't feel enraptured as I watched it, it had this weird almost dreamy aura which sort of haunted me for a while afterwards.
@@sepiarain Yeah, a few months ago. I liked it a bit more upon a re-watch but it still didn't fully grab me. I've also grown accustomed to Abel Ferrara's style and I really dug the dreamy, almost drug induced hypnotic atmosphere and cinematography. And whilst not all of it worked, I respect the film for going in a unique direction. Especially for a genre that's covered a lot of ground.
@@freddybeer no one asked
@@christianletellier8676 - Oh silly me. I thought this was the comment section, where people are meant to give their opinions! I'd heard so much about this movie. It just failed on every level for me. And I'm a huge Walken fan. Abel Farrara's masterpiece is Dangerous Game.
This movie is available free on you tube
Best lines in bad lieutenant with harvey k , u need a light , where is the lighter , oh there's the lighter , you have a light , i need a light , shit my cigarette is lit.
Nah, the BEST lines, which apparently Keitel ad-libbed, were when he pulled the two girls over coming back from The Kit Kat Club. And YOU KNOW what those lines were, so I'm not gonna repeat them here, lol. Turns out, he improvised the WHOLE scene, after INSISTING that the girl driving the car be in the movie. The teenager was not even an actress, she was the real-life babysitter of Keitel's 5 year old daughter, Stella, who was also in the movie. How's THAT for a bit of trivia?
Frank White is what Nick would have become...if he hadn't played Russian roulette one too many times
What's in the Cup ? Root Beer ! You want some ? There's certain things I just don't do ! .. Frank White was the best
Ahead of its time. Look at all the people on fentanyl. It's not outsiders ringing the cash register
Honestly, don't understand what people see in this movie.
Has Mark actually rewatched this recently? All I saw was bits of pieces from other movies done worse and Walken seeming uncomfortable in his skin. It wasn't very pronounced but it was there. Sure, I liked it when it came out but we were all young and impressionable once. This movie just does not stand the test of time.
I remember Walken himself once saying he didn't think he got his performance right in the film.
This films a classic. End of.
I didn't like it either. Cool to spot all the future stars in it but I just didn't care for it at all.
lies.
Just watched this movie. Didn't like it although it had 2 or 3 great scenes. The rest was schlock and over the top.
this movie was kinda trash, funny at times, but pretty trash
A very poor, mess of a movie! Victor Argo is terrible and one death scene is comical
bullshit, bullshit, bullshit.
