Problem overall fuel efficiency me aati h.. aap cruise 80-90 me karoge, aap city me khali roads pe aram se chalaoge tab tak fuel economy achi rahegi, par jese hi aap thodi power doge itni drastically average girti h ki overall FE kharab hojati h.. toh kabhi turbo engines se expectation hi na rakhe ki bht achi FE milegi. Agar apki running zyada h aur apko zyada fuel nahi kharch karna h to NA engine ki taraf jaye, ya fir seedha suzuki ki gadi lele.. kyuki bas wahi ek brand h jise kese bhi chala lo wo kam FE deti hi nahi.. but you know the compromises.. Also since govt is mixing ethanol in the fuel, the FE will drop anyway.. Engine chote aur boring hote rahege. like tata's 1.2 3 cyl. So NA engines bht zyada time tak nhi ayege..agar aaj ek achi 4 cyl engine car available to lelo..BS7 ke baad sab gadiyao ki lagne wali h

    Hey Vikas,
I own i20 N-Line manual. In the beginning I couldn't extract a good mileage. Then I contacted a popular tuners. He told me to run the engine in higher RPMs as to bring more air into engine and avoid lag. He said - GDI engines accumulates carbon deposits on spark plugs and injectors if it runs below certain RPMs as the fuel are improperly burnt.
Since my drive is majorly on highways, I maintain 80-90kmph speed at 2.7-2.9k RPMs (4th gear). This gives me more mileage than 90kmph in 6th gear.
Indeed this N-Line manual is fun to drive

The actual reason for low efficiency in Turbos was beautifully explained by Surgieus (Autocar), that is, these engines are prone to knocking at suddenly high throttle inputs. To minimise that, the ECU increases the fuel input to cool the mixture, which decreases the efficiency. Different turbo engines have different cutoff RPMs for the turbo charger to kick-in, VW 1.0 TSI - around 1750, 1.5 TSI - around 1500, etc. So, it may not be generic 1500 RPMs for all.

  • @njugal

Sonet has 20 to 25 percent mileage error in MID. If it shows 18 kmpl, then it’s actually fuel efficiency would be 14 kmpl. I have tested many times on my Sonet diesel by tank to tank method, every time result was same. It has good highway efficiency, but very bad city mileage. This is my almost 4 years of user experience.

    • @ICN
      @ICN  Před 5 dny +2

@ICN I have sonet 1L turbo petrol automatic and in petrol too it's the same case. The MID has big error which renders it completely useless. And the city mileage is dismal mostly because of the huge turbo lag. May be the car you got there in the video is new. Once it's couple of years old the lag increases which results in less mileage

You'll get good efficiency to performance ratio only if you're in the turbo range of a turbo engine.. I've heard Citroen turbo kicks in just around 1800-2000 rpm...so could you explain how driving at the rpm range that you specified(way lower than a citroen engine's turbo range) will give good efficiency..? Rather he should drive at the beginning range where turbo has kicked in and running, just not too much beyond it...

I live in Himachal Pradesh and own a Tata Altroz iTurbo 2021-Model. Everyone criticized me for buying a Turbo car in Hills. But, I am happy with my car. I easily extract a mileage of 16-18 Kmpl in roads of Himachal Pradesh even under load. In the Highways of Plains, I get 20 Kmpl. I experienced best thing of my car when i drive it to Spiti where average elevation of landscape is 4200 m and NA cars feel sufffocated. But a Turbo car doesn't. The only downside I felt in this cold climate is that Turbo cars need a good amount of time to warm up and smoothness of drive depends on that.

However the moment the enthusiast in you wakes and you decide to hit that gas for extra power, it can return as low as 11 kmpl. Even in cities if you drive with light foot, 14-15 kmpl can be returned. 1500 rpm at cities and 2100 rpm at highways adviced for the best fuel efficiency.

The claimed "city mileage" on YT videos doesn't factor in which city they're driving. That changes the dynamics by quite a lot.

Why would you buy a turbo for light footed mileage extracting???
Mileage chahiye toh NA lo aur aaram se chalao. B2B traffic mein sabhi turbos 10 kmpl dete hain

That’s because only turbo gives you both options - to extract great fuel efficiency and power whenever you wish.

The word 'sheher' is subjective and can be misleading. I live in a 'sheher' called Banglore. I own a 1L turbo charged Venue, the same as sonet is. From my house to my office, I barely see the car go to the fourth gear, if I am lucky. I am a pretty mild mannered car driver. Even so, I rarely get more than 9-10 kpl. So 14 kpl in a 'sheher', with AC set to 20 degrees in a hot weather? Take it with a pinch of salt.

turbo are reliable but alot of if and but ,,,, meanwhile NA engine always reliable

KIA is for automatic lovers. They refuse to offer Sonet top trims in Manual transmission. Only in lower trims you get manual transmission with an under-powered 1.2L NA engine. Sadly you miss all goodie features on lower trims. You only get sunroof as premium feature on lower trims. For a car this size it should offer 1.5L NA engine with Manual transmission on higher trims with all other features of GTX sans ADAS.
Not everyone is a driving enthusiast & need a powerful turbo engine. A 1.5L NA engine preferably in manual transmission for keeping the cost down is good enough for Sonet.
This is why KIA always sell around 5-6k units of Sonet each month & will remain in 5th position in this segment. Seltos also suffers from lower sales in its segment due to lack of manual transmission on top trims.

Turbos with low capacity engines suck in b-to-b city traffic. Not for city drive.

Turbo engines are costlier, give less fuel economy, need more maintenance...then why the heck customer should buy them...the car companies are only gainers in this situation. If turbo blows out some day, you need to bear high repair costs... I think if we have to drive within limits all time, which we are obliged to as per law, no need to buy turbo engine. NA are the way till their dead end comes.

Sensible. Turbo are for driving enthusiast with much lower service life than NA engines but companies are pushing these 'coz of higher maintenance cost they can charge.
