50cc GY6 starting and then dying.

  • First start gassed it a couple times then hit the starter, second time had to gas it again and then played with the throttle to keep it running a little longer and then it died while throttle was approximately 2/3 open. Revs went to 5-6 grand and then dropped to around 2500 when it just died.
The stator wasn't connected at this time.

It's because of the music. 😆
Spray some start spray directly ON the intake and the vaccum-hoses. Does the engine rush, then you have a leak.
Very old post, but some may still see it.

Make sure your compression is good from 100 psi to 150 is pretty good. Give it a valve adjustment 003 I Intake and 004 exhaust. After you find out compression is good. Make sure you're Muffler bolts are tight, make sure it no air leak in lines. Also have a decent air filter for it can suck in air properly. If that good. Turn you're air mixture screw left to stop the engine from running. If it does not cut off in 1 to 3 minutes. You need a better quality carburetor maybe . But if it cut off give your carburetor one full right turn with the air mixture strew or you can turn it 2 full turns. That a safe air mixture place for gy6 engine. After that play with the gas idle screw. Make sure the idle does not sounf crazy loud. It much sound medium loud and smooth . I recommend you to push the gas idle screw Midway it best. For your RPMs want be going up to crazy. You want 1000 rpms on idle, or like 1,500 and 2,000 for very cold weather.
Also check your starter relay, electric starter, Bandit, rectifier, and cdi, also check if any electric wiring came out.
Sounds like your carburetor is Now default and it's not tuning up right. You mostly are getting to much gas. Try all my steps when you get the time... I know it's a headache. I been in your shoes many times. But patience is key. If the engine still healthy she going run again.

There are meny things who can go wrong! Try from and end-check for spark- leaks in the tubes for Petcock valve, or the petcock, is noot opening properly, so the carb rans out of fuel, after high idling.
The CDI box is also a common problem. I had the same problem with
my 2 stroke scooter! I changed the electric choker with a litle manuel choke, and it start`s in first time now... It cost`s me 12 dollars.......

This works as long as you have 4 arms and hands. 1 to press the fuel pump like he did, 1 to turn throttle, 1 to steer with and then 1 to call ambulance to put humpty back together again 😂

Make sure there isnt an intake leak. The high amount of time it takes to die down sounds like extra air finding it's way in to me. Also clean the pilot jet

I have Vespa lx 50 it starts right away and run for 10 to 15 minutes then die, I changed the petcock, carb and it did not fixed the problem until i changed the ignition coil. The Vespa is running good now and faster (from 35 mph to 40 mph) because the new ignition coil is unrestricted. The engine died when the old ignition coil get hot and after 5 minutes it cools down and starts again. I also checked the valve clearance 0.004 in intake and 0.006 in exhaust this is in accordance with the specification.

If you have tried all of these suggestions and still have the same problem do this: the vacuum fuel valve that lets the fuel pass into the carb is bad and its dripping fuel into the intake and causing the erratic idle. your welcome

Anyone know how to correct the problem. I have replaces the carb, replaced petcock piece, changed tubing, replaced oil. Should I try changing the whole intake filter unit ? What the heck is wrong. Its driving me crazy. Hopefully its not the engine itself, I am assuming not, as it starts and runs okay for 20-30 secs.

I had the same issue with my tao tao huregan 50cc. I adjusted the valves to .003 intake, and .004 exhaust. It wouldn't startup right away, but the next morning.. it started fine. Had to adjust the air intake skew on the rt side of the carb till it sounded right. Now I dont have any issues and runs good.
I have 26k miles on mine and still going strong. Good luck
