  • This is the Revell Monogram 1960 Corvette finished in Testor's Chezoom Teal. This one is out of the box and is the older multi piece body. This one is a bit of a challenge to build but comes out great.

    That is a very nice build and has held up well. A beautiful color. Very interesting history about that particular model. Thanks for sharing.

    It looks awesome, I love the color. It's amazing how different the color looks when it's in the sun. I really like that you do that

    I have the original Riptide Corvette with vertical seat patterns and visors. Yours really pops in the sun! Clean Vette!

      Very cool. I have not had the AMT Ripetide kit. I did have one of the AMT 59 Corvettes.

    One additional note I would make about the drastic changes from 1958 to 1959: that was the transition from Harley Earl to Bill Mitchell. Harley Earl to be sure is automotive design icon. But I have to admit, as beautiful as many of his designs were, that was a lot of gingerbread to hang on the body of a two seat sports car. The '59 & '60s have a "less is more" simplicity that I really admire. As usual another great episode packed with information, and a beautiful rendering of a piece of automotive history. I would not have guessed it was the older multi-piece body kit!

      Thanks! The more I have read about Harley Earl is that he really like them big with lots of chrome!

      Yes. It’s a great kit. I have built three so far. A 58, one 59 and a 59 as a 60. Also have two more 59,s and have resin 61 and 62 bodies designed for that kit. Of course that was before Revell issued their own 62 kit that I also have!

    4.56 car probably scooted along pretty decent off the line if the tires would hold. But love that’s cascade green color. The blue on this one is really pretty too. This is a great looking old build. Looks lovely out in the sun. Really nice work on a kind of tough old kit. Always enjoy the history too. Thanks for sharing.

      Thanks! Can’t imagine driving one with 4:56 but the tires were kind of tall.

      @@TheMuscleCarModeler that would help. I have 4:56s in my 95 Impala and it’s not too bad at 70 mph in overdrive. However when the rear end gives up I’m certainly going to go back down a little. I’m not the same person I was when I installed those. 😂😂

    If you haven't seen it, there is a thread on the Jalopy Journal called "REAL Duntov 30-30..." I was on the street in the 70's and there were several of these cams lumping about hither and thither. Ford had its version, a solid lifter "LeMans" grind, that was ostensibly for a 340-horse 289 package (360 horse with Webers). And hey I have a Chezoom kit in the box. Are they worth a hundred bucks yet?

      @TheMuscleCarModeler  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Thanks. I’ll check it out. Seems a bit hard to find a full detail Chezoom kit. I finally found one myself. They are not expensive really but it seems I find lots of the simple kits.

      At this point I couldn't tell you, without digging it out, which mine is, and I was unaware that there were two versions. I guess I'll figger it out at some point! @@TheMuscleCarModeler

    That isn't a manual trans. That's a powerglide.

    • @TheMuscleCarModeler
      @TheMuscleCarModeler  Před 23 dny +1

      I don’t remember what I said in the video at this time but pulled my build out to look at it again. This kit is funny and since it is a bit of a custom, I’ll give it some slack. The interior is a stick set up with a clutch pedal. Trans is definitely a later automatic. The aluminum case powerglide has a square trans pan like this model but was used on some 62 cars with a 327 and all 1963 and later powerglides were this style. 58-62 powerglides were iron case and were completely different. So this kit does not have a correct powerglide for a 60 Corvette, but is definitely an automatic. The only other automatic that GM offered when this kit was issued that had a square pan is the 700R4 (that would bolt up to a Chevy Small block).
