  • DJTAKTICA Has a problem with his scooter fuel system, so I explain how it works, then strip down K.A.R.R to show you how it all works. I say petcock too many times, look at vacuum leaks and fuel lines, worth a watch if you like engines of any kind.

    It will generally start right up and either work for a few minutes or bog every few seconds. It feels like fuel starvation but I don't understand where it would come from. I'm about to try the petcock/fuel cap test but I'm just guessing now. It came with a Giantco performance CDI which gives it more torque and the vario ring has been taken out by the previous owner. The main yet is a 98 (which sounds big), the idle jet a 34 and the slide needle says 137 with the stopper on the lowest setting.

  • @dazzelya
    @dazzelya Před 12 lety

    I brought a bottle of fuel additive (cleaner) when I picked it up and rode it home before freshening up the fuel. Over the past two weeks I did all the things above and although it works MUCH better than before. It still bogs out on me on occasion. At low speed it will bog down and turn off. At higher speeds it will bog for a second (as if I rapidly shut off the throttle) and either pick up and keep going for a little bit longer before doing it again. Or bog, stutter and come to a standstill.

  • @serpentza
    @serpentza  Před 12 lety +1

    Sounds like a problem with your carb, open up the bottom of the carb (the float bowl) and make sure it's clean, also bend the floats down a little so that they force the needle and seat to close sooner (I'll make a video for you if you can't figure it out).

    The ped thing is an safety thing . It stops gas from coming out of the tank if you crash and the motor stalls . It help so when you don't run the bike it turns the gas off to the carb so it doesn't flood it . If your was messed up you proubley could bypass it tank to carb .

    Hi, very informative videos. Maybe you can help me with my problem. I recently bought 50 cc moped (30km/h version for which you don't need a helmet) but I've had some problems. Firstly, I changed the oil, the plug, checked the wires, adjusted the valve clearances, checked fuel flow and took out the carb to clean it thoroughly. The problem: When I bought it the previous owner said it would cut off randomly but it was probably old fuel plus a dirty carb.

    Hi there, I just installed a new gy6 150cc motor on my scooter and it started fine but the engine seems to be missing while idling. I looked at my clear blue fuel line and from the fuel pump, it seems to be pulling in some air bubbles and I was wondering if that could cause the motor to sound like it's missing. I've already adjusted the idle screw but the motor still misses while idling. Could the air bubbles going into the carburetor be the cause?
    Thanks for any feedback!

    @serpentza Hi, my scooter leaks gasoline the only time it doesnt leak is when the gasoline is very low heres a demonstration (E | \ | | | | | | F) The "\" is where it stops leaking gasoline. A bout 22mms deep of gasoline in the tank. If I fill the gasoline all the way up then it will all leak out to "the non leakage point" over night. It is not a fast enough leak for me to watch it. It leaks out over the course of 10hours I'd say. Help please!

      If the carb float sticks someday it will flood everything with gas and perhaps ignite if the engine is hot enough. It's a fail-safe to prevent that.

    Hey Winston. What's your experience with EFI system on a motorbike. Do you guys sell bikes with EFI installed? Ever installed EFI on request? Have you ever just gotten a wideband oxygen sensor and weld a bung on the exhaust near the port, and hook it up to power with a small 3-digit digital voltmeter or multimeter on the dash of the bike? So you could have a much easier time tuning up the bike when the weather changes or something gets out of wack and it's failing to start, because it's too lean, too rich, or whatever. Anyway a full EFI system is available as DIY from plans or with a fully featured kit, just wanted to get your opinion and experience with these EFI type technologies on motorbikes. A huge step up from a mechanical, feisty, unreliable, failure prone carburetor.

    My scooter is a 150cc gy6
    The scooter will not start by itself, it will crank ans crank but will not start
    But if I take off the air box hose that hooks up to the Carb and spray some starter fluid in there then my scooter will start up no problem and after its warm it will start up without me having to spray in starter fluid
    Would you happen to know of why this is?
    Or a solution for it?

      Basically I have the same problem here. I checked the vacuum today and my scooter at idle fluctuates between 0 and 5 in Hg. I checked my wife's scooter and it fluctuates between 3 and 8 in Hg. Both scooters are identical 150 cc gy6 scooters. I changed the carb first since they come with electric choke for $25 (no shipping fee) at Amazon. I've also tried new spark plug, coil and ECM. I ordered an intake manifold and petcock but haven't received them yet. I'm hoping it's a cracked intake manifold. All the parts mentioned are available at Amazon and are pretty cheap. No, I don't work for Amazon! :-)

      Some cheap chinese mopeds have vacuum operated fuel switch (petcock). You might need to disconnect the vacum hose that goes from the petcock to the intake manifold from the latter and suck a bit on it (that will open the fuel switch) to let gas drain to the carburator, then connect it to the intake manifold again.
